This thing could make iPhone games so much better. Why don't developers like Gameloft support this at all? I bet people would be crazy for fps games on iPhone with this accessory.
Do you still sell these? i've tried looking on the site and i cannot find anything about it.i liked this idea more then the other ones since this one is more portable and seems easier to control.Hopfully someone will have this done when i get my ipod touch 4g.
@Raz0Fang well, almost. The ipod touch graphic capability is less than both of those handheld consoles, so we have to wait for a few years for better memory processing
One thing you should add to this: make an app that comes with it to allow it's use in official games. Sounds difficult but bear with me. The player would set up (in the iControlPad app) where the touch buttons are (say in the Sonic 1 app) then when you press a button on the pad, the iControlPad app reinterprets that as a tap on the spot the user designated as correlating to that button press. I would definitely love it so much if it did this.
KitsuneDragonRA -- that was exactly my idea as well, im sure it wouldnt be hard to do. that would be perfect. and im sure many others have thought of it too and someone is probly working on it. lets hope
Xlnt idea. Lets hope all games in the app store start supporting devices like this. As much as I love the unique and (clever minimalism) of touch on the iPod Touch and iPhone apps, it has to be said FOR CERTAIN GAMES A PHYSICAL DPAD AND BUTTONS ARE UNBEATABLE! Well done for making it a reality.

I'm guessing this would require a jailbreak to utilize? if so...fuck...I'm willing to mod just about any other game device, but I'm not jeopardizing my phone, I kinda need that to not have brick issues.
I will buy one even if it is defective just tell me how.....im serious i am tired of playing on the iphone's screen and this is exactly how i pictured a controller for it would look...the new one isnt a good idea in my opinion stick to this...it gives room for an L and R trigger.....just pm

