I'm thinking about getting one of these for my first car. I'm currently 19. Any one knows how good of a car these are, and how the performance is? I don't care about camaro power, but some thing decent.
@Ak47fauxy Mine too bc they only die if unless ur stupid and don't know shit about rotary. Most people don't like having to add oil and get their changes on time, but that's their stupidity. That's why I also am careful about which dealerships I go to bc u can't just cut this car off after it's been started, and u can't just take off if it hasn't warmed up a bit first. Other than that, they are WAAAY more reliable than regular piston engines.
@dieselpower7789 U use regular, synthetic will damage the motor. U must wait until it is fully warmed up prior to takeoff, and excessive driving. U can't cut it off and then cut it back on. U must hold the rpms around 3500 for about 10 seconds before u can shut it back off if u must after u accidentally start it up. And when u cut it off, rev it to about 3500 prior to turning the key off every time. These are all preventive measures to reduce engine flooding. Best bet, buy one of these new.
@dieselpower7789 Oh it LOVES to be driven HARD!!!!!!!!!!!!! When it's warmed up completely. U actually have to redline the car at least once a week just to ensure the engine doesn't get cruddy.

@lebking96 It goes in as a 4 door sports car. It's classified as a sports car because it's definetly not a family car. Same as Mitusbishi Evo and Subaru Impreza.
@davinpenh it depends man, 04 or o5, probably not, those models have issues with flooding in the winter. 06 or up shouldnt have a problem with that. but still, the wheels spin very fast and when you take a turn and the roads are slick, im not sure you could control it. but it depends on how snowy it is

I just went through the same dilemma (considered these 2 cars as well as a 993 Porsche). I ended up buying a brand new Rx-8 R3 simply due to the handling and the fact that it has 4 seats. The 350 and Rx-8 are totally different cars. The Nissan has way more power and low end torque, but there is something visceral about the driving experience of the Mazda that the horsepower/torque numbers don't capture. It's like driving a mini-Ferrari and the handling is second-to-none.
@Ballinj13 avoid the rx8 like the plague it handles beautifully and it very stylish inside and out comfortable BUT it eats oil and gas performs like a civic si and the reliability is horrendous its also a maintenance whore. i owned one and babied it. warmed it up, revved it bfore shutting off, no short trips, redlining often, checked oil temp pressure, etc... in the end it died anyway flooding problems and i got a cracked seal. i had warranty and they got me a new engine and i traded it in fast.

I just would like to say that an RX-8 is a terrible first car for anyone... poor reliability, high maintenance, premium fuel, poor fuel economy... hearing all the nightmares makes me glad not to own an RX-8.
This car is totally awesome! i'm trying to buy one myself atm, Just gotta get it insured and stuff. For some reason it's a 2600cc engine here in belgium. 1300cc would've been way cheaper on tax and stuff :P

@ManOfParody Ok, back in our dads days you could buy a brand new 69 camaro ss/rs for about 3500$. Now if you want that in a 2011 camaro it costs about 40K, so that's not even a valid comparison. And yeah i know about cars not having AC back then cause that wasn't standard on cars until mid 90s or whenever, and since im currently restoring a 69 nova right now that didn't have factory air, i know PLENTY about what cars did and didnt have back in our dads days. BUT NOW in 2011 $7000 is just right.

I'm thinking about getting a 2004 Rx8, But I've heard 2 different stories. I heard its very unrealible and is very costful in breakdowns. Ive heard from others that said its a car if you know how to take care of it properly. I'm 17 and this will be my first car that is my own. Imput is much appricieted.

Yea I had a 2004 RX8 GT, the week I bought it check engine light came on and sometimes would turn over a few times before it started..took it to mazda 5 times to get it checked cost me 1600 bucks and still had the same problem...no warrenty Mazda them selves wouldnt help, codes were saying valve stuck but they replaced them twice, sold car now have altima coupe and love it...LOVED THE RX8 BUT THEY ARE VERY PROBLEMATIC, CHECK AROUND AND YOU WILL SEE!!

@tableoftisch im looking to get rid of my prelude and get an rx8 but everyone keeps putting me off with fuel costs problems etc, but as you said every car has issues. look at the s15 for example the list is endless. the good thing for me is that im in australia so our winters arent anywhere near as cold as you guys have in the states so the issues of it not starting arent as prevalent, but is the fuel cost really as bad as people make it out to be?
@natalie0785 gas prices keep goin up, thats about the only problem cuz i only put premium in mine. if you drive it like a normal you can expect about 20mpg. but ya gotta rev it cuz thats what it likes n lowest ive ever gotten was 17.5mpg. on the highway doin 70 with cruise you can get 25mpg all day. about 250 miles per tank is avg for me, highest ive gotten is 315. i drive mine every day n have never minded spendin gas money so its not a problem to me at least :P its a great car! def get one :)

rotarys are known for hi revs & most drivers love hi revs couse is good for the car life but that require ad oil . for my experience I will say rx8 need a bout a quarter every 3k if you drive the car & don't check oil & do oil changes after 5 or 6k you are in troble don't spect long life on engiene I check oil level avery 3 weeks. but if you love sport cars as soon you drve rotarys you under stand what we are talking about. check mine "rx8 mx5 my sport rides"

