Yes I know for a fact that he uses Shure PG series on the Toms. AT4040 on one of his overheads, the other not sure of, SM57 on the snare and Audix D6 on the kick.
@MissPurpur You can start practicing all of this just by taping your legs! Believe me! I started like that 1 year ago, and I still do everyday at the office, it's an excellent drum workout :)
@MissPurpur That's awesome. Like someone else said, practice any way you can: with your hands on your legs (I do this all the time), and one of my personal favorites is beatboxing. Now, I don't have great effects, i.e., if you gave me a mic, I might not sound great. But I do it when I'm walking along and I think of a rhythm. It let's me get in the habit of working out rhythms in my head, and internalizing them.
Best of luck! You've got a step up on a lot of us---you've got Mike from the start.
Mike what's up. I first sound all of your videos a few weeks ago, and since then I signed up for your Intermediate Camp this July (2012)! I am unbelievably excited and cannot wait to learn from you and get better. You are an awesome teacher. Looking forward to this summer!
Hey, Mike. Awesome vid, as usual. But I meant to ask you, how come you never have a foot cam? I'm sure most of us would love to see that crazy foot technique of yours up close. :) I mean those doubles? Daymn.
Mike had a footcam once in one of his live lessons. Being an online student of his, I know he will tell you its not needed and I agree. Mike's technique is sorta like a slide technique but skips instead of sliding. I know seeing it you think you will learn from it but really it's just practice. And yes it's all single kick....Mike always says to just practice cleanly and gradually increase the tempo and speed will come.
Hey coulds you possibly add a little window in your videos to show whats going on with your feet i cant remember but i thought you said you dont use a double kick im trying to improve on my single kick
Mike, amazing lesson thanks man !! I was up late the other night just practicing the sticking to this lesson when i heard a person breaking into my house downstairs. I threw my drumstick at the window and it scared them off. So i am now thanking you for not having my house burgled...Thanks !! :-)
oh and also i love the sound of your kit and i know its dw and i know your endorsed by dw so you shouldnt really sujest other manufactures but i really love the sound of this kit but cant afford a dw, is there any kit that you would sujest for around $1000 - £1200 including hardware so without hardware take off like $220 that would come close to sounding like yours really apprecieate your feedback thanks mike
man that was difficult but i stck at it and now i can do it without thinkin, it was the quater notes on the hats that i was gettin me me i got them now hahahahaha thanks mike you are a great teacher, this excerize has really helped me with my independance on left foot and speed of bass drum foot thanks again
THAT´S A WRAP!!! wonderful lesson Mike, I was actually thinkin how would that sound adding some cymbals, sounds good with the hihat and the ride. But i thimk it wound sound better with a stacker, bad news is I dont have one :s, anyway thanx a lot!!
Hi Mike. Thank you for sharing your knowledge to everyone here. I've been following your videos since you started in youtube, and i think you are an incredible `one' bass drummer i've ever seen. Do you have any plans of coming to Toronto Canada for one of your clinics? or Did you already come here? Let us know. I'll be there.
CALLING DRUMMERS!! Im a small youtuber and need your feedback! I would love to know what you think of my playing and how to improve... so if you have the time it would mean a great deal to me! All the best to you all, Jack!
Hey Mike! Big fan! I was just wondering: howcome you're not playing on your signature snare? I remember when it came out, you dissed people who have a signature snare and don't use it on their own kits. I'll still be a loyal fan regardless, but definitely want to know! Cheers!!
Mike, if I had more money, I would buy all your lessons multiple times just to support you as much as I could, You're great man. Thanks for another amazing video
Dubstep is at 140 usually, and I love to play, I just have to be playing at 70 usually :P This works on both of the things I'm doing right now, so I think this excercise is perfect, new think for the next month :)
This absolutely awesome, just for the fact that you can turn regular old rudiments into linear fills with lots of bass drum! And I really wonder what a book report would sound like. Seems like it'd be insane! :D You're the bomb, Mike.
mike, please help me! I´ve been watching your youtube vids for years now and I want to sign up for the live lessons since your first video. But I have a problem with Paypal and I can´t pay. I asked your wife to help but without success. So now I ask you to help a drummer to get better. Can we find another way to get me in the live lessons? paying with bank instead of paypal?
@drumteacher76, appreciate you and your work like nobodies business. Love seeing what you've got to offer. You've definitely been a part of my drumming journey.
dude, i've been drumming for 5-6 year now, and have been follwing your lessons on and off for a couple of those years .. you, my friend have molded me to be the drummer I am today. keep them coming and thanks bro!

I just gotta say Mike, that you are fantastic at what you do, and I am super bummed that there isn't a large music store that could afford to bring you in for lessons within at least a hundred miles of where I live. *sad face*
doing these exercises in quintolets/septolets of 16s/8s/4s would be even cooler =)