Hey, is it possible to use the wiimote with the iphone and the emulators? The wiimote works on bluetooth, and the iphone is bluetooth compatible. It would be perfect for NES games. Also, with the nunchuk connected, it would also be good for other emulators. Any ideas?
PSP for games. iPhone for... phone. The PSP is cheaper, has a load more great games and it can also play all your videos, browse the web etc wheras the iPhone is a box of neverending gimmicks.
Oh yes, even though the iPhone does all of those things plus more. The iPhone safari browser is the best mobile browser available as it acts like the internet should act. There's also the option to download music etc from the itunes store on the go and download great games from the app store. Sure the iPhone isn't built for the great action games like Quake but other games such as Rolando would be nothing without the iPhone. ZodTTD, First of all good work so far with all your emulators and the repo ect, it's good to see the icontrolpad is almost ready after such a long wait - from the video it all seems to be going really well :) Second, I have 2 questions for you if you possibly could answer them it would be great thanks.
1. Can you give a GUESS as to how much this will retail for? I signed up for the newsletter last year but haven't managed to find out much about the price so far. And - (next comment)
I would really hope about £20-30 but a price like £50-60 could really put me off. And 2. Do you know how many will be made in the first lot produced? I would guess not a huge amount seeing as you don't know how well they will sell/be supported by other Devs ect.. Thanks if you know the answers to those questions.
iTouch is the same as an Iphone, just you cant phone/text with it.
an iTought will offer you wireless connectivity for free internet access, ability to go on the net to check emails, watch youtube, and browse websites, you will also have 8gb, 16gb or 32gb worth of memory to listen to music, view images or watch videos. You can also have other accessories such as an organiser, calculator...etc
You can run homebrew applications, emulators like a GBA, or SNES, PSX etc.
I'm going to get confirmation as to the available colors, though I know this prototype wasn't polished/painted. It's nearing mass production time though, so I will have that answer quickly.
Curiosity here...Besides white and black, any other colors people are interested in?
Dual analog opens up a lot of options when it comes to control schemes that developers can use.
If this were going to be official and suddenly new/old games on the apps store could use it, ZodTTD would be a fool to leave out dual analog... But since this probably won't get the thumbs up from apple, you can't fault him for concentrating on a product that will work for the homebrew scene.
And in that regard, I think it looks like a really solid implementation.
Actually there a lot of awesome games on the device. Rolando, Fast and Furious, Hero of Sparta, etc. And Payback which is a high-quality Grand Theft Auto style game coming soon.
If Gameloft updated Hero of Sparta for support with iControlPad, that'd be awesome; because the touch screen D-Pad can be a little hard to use at times. It seems like the perfect game for this gamepad.
@VuittonDonDanny - uhh... i do. IMO there haven't been more than a handful of really good games in the past 10 or so years. The quality of the industry has gone astoundingly downhill, its mostly EA & Ubisoft's fault for flooding the market wit so many mediocre games.
@ Zodttd - Glad 2 c this coming 2 light! Tnx for the effort! C u over on the pandora forums, lol
this is so lame.if the ipod touch is a powerful machine then we would like to see quake2-3,so weed need a few analog sticks not some directional pad.the psp is great machine, but it isnt great for first person shooters and it looks like this is the same as that.fps dont work without analog sticks.guess will wait for next psp
You realize that an analog stick will just get converted to a digital up/down response for movement on the X/Y axis by Quake anyways? Also keep in mind this same controller will be used with my (and soon others) emulators which also rely on digital button up/down responses from the dpad.
The question isn't whether the iPod Touch is powerful, it's whether it needs tactile feedback, which is what this provides. Also there is Quake 3 on the iPod Touch, for reference.
Who started the whole movement for an analog stick? Analog sticks make little to no sense for the majority of applications this will be used with (emulators) and even for FPS like Quake as explained in the times9 reply above. Most applications just want a digital response which shows whether a button is up or down. Within software, most analog sticks are just interpreted into digital responses of whether the stick is in a 4/8 way split section just like a dpad would give you.
I just saying if you played FPSs on videogames (like on a ps3) a analog stick is really handy for a Mouse Look-esque.
I don't know what are the chalenges on implement an analog stick, and, as you said "most aplications want a digital response" but, if you give'em an analog stick possibility, maybe more developers would make it usefull.
I know you have already stated on the site that it will have access to the headphone jack. How is this going to work, exactly? A pass-through jack?
Also, are the buttons "molded" into the case, or are they separate plastic like on the PSP? They look "molded" in, as in the buttons and plastic case are one.
Some neat ideas for the final version: play/pause buttons on side, battery for charging on the go (á la Mophie), built-in speaker for extra loud sound.
This looks amazing! This adds the buttons that gives the iPhone a huge disadvantage as a gaming device. Apple claims that no buttons is an improvement, but also call the iPod Touch a gaming device.
Can't wait to play Metal Gear Solid/PSX using this... If MGS ever does get working on PSX4All, that is. :P
I probably should have adjusted the sensitivity settings on Quake for use with the iControlPad. It's really easy to play quake4iphone with it either way though! :)
The video is very smooth, but when uploaded to YouTube their conversion process makes it skip a few frames in certain spots. Although minor, I thought I should let people know. :P
Also remember this is a prototype, and the production model will be even better. ;)
Will this have any kind of adapter included, or avilable, to fit iPod Touch 1st and 2nd gen? If not, how well do they fit into the control pad compared to the iphone?
It will work on all current firmwares, and I believe it will work on future firmwares as well. There's no reason for it not to. While this gamepad is meant for jailbroken software, an AppStore developer can add this gamepad code without getting rejected by Apple.
Is there any type of game controller for iphone that plays a game like call of duty zombies or the more advanced fpses?thanks!

