Unimog, Hands down. Renault has open vulnerable driveshafts, no portal axles, less articulation, Looks to have a higher CG though I'm not sure, and it's a Renault. Mercedes was 50 years ahead of their time, and still are!
@oibobbo So a Mountainbike is best, since it's many times cheaper than a Renault. I'll put my Mercedes Unimog against a Renault any day!! Any vehicle can have a breakdown, but this video is asking which is better, and the Mercedes is, by a LONG shot, and all Nato needs is transport on dirt roads, hell they could use a fleet of garden variety SUVs or 4WD Vans.
capability whise a mog is better but you lose an arm and a leg for not much more...i have driven both vehicles and ,the main problem with the renault is you have little bottom end power because it's petrol.
so you have to floor it all the time.but petrol 404's are the same ...
@oibobbo Over the road or a dirt trail is one thing, but the Mog is far better capability wise, with much better clearance because of the Portals, more durable and there are many aftermarket companies supporting them so they can be easily modified as well. I have a Diesel and a Gas Mog, spent 2,500 USD and 7,000 USD respectively, both running, and the gas has good bottom end power, it's just not happy at high speed. And again if your arguing lower price then go for a Chevy 2500 box van W/4WD!

i didnt use them on trails,i was working for a ski company putting up pylons,on35°+ slopes (they didnt want helicopters for some stupid reason),obviously as you seem to want to bring other vehicles into the deal,the best was a lada...
@oibobbo: No, I'm making a point that this video is comparing two trucks, not price, but which is a better vehicle. And I feel that the Mog is by far a superior vehicle. As an owner of two and working on several, they are quite amazing vehicles. I'm not saying the Renault is rubbish, but I'll take the Unimog any day, and they can climb 100% grade (45º ) factory rating, with a load. I have pushed this near 110% without issue. (Even benz tests to 110%)

funny now you mention that, nato have stopped buying mogs....to replace them with renaults.
besides they aren't comparable, a unimog costs about four times as much to build and buy.

i'm on about the price/quality ratio
a renault can cost as little as1000 euros
you'll be lucky to get a mog under 5000
for the money invested a renault is better.
