I visited Choeung Ek in 2000, and it was not built up like it is now. I wish it had been left in its natural state. It had just rained when I got there. Teeth littered the ground like pebbles and leg and arm bones were sticking out of the ground. The monument, then open to the air,was literally almost bursting with skulls It's sheer rawness made it profound beyond description. At that time land mine victims were everywhere, It was, without question, the most profound experience of my life.