Without dual analog stick i dont see any interest on a single Dpad.
1 DPad
2 analog sticks
4 buttons (eg, A,B,X,Y)
2 shoulder buttons
2 menus buttons (select start), optional.
The controller should have something similar to the PSP buttons design but two dual analog sticks instead of one.
Keep the good work,
cheers

@VuittonDonDanny - uhh... i do. IMO there haven't been more than a handful of really good games in the past 10 or so years. The quality of the industry has gone astoundingly downhill, its mostly EA & Ubisoft's fault for flooding the market wit so many mediocre games.
@ Zodttd - Glad 2 c this coming 2 light! Tnx for the effort! C u over on the pandora forums, lol

I can't imagine how hard Quake, and other games would be having to look up and down like that..and to VuittonDonDanny, shut up, Quake kicks ass.

this is so lame.if the ipod touch is a powerful machine then we would like to see quake2-3,so weed need a few analog sticks not some directional pad.the psp is great machine, but it isnt great for first person shooters and it looks like this is the same as that.fps dont work without analog sticks.guess will wait for next psp
times9 3 years ago
You realize that an analog stick will just get converted to a digital up/down response for movement on the X/Y axis by Quake anyways? Also keep in mind this same controller will be used with my (and soon others) emulators which also rely on digital button up/down responses from the dpad.
The question isn't whether the iPod Touch is powerful, it's whether it needs tactile feedback, which is what this provides. Also there is Quake 3 on the iPod Touch, for reference.

dumbass, its not fake, its a working prototype.
SewerShark 3 years ago
It took a whole team to say something that dumb?
zodttd 3 years ago
It needs an analog stick, like the PSP.
SewerShark 3 years ago
Who started the whole movement for an analog stick? Analog sticks make little to no sense for the majority of applications this will be used with (emulators) and even for FPS like Quake as explained in the times9 reply above. Most applications just want a digital response which shows whether a button is up or down. Within software, most analog sticks are just interpreted into digital responses of whether the stick is in a 4/8 way split section just like a dpad would give you.
zodttd 3 years ago
I just saying if you played FPSs on videogames (like on a ps3) a analog stick is really handy for a Mouse Look-esque.
I don't know what are the chalenges on implement an analog stick, and, as you said "most aplications want a digital response" but, if you give'em an analog stick possibility, maybe more developers would make it usefull.
Just commenting on a consumer point of view.

Keep up the great work!

needs a joystick

Instead of a dpad? Most games just translate analog into a digital response of a 4way or 8way direction anyways. :P

Damn, this tempts me to get an iPod Touch just to jailbreak it and use it as a portable arcade machine. :-D

I probably should have adjusted the sensitivity settings on Quake for use with the iControlPad. It's really easy to play quake4iphone with it either way though! :)
zodttd 3 years ago
i have been waiting so long to see the icontrolpad in action
i am a very big fan of zodttd and the pandora project
what i want to know is when will they be selling the icontrolpad
boktaisolarboy 3 years ago 2
this is very cool! but I do think Quake with touchscreen is much better.
but I wanna see it in action with gpSPhone! surely it'll be easier to use!

The video is very smooth, but when uploaded to YouTube their conversion process makes it skip a few frames in certain spots. Although minor, I thought I should let people know. :P
Also remember this is a prototype, and the production model will be even better. ;)
zodttd 3 years ago
Will this have any kind of adapter included, or avilable, to fit iPod Touch 1st and 2nd gen? If not, how well do they fit into the control pad compared to the iphone?
Retrophoenix 3 years ago
The iControlPad was modified to allow the fitting of both the iPod Touch and the iPhone without the need of separate adapters. :)
zodttd 3 years ago
oh and could u show a video of gpsphone please i want to see if it wil be any smother with the icontrolpad
wroachbarrette 3 years ago
Thanks for the request. Possibly soon I can get a gpSPhone version. I believe SNES is next though.
zodttd 3 years ago
ok thanks. i am intrestread to see how this will affect the speed and over all functionality of the emulators
wroachbarrette 3 years ago
it wil be for jailbroken devices and i cant wait till u can get one
wroachbarrette 3 years ago
That looks great. So will this work for jailbroken and non- jailbroken devices? Also will it work on all firmwares including future updates?
CarnageXB 3 years ago
It will work on all current firmwares, and I believe it will work on future firmwares as well. There's no reason for it not to. While this gamepad is meant for jailbroken software, an AppStore developer can add this gamepad code without getting rejected by Apple.
