@maryflo2 I agree 100%. I personally met Gov. Brown many years ago and was impressed with him. Since then, I have not always agreed with him, but this fiscal crisis has brought out the best in him. He speaks well, does his homework, and is probably incorruptible. In fact, I would prefer him over Obama for US president, due to his greater maturity and less egocentric personality. After several decades in Calif, I pulled my business out, but I wish the best for my many friends there. Go Jerry!

Governor, you are making the mistake of Schwarzenegger. He repeatedly sent measures to the special election ballot which the public clearly never intended to pass, wasting thousands of state dollars. We have already voted on the tax extensions; we voted them down. We knew then that the state was in dire financial straits, yet, the predominately democratic state legislature did not take the belt-tightening measures needed. They continued to spend, expecting that future income would provide.

Opening it up to the people, is easier said than done. The average American, aren't even registered to vote. They don't have the political knowledge to vote. It ruins it for all legitimate voters out there, but we can't risk this factor in the hands of liberal voters. Southern California and the bay area are dominated by Liberals and it also dominates the Inland Empire. I fear that if it is open up, the Liberal voters will vote to increase tax to benefit public programs that they live off of.

Hi @decidedvoter08. The problem is the "temporary" tax increase extension is for 5 years but the budget is for 1 year. What happens in years 2-5? The issue that is not being addressed is spending reforms.
I would like the opportunity to vote on the tax extension. I am willing to continue to pay the taxes I've gotten used to and preserve our public schools. Good Education is the future of this once Golden State.

last November we were asked to vote on increased taxes, we said no by a huge margin. This budget is a non-starter. Our state is 8th in the world for GDP, we are taxed the most of all 50 states.

Unlike many other states, where governors are trying to dismantle and destroy people's rights, California has elected a responsible and courageous leader who supports democratic ideals. @maryflo2 I agree 100%. I personally met Gov. Brown many years ago and was impressed with him. Since then, I have not always agreed with him, but this fiscal crisis has brought out the best in him. He speaks well, does his homework, and is probably incorruptible. In fact, I would prefer him over Obama for US president, due to his greater maturity and less egocentric personality. After several decades in Calif, I pulled my business out, but I wish the best for my many friends there. Go Jerry!

Governor, you are making the mistake of Schwarzenegger. He repeatedly sent measures to the special election ballot which the public clearly never intended to pass, wasting thousands of state dollars. We have already voted on the tax extensions; we voted them down. We knew then that the state was in dire financial straits, yet, the predominately democratic state legislature did not take the belt-tightening measures needed. They continued to spend, expecting that future income would provide.

The pensions that state employees get for their labor are unheard of in the private sector. Why should they get these exorbitant pensions when the rest of us who are working for our money and retirement don't get them. @FancyPantsElitist Wrongo Bongo, from my understanding as an employee of the State of California, the state workers put a small percentage of money in, and the state puts the rest. That money comes from the taxpayers, in fact their entire pay comes from the taxpayers. Why do State Employyes think they are entitiled to a Pension, when most private sector employees have to pay thier own. If they are lucky, their employeer may contribute additional funds. UNIONS be the heros here, no TAXES

Its easier said than done to have the people vote, I'm not going to risk having people without any political knowledge making judgments based on what should come out of my pockets. Therefore, I'm not in favor of having it be up to the people. I'm siding with the Republican party on this one. I wonder sometimes, if these people arguing over this video are even registered voters or have any political knowledge at all.

@judyluvsnoel, Do the math on this. rich people, including Politicians, are only 10% of the revenue of this State. The problem is that we got poor people leaching off THE SYSTEM. The State spending is 40% more than the revenue. So how is 10% going to increase a 40% deficit?

It is time for you and the legislature to do what we are paying you to do. Cut back in your spending, cut back unnecessary programs and be a little more frugal. The Gov. has some tough choices to make for sure due to all the B.S. that has been going on in the last 8 years. I say vote for the higher taxes for now and maybe reaudit these when possible, most won't feel this small tax pinch but if Jerry has to cut the budget without the tax increase this will hurt most that live in California! It's time to buckle down and face the music California! Jus be happy I'm not your Governor I'd first kick all the illegals out of the state!

This is BS from Gov. Brown; he is trying to pass the buck for what he and legislature were elected to do. The present problem was caused by the previous legislatures’ failure to deal with their own fiscal ineptness. The current legislature, and Governor, should deal with it (WHICH IS THEIR JOB!) vice trying to pass it off to the voters for political cover. If they can’t, they should resign and hold a special election to replace them with someone who has the brass tacks to do the job. DO YOUR JOB

California only knows how to bleed the people that have a little money. We have two California's, 1-the have's and 2- the have nots. The Haves are the government employees that get paid double what private sectors jobs pay and have 100% free healthcare. The have Not are the rest of us who pay their salaries.They believe they have a right to fantastic wages for little work. The rest of us have to say NO MORE!!!

Opening it up to the people, is easier said than done. The average American, aren't even registered to vote. They don't have the political knowledge to vote. It ruins it for all legitimate voters out there, but we can't risk this factor in the hands of liberal voters. Southern California and the bay area are dominated by Liberals and it also dominates the Inland Empire. I fear that if it is open up, the Liberal voters will vote to increase tax to benefit public programs that they live off of.

In continuation, I'm a Political Science student. I only ask for whoever is reading this to consider that fact that the decisions we are making will impact our children in the future.
Take in consideration, having the ballot be opened to the people. Let your Representatives representing your district know how your local city/ district feel about this.
Some decisions are reversible, but sadly, this decision that will be made is not reversible to improvise the future.

Hi @decidedvoter08. The problem is the "temporary" tax increase extension is for 5 years but the budget is for 1 year. What happens in years 2-5? The issue that is not being addressed is spending reforms.

What we have here is a prime example of what happens when a state is run by one party for entirely too long!!! The DemoCRAPs have been in control of the legislature for 20+ years and look what it's gotten us. $26 BILLION in the hole!!!!!

The LARGEST TAX INCREASE in U.S. history was given to us back in Feb. '09 and they said then that it would "fix" our budget. What happened?? IT DIDN"T!!! They already tried the voting with Prop 1a and that was demolished 65% - 35%!!!!!
