When I heard this song for the first time, it reminded me of Bulat Okudzhava. Look for Okudzhava's song "Prayer" (can't post link here, YouTube rejects comment).

As far as I know Cheikh Lô is a very, very devout Muslim. That's okay with me. Certainly, he is no fanatic. His music beatifully and gently lets us learn about his faith. That is again alright with me, although I'm not a Muslim.
Absolutely one of my favorite songs. I used to listen to this song for about two years via my car's CD player. And I am still not yet overstaturated... A great song; a great singer; and I just love those rolling mbalax rhythms!
Needless to add that I have collected all of Cheikh Lô's songs.
Maybe I should learn Wolof? The language sounds quite pretty and I reckon it cannot be much harder to learn than Chinese.

Wolof is not as hard as Chinese but probably about as hard as Hungarian.
