  • i miss them so much. roll next year when we see hst proto with a valenta woooo

  • Woot! Love this, thank you!

  • great video nice to hear 43123(Valenta 1972-2010) at full pelt

  • Wife and I had a cracking run one sunday from Euston to either Wilmslow or Macclesfield (can't rememeber which one) in about 1998. Very lightly loaded train, had a carriage virtually to ourselves. The driver wasn't hangin around - one of my best HST runs,

Would have run at 110 maximum at that was top linespeed at the time, no EPS limits or bloody balises......

  • PROPER diesel traction, unlike those bloody Virgin Vomitors that replaced them!

  • @86501freightliner Agreed. I regularly travel from Euston to Crewe and voyagers are too small and uncomfortable.

  • good vid mate. i miss the valenta engine

  • Thanks!

  • A question for any1 who knows: Back then on the WCML 90's/87's/86's would have been limited to 110mph, but could the HST's still do 125mph, or were they limited to 110mph as well.

  • I guess they would have been limited to line speed. I don't know if there was any in excess of 110mph at that time.

  • @rachaelmatt No they were limited to 110mph. It wasn't until the upgrade work for the Pendo's and tilting that any part of the WCML was authorised for 125mph running.

  • @rachaelmatt I know this is probably a bit late but before the introduction of the pendolinos and voyagers, max speed on WCML was 110. It was only with the introduction of the EPS that trains could do 125 otherwise the journey would have been severely uncomfortable for passengers. So even HSTs were stuck at 110

  • Cool Video! I Think Virgin Trains Should Have Kept The HST's And Just Of Changed Them Into Their New Livery Because It Would Look Way Better And Thay Are Way Longer Than The 5 Car Voyagers!

    5 Stars

    Video 395

  • ouchhhhhhhhhhhhhh my ears. beasttttttt. mtus will try to beat that??

  • Great video m8! I miss the Virgin HST's, they were soooo much better than the Voyagers. I dont like them, only 4 coaches long, 3 standard class and 1 first class, or an extra standard coach on the super voyagers. Bring back the HST's!! 5/5

  • great video

  • One word to describe all Valenta HSTs in this video - WOW! Great selection for this video.

I do wish Virgin kept them for the Anglo-Welsh services instead of replacing them with the much shorter Voyagers.

  • Amazing. The sound of a Valenta is quite comforting as long as you know its not going to crash into you! 5 stars

  • 43068 sounding fantastic as always 5*****

  • Thanks - only seems like yesterday that I was recording it!

  • Brilliant video as always Derek, thanks and compliments of the season to you and your family..5*...Bob

  • Thanks Bob and, likewise, Merry Christmas to you and your family, Derek

  • excellant mate!

  • they were the best

  • 2nd hst is 43157 first then 123 last

  • Well, yes I agree that 123 should have buffers so it can't be that leading. However, the clearest but still blurred still frame suggests a 2 as the second last digit on the leading loco. I was reliant on my mate for reading the numbers so he must have got it wrong, but it should be 157 on the rear!

  • 123 has buffers (now with grand central) people may be confused about the numbers 157 which hasnt got buffers (now with crosscountry) renamed 357 157 is in the front and 123 in the back basically 157 hasnt got buffers and 123 has simple as that!

  • No Matty it may not be that simple. We both agree that it's not 43123 on the front but, as my mate may have read the number wrongly, it could be another 43 in the range 120 through 129 on the front rather than just saying 157 is on the front and 123 on the back.

  • oh ok im just helping ya thats all

  • Humble Pie time - I've checked the stills on the original video and the rear loco is buffered. Thanks for pointing it out!

  • Not a problem - out of interest do you know which class 43's were working the WCML at that time? I'll also see if my mate has still got his original records as the same combination may well have gone down earlier in the day whilst we were there.

  • Superb as usual and cheddington even better!

  • Thanks!

  • awesome! one of the best vids I've seen! 5/5 and favouriting!!!!

  • Thanks!

  • Another well deserved 5*, faviorited!

  • Cheers!
