  • This is SOOO 1983. Great year for music.

  • Most underrated new wave record of the 80s. Hands Thompson Twins - SIDEKICK with "Lies", "Love on Your Side", "Watching", "We Are Detective", "Kamakazi", "All Fall Out"

  • GOD,,,,,THE 80's WE'RE A COOL DECADE TO GROW-UP IN & THIS GROUP PROVES HOW COOL THEY WE'RE........

  • Awesome Song.

I remember buying the 12" at Turning Point Records in Burbank, back in 86.

  • google earth is doing this to you

  • Faron, my best friend in 1983 looked just like the singer of the wonderful Thompson Twins. We bought our cloths at Merry-Go-Round and Chess King! Praise the 80's!

  • proving once again, that the 70's and 80's had the best bass players ever. you'll never here bass playing like this in any now day radio song.

  • I actually think Side Kicks (Or whatever you want to call it) is one of the best albums of the 80's, and my favorite that the Twins have ever done.

  • @MordaciousFilms totally agree. very underrated

  • left right left right left right left right left right left right left right left right

  • fucking twin roll'd again

  • Actually, I could watch Alannah all day long.

  • I love the Thompson Twins!!!! excellent video and songs. I still play this album.

from top to bottom. Now I play it on CD still love it the same. I own 2 of their concerts

they are excellent live. One of the best new wave groups. Thanks for making my

days happier. With your wonderful good tunes. You made the 80's the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I Love This Song So..........

  • Wow! I never knew there was a video for this song! I believe I read Grace Jones is actually doing the chorus vocals on this song. This is pretty cool!

  • I had NO IDEA there was a video for this song! And of course, it's cheesy like most T. Twins videos. STILL, "Sidekicks" was one of the best albums I ever bought. I highly recommend it for everyone. An aside, (and I'm Black), I never knew Joe of the group was mixed-race. I just assumed he had two black parents.

  • Gosh, this brings back such great memories. The music today is really sad for the most part. Taylor Swift..a Grammy..give me a break! Carrie Underwood an ACM...please....and then theres Ms. Spears....enough said. I will stick with the 80's!

  • The bass is excellent!

  • Awesome!

  • Love the bass line on this track!!

  • Very much of it's time - I bet they are both producers now

  • YOU JUST GOT TWIN-ROLL'D

  • It is incredible how prophetic this song is. watching you, watching me! It's more a part of our culture than ever, and will continue on with little hand held candy tidbits.

  • actually to me,this song summed up the DISCO WORLD,"watching you, watching me,electrified they fight and fuss about,i'll SPEND ALL MY LIFETIME,WATCHING YOU WATCHING ME,LOOK LEFT,LOOK RIGHT

  • I am not quite sure why, but I love this song.

They used to play the extended version of Watching You (Watching Me) on KROQ in LA and me and a co-worker would do the whole Watching You Watching Me chorus Fun times. :).

  • I think the 80s was a much more creative/innovative period. Everything now is so formulaic.

  • @RainPoetry I agree 100%.

  • @RainPoetry I'd offer you aren't digging very deep into contemporary music. Indeed, the trend in indie-rock and underground pop the past ten years has been "everything but the kitchen sink" songwriting and proclivities towards the unusual and avant-garde. Consider Joanna Newsom, Animal Collective, Akron/Family and Cocorosie for starters. I understand your statement is a reaction to present day Top 40 but still..turn off the MTV and corporate radio and go find the good stuff, It exists!

  • @dwshill Thank you for taking the time to formulate that response. You presumed that I have MTV on or even Top 40 radio, the former of which I pretty much turned off in the mid 90s and the latter in the mid 80s. :) As for today's trends in independent and underground, you are quite correct that there is almost universe of it available. If I can be so bold, I find much of it to be very derivative. That may be due to my age. :)

  • His Name is (Tom England Bailey.) excellent Teacher-Musican-and Inventor of Thompson Twins-New Wave Techno

Tom's postion in the band was percussio-

n-,Vocals,(Keyboards-prop-one-) The Video was produced by Steve Lillywhite production.chesterfield England.

  • she looks like the emperor! DARTH PLAGIUS NOOOOOOOO!!....... urk!

  • YEAH!!!! that's Right, never forget that!

  • The Female Thompson Twin is dressed up as a damned Sith Lord.

    ??? Darth Thompson ???

    LOL....still good video.

  • Ahhhh their love for the dramatic, Incredible and Fun!!!!!

  • This was always my favorite song by them. Awesome stuff-- thanks for sharing!

  • I am amazed that no one has sampled this song or made a new version of it. The music is so catchy !

Miss the Twins - music is boring without them.

  • brilliant.

  • That's a little odd that they're in white sheets carrying torches at 2:00.

  • Just love it!!!!

  • I heard this song for the first time two months ago when I hooked up the turntable for a friend of mine, a Hollywood exile. This was the first song he played. I love the "haunted" sound of it and how it captures the special, unmistakable sound of that time. A fun, weird, sad, reverberating album that stays with you.

