Who the hell cares if he uses a pick. Probably the best plectrum bassist in metal IMO. Jason Newsted is a VERY close 2nd.

i would fucking prefer if the bass was almost this loud in the original recordings. if you cant really hear bass "in your face", it almost losts the meaning of bass being played in bands, sure it is to glue all stuff in the recordings together, but really punchy bass sound gives the music more balls in my opinion, just look at sleeps song dragonaut, thats the shit!

I play in a covers band and if my wrist is tired or sore i'll play this finger style and i personally don't think it sounds that bad but maybe thats just my tone and my sound. Everyone sounds different and plays differently and fingers have different tones

Personally though i play with fingers as much as possible and i feel i still get a bright trebley gallop sound finger style as well but we are different players, different set ups, styles bands and such so we sound great in our own ways! (My sound is bright, and i mean REALLY bright haha!)

@gianniswildchild So do I, I've been playing bass guitar for like 3 years now and I use both techniques, I use fingers for a more mellow blended sound and pick for more of an attack. And sure Dave Ellefson isn't the best bassist ever or something, but the argument is against this whole pick vs. finger debacle and not which technique makes you a better bassist (or musician for that matter). D. Ellefson uses a pick so he can cut through the distorted guitars and it's easier to play with a pick.
