  • I hope that Mark has learned the art of "juggling" enemies with the bike pump since this review was made. When you have multiple enemies, you can pump each enemy once, and then it is safe to move into a better position to finish pumping them until they explode. Mark kept dying in this review because he was only committing to one enemy at a time, which allowed other enemies to kill him.

  • @Pkmaxey Thats' because the 7800 uses the 2600's TIA chip for sound in 7800 games.. Yea, it was a bad move from Atari to do that.

  • I always thought did dug gave the health nuts fast food to make them phat

  • This is the 5th dig dug review i've watched from you today mark.

  • Can you play this with a 2600 controller or Genesis controller?

  • @passiveMenis Probably

  • @passiveMenis Yes and with a Sega Master System controller as well. :)

  • @deadlygroove1

    for both?

  • @passiveMenis The Atari 2600, Sega Genesis and the Sega Master System controllers all have the same plug so they all work on the 7800.

  • @deadlygroove1

I didn't know if the 2600 controller worked for this game because it only has one button

  • I have this game for my XBOX 360 i need to get it for my NES or 2600

  • classic game reviewers! please stop saying "back in the day" you keep reminding me of a time when everything was simpler, games were greater and had a charm that can never be matched today, and when Heavy Metal was pretty kick ass

  • I love how the Atari 7800 has stretched out graphics and this is my favorite version of Dig Dug.

  • you should put the 3ds in your intro.

  • @treebark4000 NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! ok?

  • i don't if the atari had two buttons to pump and kill the enemies but i found a computer version made by nes cafe and its pretty nice plus you have both z and x buttons to kil enemies so its easier

  • best game ever? YES NO DOUBT

  • I thought the main character's name was Taizo Hori.

  • @Fuji086 the main characters name is Taizo IWATANI not hori

  • @treatyoself2tee You're probably thinking of Pac Man creater Tōru Iwatani.

  • Holy crap. Dig Dug is an amazing game. If you don't like it then you don't appreciate games. Sorry, but it's true. Imagine if you were a miner as a living, and these creatures were trying to kill you. Wouldn't you try to stop them? It's the epic story of trying to save your own skin for a living. That's why we should play more games like this.

  • hard to see dig dug as a hero. looks more like a ruthless killer to me

  • I used to play this all the tie on my gameboy emulator

  • Good Mark your video are AWESOME I even download them so I can watch them on my computer over and over again. They are very entertaining and informative at the same time

  • Listen to both this version and the 2600 version. They sound the same......

  • What is Dig dug actually digging for?.

  • go dig dude :D

  • i love this song

  • Dick Duck

  • @Lufttygger306 lol!

  • I think it is not a bike pump but a huge penis. He sodomizes the monsters and fills them with semen until they pop.

  • @bigpoopie69 Sick minded pervert.

  • @wiiDSplayer4life its only a joke....

  • Dig Dug kills enemies with a bike pump... that's freakin' hardcore!

  • I dig Dig Dug, I've always dug Dig Dug, but do I dig him because I dug him, or did I not dig him and only now ,truly dig, Dig Dug... Wh-...What did I just say?

  • Imagine if Dig Dug never existed, and someone created it for the next gen consoles. 100% sure it would be rated M for mature xD Imagine how gory it would be to explode those enemies, and crushing them with a boulder. Damn!

  • dig dug rules

  • man, all my friends are graphics whore, wait until i show em contra and dig dug XD

  • my dad said that when he was a kid when him and his mom would go shoping she would give him change to go play froger.

  • dig dug and mr driller ftw!!

  • ive been playing this since i was about 5ish

  • watch my reviews and tell me what you think

  • Funny a later PS1/Arcade/Dreamcast game called "Mr. Driller" more or less revealed Dig Dug's real name (Taizou Hori) and he had a kid (Susumu Hori/Mr. Driller).

  • what's the name of the theme song? ;)

  • hey you mispelled dig dug in the description, you wrote dig dig:o

  • i owe u cause u inspirered me to get Donkey kong for GBC

  • Lol "That may Seem cowardly but its not- DigDug just shows no mercy"

  • tell me about it i am a pro on dig dug don't beleve me i got to level 26 and secret level 99 and 100 and secret level 1000 on gba as a part of namco musuem

  • @bigpoopie69 Blashphemy!!! Did Dug kills his enemies with a bike pump. That's way cooler than... what, jumping on them.

(by the way, i'm just joking around, they're both awesome)

  • Wicked Review man. I really enjoy your Videos.

  • awsome dug

  • i need to pick up an atari......are 2600 controllers compatible w/ the 7800 console?

  • yes, 2600 controllers as well as Sega Genesis and Colecovision controllers. just make sure you only need one button for the 7800 version.

  • Yes, but some 7800 games require 2 buttons (2600 controllers only have 1). Most need only one though.

  • dig dugs awsome im 14 and i love this

  • Glad to see classic games are still being appreciated by a new generation. You have good taste. :)

  • im 13 and im trying to convince my mom to get a 7800. she wants a faulty ass 5200 because thats what she grew up with.

