I worked for them here in the USA @ 2 Nuclear Plants as a foreman and had no problems with them. Well managed with the help of union craft they served there clients well... Not sure how they work over seas but no complaints from my side.

@edw6727 nobody said it's a bad company for it's employees: but about it's ruthless managers involved in politics at very high levels, so that they can take advantage from the corrupted goverments in poor countries, by obtaining contractual clauses that are very unfair to the poor people. Actually I would blame more their corrupted goverments and only after that blame Bechtel's owners / managers.

@dejavin in my oppinion they cant get very far.If Behtel would have come straight they would have made less money but would have secured a preferential treatment cos Romania goverment wants to be closer ties with US.But by bribing and gettin a very high price, they lost the whole contract plus credibility, you wont ever see somethin built by Behtel in Romania or East Europe, word spreads.That is playn your cards bad then complainin chinese take over.

The Romanian government had conflicts with the European Union for choosing an American Construction company to build the biggest infrastructure project in Europe, that's why progress is slow. The problems for the project are political.

As a water resources engineer, I may know more about what happened in Bolivia and Nigeria than most. Increasing the prices of water will pay for water treatment processees and distribution systems. Prices also control the excessive consumption of water. The poor were not connected to the water previously and were paying more for bottled or hauled water than the rich who were connected. Engineering firms are strictly controlled by the contracts of the clients.

If what you say is true, and Bechtel's actions were a blessing in the form of *lower prices, then why did the very people they were helping revolt? Is it because they were being punnished for collecting rain water? Perhaps its because they were price-gouged? Perhaps they felt the enslaving pressures of corpratism--where you work long hours for just enough to survive--so that life was better before Bechtel?
