The Prodigy's music was better when it relied on sampled breakbeats rather than Liam's poor drum sequencing abilities.

what are u on about mate? liam hardly EVER used straight sampled breakbeats. he arranged different parts of mutliple breakbeats to create a new beat. i.e. a snare here, a hi hat there etc... infact, this is what set liam apart from the majority of the crowd. (acen is in this list too).

yeah, he did. During the 'Experience' and 'Music for the Jilted Generation Era', primarily. Obviously they were not all 'straight sampled breakbeats' (although many were-- listen to 'Poison,' for instance), but even when he did chop up and sequence the hits of recorded samples, he was still using breaks. Now it seems like he uses a lot of one hit samples to program loops from scratch, and they sound really dull.

i thought you might use poison as a reference. weather experience has a sampled break too, but thats not the point. liam is without doubt the finest electronic drum sampler of his generation/era. and as for using one hit samples, thats the scene at the moment mate, its part of the sound hes got going at the moment. i challenge anyone out there to come out with breaks as heavy and as hard and as well sequenced as liams. granted, AONO wasnt good, but liams back on top again with IMD!

it's a matter of personal taste-- I like the funky break samples more than the over-compressed, artificial-sounding one-hit samples.

as for who is the best at percussion sequencing, that would definitely be richard james (aphex twin)

i'm probably a much bigger fan of the prodigy than half the ass clowns on here, so I'm definitely not bashing them. I like invaders must die a lot more than always outnumbered, never outgunned.
