Subcutaneous injection (under the skin in the fatty tissue) is common with peptide hormones like Insulin or Growth Hormone etc.

IM injections are usually used with compounds suspended in sterile oil such as Testosterone or other steroids as well as many types of vaccines.

sugahface. You cannot inject into the fatty tissue if an intramuscular injection is ordered. You have to pull the skin out tight so that you inject into the muscle. Certain medications won't absorb correctly if they are injected into fatty tissue and can also cause tissue damage and pain that way. Stay in the safety zone and give the medication just as the doctor ordered it.
