Others have mentioned it here, but whenever the Rangers of those days came up with a genuine tough guy, like Bert Wilson or Jerry "Bugsy" Butler, it seemed the couldn't wait to get rid of him. Then they cried when they were bullied by Boston or Philadelphia. I grew up in NY and remember those days well and could never understand it. Maybe that's why I was never, even for one day, a Ranger fan.
Bert "Long Arms" Wilson was one of the really underrated fighters of the era Not a big guy, but was wiry and tough, with good fighting skills. Didn't fight a lot, but held his own with some pretty tough opponents back then, and holds a win over the great Behn Wilson.
Bert Wilson was one tough little guy, he could really chuck 'em
There were some real tough smaller fighters in the 1970s...Wilson, Jonathan, Terry Ruskowski, Danny Gare, Randy Holt and even that faggot Gary Howatt, who while a miserable cheap shot was, admittedly, a good fighter
ty for posting this....The rangers got rid of alot of tough guys over the years Bert Wilson, Andre Dupont, Steve Durbano and Curt Bennett to name a few. They had no one to stick up to the Flyers and thats why Dale Rolfes beating at the hands of Dave Schultz went unpunished. Emille Francis is the reason the rangers got so soft.
