@cameron20101000 why its the only way to play doom on the go besides its pretty much the same as the jaguar doom except with lower resolution and different music
even though its not the best port ever but if you dont want to stop playing doom then this is for you
Doom 2 on GBA and X360 turned awesome and perfect, because it compares the PC version with the archviles.
It's just Doom 1 on GBA is just car-bitch, music sounds like 8-bit,some levels got a different map, i mean it's a okay port, just a few problems or shitty things.
3.the icon of sin only speaks when he feels like it
ALL 90s ports (except snes) used the levels from the jaguar. the PSX remade the jaguar levels and used the ultimate doom which it include thy flesh consume
the atari jaguar port was the 1st doom port that uses the console levels and its actually done by ID SOFTWARE
@cameron20101000 the jaguar port is a pretty damn good port too ya know but the only flaws is when they redid the levels and use less textures and architecture and take out the bosses (which it includes the cyberdemon and spidermastermind)
despites the green blood, missing bosses, reduced size levels & secrets, horrible quality music etc,,, wich also had been ordered in the wrong levels.
it,s still better then the snes version becouse it has all the fun, unlike the snes version,at the other hand i just wish they had ported and UPGRADED the snes version to the gba,it would,ve been so obviouse that way, then porting it from the jaguar since the jaguar was NOT a nintendo console.
the snes has most levels, secrets etc in complete form!!!
This port was fucking atrocious. Mixed up music and only like 15 levels... It was obvious it was such a lazy port. Doom 2 was an awesome port. Had all the levels and music
It has all 24 levels from the Jaguar version. The version with the least is 32x Doom with 17 levels. I don't know why the music was on the wrong levels though. Basically they took Jaguar Doom, shrunk it down to 160x120 resolution, and added music.
Doom 2 was damn sweet. It used the Duke Nukem Advance engine instead of the Doom engine.
@SonicTehAwesomeFace because its not 3D capable like the saturn and no this not 16-bit graphics the only 16-bit doom was the snes port which is even more impressive
@killkenny5000 Not 3D capable? There was a demo of Resident Evil 2 for the GBA, which was never released, but it did show the true capabilities of the GBA. And yes, that utilized 3D polygons. Now THAT was impressive. There was also a not-as-impressive, but still good version of Super Monkey Ball. Again, this uses 3D polygons. Besides, Doom is technically a 2D game with the illusion of 3D by drawing lines on the screen in different sizes and positions.
@SonicTehAwesomeFace actually doom has 3D background with 2d characters and objects that either 1 sided or 8-sprites
and the resident evil 2 is actually a legend of zelda or pokemon map style so its not rly the actual game but you still get to kill zombies
if you look at medal of honor underground for GBA they tried to make it look like the PSX version but it turned out worst than wolfenstein 3D on snes and DOOM on 3DO
This is a surprisingly good port of the original DOOM. I play it near-religiously alongside the GBA version of DOOM II, which is even better. Yeah, this one has some minor framerate issues, but it's still worth playing.
@killkenny5000 Because the 3DS definitely doesn't have a convenient slider on the side that you could, I don't know, turn the 3D off or anything. How about doing research?
@killkenny5000 The 3DS doesn't need dual analog because the touchscreen can be used for aiming purposes, it has a camera and a mic, calling them Ps3 visuals is an exaggeration if Resistance and Uncharted are any indication, and the 3DS has a touchscreen too, just not one on the back which I imagine would be awkward. I think you're understanding the 3DS as well, I would consider Resistance Vita about on par, visually, to Resident Evil Revelations.
@killkenny5000 I'm still annoyed that Activision made that decision. They could've put it on the 3DS and actually have something good with the graphics, but no. God forbid they have something presentable, let's slap it on the system that's already obsolete.
@killkenny5000 ..... I meant Activision is putting Modern Warfare 3 on DS but not 3DS! You don't see why that's stupid? Even you have to acknowledge the 3DS is worlds beyond the DS in graphical power, as well as many other areas.
Nintendo didn't censor anything. It was the makers of this game. Nintendo hasn't forced anyone to censor anything since before Mortal Kombat II was released for the SNES. I can't stand that people still think it's Nintendo's fault.
Green blood means that the game can be sold to a younger audience. A younger audience which takes up a large part of the GBA's user base. Thus more copies sold. Duke Nukem Advance and Wolfenstein 3D for GBA has red blood, completely uncensored.
True... Even though what's funny is that Wolf is rated M and DNA is rated T... Possibly because the blood is a more muted orangy red? Of corse then DUke swears a lot, so maybe both really derserved an M...
@elbryan42 I think there may be a few M rated areas Nintendo still won't touch, though. Case in point, they might object to something like Duke Nukem Forever. For the most part, though, yeah, they don't really give a shit. They didn't object to Manhunt 2 going on Wii, anyway.
Why do people say this sucks compared to other versions? It's on the bloody Gameboy! I bought it purely because Doom is excellent and it's on the Gameboy!
I remember buying this and being amazed that I had Doom in a portable console. And I wasted untold hours playing this in multiplayer with friends back in high school :)
INCRedible for a freaking gameboy adv i gotta look for this i love doom its even superior to the 32x or snes ports looks like except music music ALL WRONG
gba doom is great but i got sick from the music even worse they reversed the music from each level, but those bleeping tunes atleast gives that retro spheer.

