mst3k4evur: Have you bought and read the book?? Entire CHAPTERS of The Last to Die are dedicated to the victims, especially the family of Frederick J. Nash, the police officer killed by Turpin. The author conducted extensive interviews with Nash's widow, children, brother, and fellow officers. There is no "coddling killers" here, which is apparent to anyone who has read The Last to Die, which has just been nominated for the Arthur Ellis Award. Check out the Crime Writers of Canada website.
Definitely a Canadian story, which would require Turpin to be played by a Canadian actor, as Turpin was Canadian. Samuel L. Jackson would be perfect as Lucas, almost has a slight resemblance. But this is a not a film for entertainment. It would be about educating people about the Canadian justice system of the last two men to be hanged at that time, and how the case was handled. Robert J. Hoshowsky did an excellent job on the research, and it was very visual in detail. Excellent work!
A big thank you to Robert J. Hoshowsky for writing this book, which I bought and read after seeing this video. Great book! I can't believe the last hangings in Canada were 45 YEARS AGO! And the last man hanged (Arthur Lucas, an American) was probably innocent. Let's see a feature film on this with Denzil Washington playing Lucas and Orlando Bloom playing Turpin, people!
My God, you really love glorifying and coddling killers. No wonder Homolka is free, and Bernardo and Olson both have parole dates. How about you think a little about the victims?
only 710 executed in a century? Canada has a rather peaceful history :-)
