JImi? give me a break, Jimi was the master of distortion, thanks to Les Paul.
Beck is the master of guitar. check out the DVD "Jeff Beck Rock 'n Roll Party, honoring Les Paul, you won't be disappointed. Best version of Sleep Walk ever.
@troymancer Brian Setzer is amazing. But Jeff Beck can do this and also Scatterbrain, and Goodbye Pork Pie Hat and everyhing in between..There's simply no match between the two..
@CosmicXRay what you say makes alot of sense. We don't hear this side of the story too much.
All the Brit guitarists were really getting their blues homework together around the time of Jimi's debut in London which as we all know, made them all go home and start over.
Jeff was different, always pushing limits, more daring and musical than any other guitarist at that time but I guess felt overwhelmed by Jimi's flamboyance and total mastery of the Strat.
I have his signature guitar, great tremelo, clear till last fret, amazing...but only he makes it sound like this, I love to play it this tune, but he makes it sound like the original steel guitar...then this volume knob mastering...definately the best tone in the business..man when did he start..? A legend...
This seems more like a nod to the Hank Marvin version with a little extra thrown in. The comment about different interpretations is so right - all these guys - Beck, Setzer, Gatton, Chet, do their own thing and its all good.
if a beautiful sunset had a sound it would be jeff beck......satriani does a great cover also but i still prefer Jeff........I can't believe Steve Vai doesn't play much slow stuff like this.............imagine if this guy didn't spend 50 hours a month building cars.....Jeff you're the bomb period
there is almost nothing similar in the way these guys play (satriani, setezer, or beck) not their equipment, not anything (barely the music)... and they are all awesome!!!!!!!
I just listened to seltzer, satriani and beck back to back to back.
I don't think it matters about which is better.
Interpreting a piece of music is a personal thing between the artist and the music, then between their performance/production and the listener. Since these folks all have great ability, I could find something interesting technically and artistically in each, especially comparing how they would treat specific passages or how each would begin the song.
great but still you got to pay homge to santo and johnny there version is amazing and without them you wouldnt have this cause santo and johnny created this song
his dynamics is just haunting me. and most of all, his white scarf, white boots and white strat over his black tight leather suit. rock n roll is indeed about coolness.
Satriani Covered this on "Strange Beutiful Music" released I think in 2001 ......Quite similar to Becks version.....but with more of Satrianis hammer on pull off shreding.....
@Vikkers122 The original was great as well. But if I recall there were two guitars. It was also a studio version which is different than doing it live. Jeff Beck's version is the best live version I heard. It's something about the way he stretches notes and seem to pull the sound. Incredibly beautiful work.
Dreamy slushy oozey gooey yum yum.

Check out Danny Gatton's version and check no more. I think even Mr. Beck would agree that Gatton's version is head and shoulders above the rest.

imo, it was first Jeff, then Jimi (RIP), and Jeff continues to go where no guitar has gone before
few people seem to know Jimi was so intimidated by Jeff that Jimi avoided meeting Jeff when he came to London
apparently, Jimi was a huge Yardbirds (Beck) fan
also, Jimi quotes from Jeff's "Rice Pudding" in a couple of his songs
point being, a lot of mutual respect