Apparently, GBA Doom 2 had a different development team.
That and even though there's not enough space on the cart for Doom 1 I'm a bit sad at the lack of cyberdemon and Thy Flesh Consumed. In fact...did any of the ports have Thy Flesh Consumed?
Hmm. I didn't mind that chapter much. I guess I can see why it got excluded from most other ports, due to space and that it probably wasn't out before the PSX and Saturn came out.
Nice of them to giveDOOM a try on the GBA. Do you think they'd make some form fo port for the Wii? I mean I know there's those homebrew ones.
I remember renting this back before I had my itouch. I always played it, and remember bringing a flashlight so I could see the screen (I had the original GBA model, not the SP). It still bothers me how off the music is. Listen to this version's "At Doom's Gate" and you'll see what I mean. It sounds like someone listened to it, stopped for two days, and tried to remember what it sounded like.
That's because this isn't the right music. This port has the music mismatched with the levels. The first level (E1M1) plays the second level's (E1M2) music, second level plays the third level's music etc.
I could never get into this version of the game with its green blood and magically disappearing bodies. Half of my love about DOOM was the gore. Anyways, considering this is for theGBA, its very impressive.
@GayBitchandFaggot This port is based on The Jaguar Port. THe Jaguar Ports music was on the Stats screen after every level, so I guess they implemented that just ingame :/
I think it's one of the most outstanding FPS ports ever. Besides a few level changes, it's pretty darn accurate. Though it's not perfect, as it could control smoother like the first GBA Doom and there are some minor glitches and programming oddities. But definitely a must buy for any FPS fan with a GBA. :)
Um, PSX isn't an emulator. ePSXe is an emulator that plays PSX games. PSX is the original acronym for Playstation before the smaller PSOne came out, and people started calling it PS1.
I NEVER use emulators for ANY of my videos. They're all on the real game systems.
I use to think the GBA was so impressive in 3d because it was 16 bit but turns out the GBA is actually 32 bit.Thats why this does not look like SNES graphics.I do wish they made a 16 bit handheld console though.
The reason for no Cyberdemon, Dis being Fortress of Mystery, and other changes is because this is simply the Jaguar version (the first port of Doom) running at 160x120 resolution (with disappearing bodies and added music). It's the source material, not the GBA.
Yeah, Doom 2 was made from scratch using the Duke Nukem Advance engine. That's why it turned out so awesome. I'd take a game made from scratch specially for a system than a lazy port or an emulated game.
@MonsieurRien I getting so fucking sick of people hating the port just because 2 enemies are missing, some levels missing\changed, or green blood. It's still gory, most ports were missing some levels, and this was ported from the Jaguar version, which had no bosses. The GBA port is still a great port(kickass 8-bit music remixes, great graphics when seen on the GBA screen, and you can play it anywhere)!
Rob, on the first level of Inferno (Hell Keep, i think that's what's it called). Is it possible to beat it with a pistol start?! I mean I can't find any weapons and they barley give you any ammo and also I played this level on the easiest difficulty and still have a hard time due to lack of shotgun, armor, and ammo. Also they really make you fight a lot of tough enemies with ur pistol...
Hey Elbryan42, how's the controls for this game? I plan to get a GBA with this, Doom 2, and Kingdom Hearts to play this while I'm on my breaks at work.
doom on GBA was shit but the doom 2 version was amazing it had every level, teh proper doom 2 end boss and all the other monsters. Bloody awsome game (for a handheld)
IMO, this fits with that the GBA has lightly similar 3d capabilities to the 32x with the tape of that 32x demo and the demos of the GBA's 3d abilities.
32x is probably lightly better, but we still see what could of been on 32x, a pre-Saturn.
@silenceofthehills actually, the 32x's monsters always faced forward, so they couldn't fight each other. However, in the GBA version, the monsters faced all 8 directions and fought each other, so the GBA is slightly more powerful than the 32x(DOOM wise).
Specs I think are around the same though. The sprites interchanging from angle to angle may not mean much but unfinished programming, regardless of which is more powerful, though cart and VRAM space may explain it. Then again, I think 32X had an equal or greater VRAM. Don't know.
To think about it, its something seen on megadrive/genesis/SNES games that have those rare moments of psuedo 3d (e.g. BG "spins" around by control), yet Doom for SNES and 32x doesn't use it.
you own elbran42 u are the best doom player ive seen in my life best duke nukem player best serious sam player best wolfenstien player like omg! i love alllll your vids u are wayyyy to underated u should be a STAR***** of youtube!!
Nope, the Gamecube has nothing to do with it. The Gameboy Player doesn't alter the games in any way.
The reason why the GBA plays it so well is because it's the Jaguar code (so basically the Jaguar game) running at 160x120 resolution. Lower res=smoother.
yea...when i looked for it for the gba..i found doom 1. there was only one copy of it all over town and i was able to get it. i beat it andi still have it...since im a major fan of doom like i said in the other one i posted. good vid btw :D
I liked the GBA version of it since it became a portable version of Doom. But I wasn't comfortable with the music in the wrong order (Doom II sorted that out) and I felt that it was a tad short especially with the last level being a secret level in the original Doom.
Despite all those problems it was still awesome that they released it on GBA.
Actually it is, strangely enough. The 32X version had missing levels and horrible music. The only part it one-upped the snes version was in the graphics.
first game I had on the GBA... Good memories.