@thegame3z rx8 is a great care unique handling & really smooth ride. & is true 04 & 05 had some problems 04 & 05 owner had flooding problem some engines got replased after 30k mazda said was becouse of bad maintanence but did a recall extend warranty on engine to 100k & inprove spark plugs & lubrication compression. & from 06 is pretty reliable afcourse you have to know the car. some rx8 owners never pay attention to oil & after time they are going to have problems ...
Check engine light is on...yeah...illuminated check engine lights in RX-8s are about as common as any other feature.

This is a moms car, 30k car that only has 230HP and gets crappy gas mileage. Why not get a Mazdaspeed 3 for 20k and 263HP and get almost 30 MPG?

@ManOfParody Ok, back in our dads days you could buy a brand new 69 camaro ss/rs for about 3500$. Now if you want that in a 2011 camaro it costs about 40K, so that's not even a valid comparison. And yeah i know about cars not having AC back then cause that wasn't standard on cars until mid 90s or whenever, and since im currently restoring a 69 nova right now that didn't have factory air, i know PLENTY about what cars did and didnt have back in our dads days. BUT NOW in 2011 $7000 is just right.

I'm thinking about getting a 2004 Rx8, But I've heard 2 different stories. I heard its very unrealible and is very costful in breakdowns. Ive heard from others that said its a car if you know how to take care of it properly. I'm 17 and this will be my first car that is my own. Imput is much appricieted.

Yea I had a 2004 RX8 GT, the week I bought it check engine light came on and sometimes would turn over a few times before it started..took it to mazda 5 times to get it checked cost me 1600 bucks and still had the same problem...no warrenty Mazda them selves wouldnt help, codes were saying valve stuck but they replaced them twice, sold car now have altima coupe and love it...LOVED THE RX8 BUT THEY ARE VERY PROBLEMATIC, CHECK AROUND AND YOU WILL SEE!!

@kingcwhat i bought 04 rx8 two years ago, didnt have any problems aside from auto level headlights not workin, did not intend to drive it thru 2 minnesota winters but my luck sucks and i had to, it has survived brilliantly ive had no problems at all and i've also driven it 35k miles in 2 years, which is more than previous 1 owners years combined, and no problems at all, driven daily, starting in -25 degree weather in all, EVERY CAR IS PROBLEMATIC, CHECK AROUND AND YOU WILL SEE!! dousche

@tableoftisch Man, I know you love your Mazda..I did too. Coolest car I ever drove and loved going around corners, including on/exit ramps!! The sound...AMAZING..is it sometimes hard to hold on while going around corners?...YES. I'm telling you, I did mad research before i bought this car, in fact the first one i test drove broke down, I was still interested!! the dealer knew I wanted the car and never called me back! Drove 5 hrs to get the one i bought, NOTHING BUT TROUBLE!! LOVE MY ALTIMA!!

@tableoftisch im looking to get rid of my prelude and get an rx8 but everyone keeps putting me off with fuel costs problems etc, but as you said every car has issues. look at the s15 for example the list is endless. the good thing for me is that im in australia so our winters arent anywhere near as cold as you guys have in the states so the issues of it not starting arent as prevalent, but is the fuel cost really as bad as people make it out to be?

@natalie0785 gas prices keep goin up, thats about the only problem cuz i only put premium in mine. if you drive it like a normal you can expect about 20mpg. but ya gotta rev it cuz thats what it likes n lowest ive ever gotten was 17.5mpg. on the highway doin 70 with cruise you can get 25mpg all day. about 250 miles per tank is avg for me, highest ive gotten is 315. i drive mine every day n have never minded spendin gas money so its not a problem to me at least :P its a great car! def get one :)

This year rx8 had a recall on the engine. We just traded in our '04 rx8 with a 2007 engine for a 2010 gmc sierra:)

@africanking220 someone sells a board that plugs into the back of the radio, and you can then add your choice of device. (there are also other ways to hack it yourself)

rotarys are known for hi revs & most drivers love hi revs couse is good for the car life but that require ad oil . for my experience I will say rx8 need a bout a quarter every 3k if you drive the car & don't check oil & do oil changes after 5 or 6k you are in troble don't spect long life on engiene I check oil level avery 3 weeks. but if you love sport cars as soon you drve rotarys you under stand what we are talking about. check mine "rx8 mx5 my sport rides"

@thegame3z rx8 is a great care unique handling & really smooth ride. & is true 04 & 05 had some problems 04 & 05 owner had flooding problem some engines got replased after 30k mazda said was becouse of bad maintanence but did a recall extend warranty on engine to 100k & inprove spark plugs & lubrication compression. & from 06 is pretty reliable afcourse you have to know the car. some rx8 owners never pay attention to oil & after time they are going to have problems ...
