I have had two tours in Iraq and one in Afghanistan and as I sit and listen to Pink Floyd, their sounds evoke the same type of emotions as those two dammed wars in my mind. My earliest memories as an individual human involve listening to Floyd with my cousins. (STRONG memories) I also have clear memories of Floyd and sitting outside of Baghdad marking time until home. When the rest of the Floyd passes, I will cry.

My Dad, Korean War veteran,(God bless his memory) really admired David's guitar playing, and it isn't even on his generation's radar. Chasing the Bumble Bee about was Syd's idea if I recall it correctly, but I think David Gilmour was already onboard about then? It would have been about 1972 or something like that if I recall it correctly. The next concert about 2 years later didn't include Syd, and David and Roger seemed to be trying to shift gears a bit about then. Like Stephan Grappelli though, David is probably not one to just rest upon his laurels.

I sometimes forget how many really beautiful songs they have written, until I get around to looking about a bit. I saw them here in Seattle a few times, at the tail end of their Ummaguma tour and right after Dark Side of the Moon came out. Really magical... The Ummaguma tour had one of the very first high-powered Quad systems, which was totally amazing! As in chasing that pesky Bumble Bee all the way round back of the theatre.

Wow. I really wish there was an audio-only CD for this concert--especially because of this song. It just amazes me that the notes that Gilmour plays...with the right amount of space, just perfect. The note(s) that echo at 7:10 for those few seconds...it just feels like they were lonely, and in the right place, it just strikes something in your mind that just grabs you. Almost a bit of a tear jerker. He and Floyd knew how to reach that sort of "physical" edge of music. Couldn't live without them.