@elbryan42 You see, he is a pussy that only plays COD and Halo. He doesn't know what it is like to play a REAL First Person shooter.

Apparently, GBA Doom 2 had a different development team.
That and even though there's not enough space on the cart for Doom 1 I'm a bit sad at the lack of cyberdemon and Thy Flesh Consumed. In fact...did any of the ports have Thy Flesh Consumed?
MightyKombat 1 year ago 3
The GBA port was based off of the Jaguar port, which came out before Ultimate Doom. The PSX, Saturn and XBox360 ports all have Thy Flesh Consumed.
elbryan42 1 year ago

@elbryan42 the jag port didnt have music... nice that this one has snes style music

Fulsam135 2 years ago
That's because this isn't the right music. This port has the music mismatched with the levels. The first level (E1M1) plays the second level's (E1M2) music, second level plays the third level's music etc.

i just got this game for the gba. how do u change weapons?
vocalist92 2 years ago
Hold open and press L or R. If you go to options it'll tell you.
elbryan42 2 years ago
I could never get into this version of the game with its green blood and magically disappearing bodies. Half of my love about DOOM was the gore. Anyways, considering this is for theGBA, its very impressive.
Yarkie 2 years ago
GBA's limitations .DOS DooM required at least 4 MByte of RAM. Now check the GBA's RAM ;)

I've emulated doom for the SNES and Doom 2 for the GBA and in all honesty I believe Doom in PC blows the console and handheld ports by a landslide
PoliticalFrustration 2 years ago
Best non-PC port of Doom is the Xbox 360... but fuck me, it is NOT an original port and is therefore null and void...

Toxin Refinery song in E1M2?
GayBitchandFaggot 2 years ago 2
In the GBA version the music is "shifted ahead" by one track: E1M1 has E1M2 music, E1M2 has E1M3 music, etc., up until E3M3.
You end up having to reach E1M9 if you want to hear At Doom's Gate =/ although it DOES provide an extra incentive to reach the secret level ^^
cl0vvntiem 2 years ago
@GayBitchandFaggot This port is based on The Jaguar Port. THe Jaguar Ports music was on the Stats screen after every level, so I guess they implemented that just ingame :/

what do you think of the doom 2 port for gba
virusinfection1 2 years ago
I think it's one of the most outstanding FPS ports ever. Besides a few level changes, it's pretty darn accurate. Though it's not perfect, as it could control smoother like the first GBA Doom and there are some minor glitches and programming oddities. But definitely a must buy for any FPS fan with a GBA. :)