  • Sweet, I hope u get the 7800.

  • @finnthefilmmaker me too! :3

  • @finnthefilmmaker WELL IM THIRTEEN AND I LOVE THIS!!! HA!!!! AND IVE BEEN THIRTEEN FOR 2 MONTHS

  • hey they have namco games for the ps3 on the psn store

  • I always just kinda walk into the enemy while rapidly tapping the button... it seems to die faster that way.

  • the 7800 dig dug's sound is EXACTLY the same as the 2600... wow it has only 1 bad thing!

  • I love the really cheery music, since it's such a contrast to the extreme violence going on.

  • thats the point

  • I guessed as much.

  • srry i red it rong i thot it sed but its such a contrast........

    my bad

  • Hmm... the sounds and music sounds like atari 2600 sounds

  • that's because it is

  • Not exactly :D

7800 PRO SYSTEM, dang I love that thing. And this game! But my own module seems to be broken...can't play it anymore =(

  • Dosent matter, I love dig dug

  • @moviemovies1

Although because this is the 7800 version the graphics are better.

  • what version of digdug did u play did u mean u have to pump and let go and attack the other enemy when twos after you and CGRHD player tries to suck worse so we can see what is like to die he really covers all aspects of the game and in some ways better than AVGN

  • anything the AVGN does is mean to be comedy sometimes he lies about things ( like the 5200 atari controller) Classic Game Room Is real reviews

  • Translation: DUUR HUUR DUUR DUUR HUURR DURDURRR

  • Oh God, thank you for telling us this. You are a fucking life saver. I mean, I almost watched this review completely ignorant of his awful and unforgivable mistakes.

  • Heh the first time I played Dig Dig was on the Microsoft Windows version... Pole Position and Pac Man too (if you don't count Snapper for Acorn Electron which is probably the first video game I ever played)

  • My first memory of Dig Dug was on an Arcade Classics floppy disk my neighbors gave me. Along with Pac-Man, this is one of the greatest arcade classics ever.

  • Wow, this is the first 7800 game I've heard that sounds pretty darn good compared to the original. :D

  • There was also Dig Dug II, which I played on the NES.

  • awesome

  • im so buying this

  • Digdug doesent show mercy..pump killing forever

  • So...the audio is exactly the same on the 7800 port as the 2600 port on this title, too? ARG!! Thanks for your videos!

  • i used to have dig dug for one of those plug in and play things

  • The graphics were a great improvement, but the sound is identical to the 2600 version...

  • ah shit this brings me good memories

  • Actually the main character's name is Taizo Hori. He was married to Toby "Kissy" Masuyo from Baraduke and their son Susumu Hori is the main character from Mr. Driller. I'm not making this up, look it up on Wikipedia if you don't believe me.

  • I was just playing it in the arcade today :-)

  • Awesome video.

  • 2:30 - - For those interested--the 'treat' as it's referred to in the middle does not appear at random. When you cause two rocks to drop the veggies appear.

  • I love Dig Dug, especially the sound effects.

  • Yeah their awsome :)

  • for some reasons I think youre reviews are very underated

  • Its because they are.

  • heck so much work and they have 6000 subscribers

  • Thats not nearly enough, everybody needs to see these reviews. lol

  • yeah these are freaking nice sometimes i just grab a snack and watch classic gameroom pure entertainment especially the ones where dave throws some insane jokes and i almost throw my food all over the place..xD

  • perhaps some dudes get all depressed remembering themselves in the 80´s playing those nice games, hence the underating

  • Played on the GBA for the first time, I'm not a big fan of this game, but I still played it a lot, it's good but I'm just the kind of guy who can play games like this and appreciate it, but I like games that don't have the main point of them to get a super high score.

  • ahh Dig Dug, a timeless classic.

i will say that the 7800 version of course is better than the 2600 version... however, my memory brings to mind the best port of this arcade classic belonging to the Commodore 64.

thanks for posting Mark, great review!

  • Never played this. I have an NES rom of this though i am sure. Time to go play this on MAME too. Looks fun.

  • Dig Dug was an awesome game, and it would eventually spawn an equally awesome spin-off. And that spin-off was....MR. DRILLER!

  • The 7800 uses the same tia chip sound hardware as the 2600.Thats why sounds aren't so good on the 7800 on most games. The games that do sound good,Ballblazer for example, have amazing sound because there's a pokey chip IN the cart itself, which is a superior chip, than the 2600 uses.

  • cool

  • the only thing i dont like is the fact that all the sounds are recycled from the 2600 version

  • I like the music ported but the SFX should have been beefed up.

  • the only thing i dont like is the fact that all the sounds are recycled from the 2600 version

  • lol, kinda violent to see you inflating the enemies XD

  • lol thats how dig dug rolls

  • I didn't even know Dig Dug existed until after the legendary Game Room review in 1999. This game is awesome.

  • I remember Dig Dug, that was a great game. Although I never played it on the Atari, there was an NES port also, which is what I grew up on.
