@12235117657598502586 Hand Crank, solar power, gasoline powered generator, stocked up batteries. It doesn't take much juice to run one. If you have a couple car batteries you can recharge the batteries for the radios for almost a year or more depending on how much you use it.
It's always a good idea to prep for natural disasters anyways. We all know Fema is pretty much an underfunded joke these days. Guns are always great for camping, hunting, but what you really want is solar panels, 2 way radios, first aid kits, water filters and SEEDS and some knowledge of how to grow food.
You'll never store enough food to survive the worst situations.
Don't forget close ties with your community and neighbourhood count for a lot too! Especially if they all have guns ...

Why must the media always sensationalize this? I am really growing weary of all media coverage of prepping and survivalists. This is why I give very few interviews to the media.
Last message for now. Do you have candles in your home? Do you have jumper cables in your car? If so, you are prepared. Everyone starts somewhere. Katrina victims were kept waiting. Fukushimain, Japan? How about the nuclear plant in NE? Tornados in NC and MA? Wild fires in AZ and NM? NYC was disabled by a snow storm this past winter. Do you go on road trips with the kids? Capri Suns and pretzels keep the kids quiet but also come in handy if you get stranded enroute. Disasters come in all sizes.
FYI, my message was not to prepare for financial instability nor government crisis. I wanted the message to be prepared for the little disasters- snow storms, black outs, floods, evacuating your high rise apartment builing at 3am... I also said it was more important to learn first aid and life saving techniques than how to shoot. Cooperation of your neighbors and family and everyone having a plan. Basic skills such as making fire and cooking and canning food.

I have firearms because I teach courses. I have food because I eat. I stock up on TP so I can wipe my ass. Ham Radio is a hobby. Solar flare or EMP attack can take out civilation for a year. If you have lived through a hurricane, ice storm, blizzard, earthquake, these are at least events that are limited to 2 weeks or less and a local area. Add to that chances of economic collapse, civil insurrection and just good old "normal" crime, home invasion, railroad train derailment, and you definitely need to prepare to survive on your own, without 911 for a few months bare minimum.

@12235117657598502586 Hand Crank, solar power, gasoline powered generator, stocked up batteries. It doesn't take much juice to run one. If you have a couple car batteries you can recharge the batteries for the radios for almost a year or more depending on how much you use it.

It's always a good idea to prep for natural disasters anyways. We all know Fema is pretty much an underfunded joke these days. Guns are always great for camping, hunting, but what you really want is solar panels, 2 way radios, first aid kits, water filters and SEEDS and some knowledge of how to grow food.
You'll never store enough food to survive the worst situations.
Don't forget close ties with your community and neighbourhood count for a lot too! Especially if they all have guns ...

Last message for now. Do you have candles in your home? Do you have jumper cables in your car? If so, you are prepared. Everyone starts somewhere. Katrina victims were kept waiting. Fukushimain, Japan? How about the nuclear plant in NE? Tornados in NC and MA? Wild fires in AZ and NM? NYC was disabled by a snow storm this past winter. Do you go on road trips with the kids? Capri Suns and pretzels keep the kids quiet but also come in handy if you get stranded enroute. Disasters come in all sizes.

FYI, my message was not to prepare for financial instability nor government crisis. I wanted the message to be prepared for the little disasters- snow storms, black outs, floods, evacuating your high rise apartment builing at 3am... I also said it was more important to learn first aid and life saving techniques than how to shoot. Cooperation of your neighbors and family and everyone having a plan. Basic skills such as making fire and cooking and canning food.

I spoke of how neighborhoods should work together and about keeping the family safe during a power outage, flood or earthquake. I have camping gear because I enjoy camping. I have firearms because I teach courses. I have food because I eat. I stock up on TP so I can wipe my ass. Ham Radio is a hobby. I have a first aid kit, fire extinguisher and HAZMAT suit because I volunteer in my community. Too bad you can't save a life with XBox. More of you would be considered prepared then.

Solar flare or EMP attack can take out civilation for a year. If you have lived through a hurricane, ice storm, blizzard, earthquake, these are at least events that are limited to 2 weeks or less and a local area. Add to that chances of economic collapse, civil insurrection and just good old "normal" crime, home invasion, railroad train derailment, and you definitely need to prepare to survive on your own, without 911 for a few months bare minimum.

If things happen such as a Bio chemo or nuke event. The govt would and has already stated that they would go door to door and evacuate peoples to a safe area (FEMA CAMP?). Then the gear you stored would be worthless unless u plan on hiding when they knock on your door. No the best thing to do is be independent. Live in the forest. Hunt and Gather not just wild but from evacuated homes stuff left behind. Its not about how much stuff u have but how smart you think...