what is a port? and a psx? whats that
ArmyBoy015 2 years ago
A Port is a game that can be played on another system/console/whatever
PSX is a Playstation emulator
reki107 2 years ago
Um, PSX isn't an emulator. ePSXe is an emulator that plays PSX games. PSX is the original acronym for Playstation before the smaller PSOne came out, and people started calling it PS1.
I NEVER use emulators for ANY of my videos. They're all on the real game systems.
elbryan42 2 years ago
I use to think the GBA was so impressive in 3d because it was 16 bit but turns out the GBA is actually 32 bit.Thats why this does not look like SNES graphics.I do wish they made a 16 bit handheld console though.
AndrewEpicWins 2 years ago
@AndrewEpicWins Yeah, and they should call it SNES On The Can!
doomster706 1 year ago
GBA version is just a piece of shit.
Tower of Babel features no Cyberdemon
And Dis turned into Fortress of Mystery.
That's FUCKING CRAP!!!!
MonsieurRien 2 years ago
It's Still Impressive For GBA.
Bam050196 2 years ago 10
The reason for no Cyberdemon, Dis being Fortress of Mystery, and other changes is because this is simply the Jaguar version (the first port of Doom) running at 160x120 resolution (with disappearing bodies and added music). It's the source material, not the GBA.
elbryan42 2 years ago
Yea You're right, well at least Doom 2 on GBA was More Accurate than Doom 1 on GBA.
Bam050196 2 years ago
Yeah, Doom 2 was made from scratch using the Duke Nukem Advance engine. That's why it turned out so awesome. I'd take a game made from scratch specially for a system than a lazy port or an emulated game.
elbryan42 2 years ago
I do totally agree, especially when it is screwing up key levels and characters.
MonsieurRien 2 years ago
@MonsieurRien I getting so fucking sick of people hating the port just because 2 enemies are missing, some levels missing\changed, or green blood. It's still gory, most ports were missing some levels, and this was ported from the Jaguar version, which had no bosses. The GBA port is still a great port(kickass 8-bit music remixes, great graphics when seen on the GBA screen, and you can play it anywhere)!
doomster706 1 year ago
Rob, on the first level of Inferno (Hell Keep, i think that's what's it called). Is it possible to beat it with a pistol start?! I mean I can't find any weapons and they barley give you any ammo and also I played this level on the easiest difficulty and still have a hard time due to lack of shotgun, armor, and ammo. Also they really make you fight a lot of tough enemies with ur pistol...

Hey Elbryan42, how's the controls for this game? I plan to get a GBA with this, Doom 2, and Kingdom Hearts to play this while I'm on my breaks at work.
JerichoSupporter 2 years ago
I think the controls are downright excellent. :)

What is actually surprising is that the Game Boy Advance can handle one of the best first person shooters, and have Death Match up to 4 players!

doom on GBA was shit but the doom 2 version was amazing it had every level, teh proper doom 2 end boss and all the other monsters. Bloody awsome game (for a handheld)

These musics all like mixed up now
Moneyman34a 2 years ago
Since they used the jaguar code on this doom did they do the same in doom 2 GBA?
cuber298 2 years ago
Nope. The port of Doom 2 was done by a different studio, Torus Games. They used the same engine they made for Duke Nukem Advance.
elbryan42 2 years ago
Actually, I think it's the 32X version it's based on. It's a spitting image with the resolution and x2 hud weapon sprites.
silenceofthehills 2 years ago
IMO, this fits with that the GBA has lightly similar 3d capabilities to the 32x with the tape of that 32x demo and the demos of the GBA's 3d abilities.
32x is probably lightly better, but we still see what could of been on 32x, a pre-Saturn.
silenceofthehills 2 years ago
@silenceofthehills actually, the 32x's monsters always faced forward, so they couldn't fight each other. However, in the GBA version, the monsters faced all 8 directions and fought each other, so the GBA is slightly more powerful than the 32x(DOOM wise).
doomster706 1 year ago
@doomster706
BG "spins" around by control), yet Doom for SNES and 32x doesn't use it.

you own elbran42 u are the best doom player ive seen in my life best duke nukem player best serious sam player best wolfenstien player like omg! i love alllll your vids u are wayyyy to underated u should be a STAR***** of youtube!!

i'm surprised that the GBA can play this game lag free! or well the gamecube might be helping it...
PIKACHU49386 2 years ago 2
Nope, the Gamecube has nothing to do with it. The Gameboy Player doesn't alter the games in any way.
The reason why the GBA plays it so well is because it's the Jaguar code (so basically the Jaguar game) running at 160x120 resolution. Lower res=smoother.
elbryan42 2 years ago
yea...when i looked for it for the gba..i found doom 1. there was only one copy of it all over town and i was able to get it. i beat it andi still have it...since im a major fan of doom like i said in the other one i posted. good vid btw :D

when you set brightness to 1 you get somehow nicer graphics....works on DS,SP and GC only though, you will see dog shit on ordinary GBA
Koopaboy 3 years ago
I liked the GBA version of it since it became a portable version of Doom. But I wasn't comfortable with the music in the wrong order (Doom II sorted that out) and I felt that it was a tad short especially with the last level being a secret level in the original Doom.
Despite all those problems it was still awesome that they released it on GBA.

Way to change the music. almost as bad port as 32x.
Link4587452 3 years ago
The 32x port isn't bad.
It isn't any worse than the SNES port.
DarkSoftStudios 3 years ago
Actually it is, strangely enough. The 32X version had missing levels and horrible music. The only part it one-upped the snes version was in the graphics.
