If I had to put together my ideal band from the best players ever to live, it would be : Guitar - Jan Akkerman, Drums - Pierre van der Linden, Bass - Bert Ruiter, and Organ, Piano, Flute, Singing, Yodelling, Whistling, Handclaps, Angelic sounds, any vocal sound known to man and in Heaven - Thijs van Leer, otherwise known as GOD.
was just listening to the longer studio version of this (on Focus 3) earlier today---this version smokes! there was always some very brave improvising from this band live, not unlike some of the Blue Note hard-boppers from the Van Gelder era (heh see what I did there?)
Saw Focus in NJ after album Moving Waves hit the charts. Thijs Van Leer classically trained and is a prodigy on the organ, flute, and piano. Great band!
Best Song They Ever Did. The Studio Version is Over 26 Minuets Long.On The Lp Version It Took Up One Whole Side Of The Record And Part Of Another Side, The Longest Rock, Jazz Combo Song I Know Ever Written. Can't Find Focus 1 Another Powerful Classic Song They Did That was Over 9 Minuets Long.Jan Akkerman Is Probably One If not The Best Guitarist in The World.
My My, what a piece Thank you for posting this video excellent quality, and the camera shots are clean, the angles, and the editing goes with the music, very Warm Very Focus.
@edctgbujm123 nice to see it recognised.. thats why music today leaves me cold..it takes no talent in my opinion to be a group of pretty boys calling themselves a band yet none of them play instruments, who do covers versions of other peoples songs..badly..it makes me sick to see the young thick and stupid youth of today go mad for them, they are small minded who are pleased by little things..some of us prefer more talent and virtuosity in our music...
it is a standard Gibson - Les Paul with standard humbucker pickups, nothing modified or special about it. Sounds more "dense" and bassier with longer sustain then a Fender Strat for instance.
This footage proves only one thing, that, Pierre was one of the BEST drummers during the 70's, Bert was one of the BEST bass players during that era, Jan was definetly within the top ten BEST guitarists of its class and its time, and Thijs is still one of the best musicians in the history of Rock music !
Both Anonymouses by Focus, are the greatest musical themes I've ever heard. All the Focus music is absolutely beautiful. Thanks for that great video !
great & so good !!! extended play !!! wonderful band is focus.

@BenMolen You're absolutely correct! I found out about that a few months ago myself. The Netherlands had some great bands back in the 1970's!