  • @bijeto That haunting voice in the refrain is Grace Jones. They omited her vocals on the remixed single version that was released mid 83'.

  • i have never heard this song before but i lik it

i reli wish i was around in the 80's i missed such a good era offically but im only 16

it isnt the typical type of thompson twins song to me but it is still very good!

  • I hadn't heard this since it was in the charts in 1983 but I remembered it instantly, great song.

  • saw them 4 times back in the 80's still love when he sang Sister of Mercy at the Hollywood bowl with the beautiful piano opening. Long Beach culture is a great song. There was a really great song on a 12 inch vinyl we have called Leopard Ray too. Wish they'd come back and do a concert sometimes always great.

  • how creative is this video and song????

nothing like the same ole crap you find today on MTV

I'll take the 80's talent anytime!

  • Eye actually AM watching you watching me.

  • Johnny, what is your favorite Thompson Twin song? Or your fav two T.T. songs? Also, what do you think of their song "Salvador Dali's Car"?

  • Well QUICK STEP & SIDE KICKS is my favorite ablum, I adore every track on that album. INTO THE GAP is good, but I just find the music on Quick Step to be a bit more quirky and fun.

"Lies", "Love Lies Bleeding", "Watching", "Love On Your Side", "In The Name Of Love", and "If You Were Here" are some of my favorite songs. I haven't listened to anything post-INTO THE GAP because I prefer early 80s to late 80s.

  • Back in the day, music used to be original, unlike today... Great tune.

  • Great bassline too, huh? How about that groove!

  • One of my favorite TT songs. I've never seen the video but I still have the 12" E.P. that I bought in 1983. Thanks for posting!

  • The operatic voice in the song is actually Grace Jones. She was friends with the producer and was down in Nassau at Compass Point Studios when the Twins were recording.

  • @afilaccio Grace & Alannah were (are?) friends, as well. Her contribution really adds to this fantastic track! Too bad she wasn't in the video too!

Thanks for this info. I had almost forgotten.

  • Living in America, I never got to see this video much at all. I have it (on VHS somewhere...lol) THankas for posting it! I truly love The Thompson Twins - my favorite memory/band of the 80's!!!

  • this is waht got me into the band

    CLASSIC LOVE IT

  • Killer TT tune from their best album-Sidekicks had some killer trax especially Kamikaze and If You Were Here (featured in Sixteen Candles at the end)

  • Theres nothing weird about this song

  • YOU ARE RIGHT! There's nothing weird about this song! It is a true piece of musical art! Glad you made that comment.

  • I like to consider Thompson Twins to be a very artistic band. Nice musical structures, really paints a picture. Alot better than today's generic-sounding pop. This is very unique!

  • I feel exactly the same way. They are like artists and the songs are like paintings, like sculptures, emotionally colorful!

  • love the band, but damn this song is goofy, and 80's cheesy.

  • It was the 80's. It was all a bit cheesy.

  • ARGH SHITMONSTER thompson roll'd

    - David.

  • Love this. My 1st TT tune I bought. Reminds me of school!!!!

  • Thompson Twins is not about the 80's it about the thompson Twins. Tom Bailey is God of Techo-new wave..no one can master the thompson twins machine and techo in Que arrangement...

  • Man, Thompson Twins were SO AWESOME -- I love the '80s. SOMEBODY, bring that decade BACK... PLEASE!!! :-)

  • This video is about Tom bailey working in Willy Wonka's Chocolate factory...

  • I was class of 84 and loved the Thompson Twins.always thought they were a great band. Finally!! People are appreciating them.

  • Great song and so many great hooks, unbelievably underrated.

  • Um...I actually really like this song. Embrace the weirdness. Why avoid awkward 80s music videos? EMBRACE THEM!

  • grace jones did the back up vocals for this haunting tune, love it!

  • now why in hell aren't these guys playing the Super Bowl halftime show?????

  • Man, great call. I guess the NFL is afraid these guys might show up Tom Petty and the Stones and *gasp* Janet Jackson.

  • An innovative gem from the 80's. The video borders on the homemade, but I guess that is part of its charm. A relic from a time when chart pop was not afraid to be a bit strange!

  • biggest pile of shite i've ever heard!

  • great song amazing video 80s music has been made for the next 500 years

  • Very cool vid. I loved the Quickstep & Sidekicks album. I wish they would remaster it and release it on cd.

  • Both Quickstep & Sidekick and Into The Gap have been remastered and will be available on CD from early March with loads of 12" mixes and rare tracks! ;o)

(PS - Gotta love that bass sound - very signature sound for them)

  • Huuuurrray!!!!

  • One of my favorites.

  • love it!

    ;)

  • The Thompson Twins were one of the most original musical groups of the 80s and 90s. The music factories of today which turn mediocre singers into cd selling pawns, wish they could even come close to such complex creative heights.

  • You´re right man, I agree with you. They don´t have melody, rhythm, only noise and shouts...

  • BEST BAND IN THE WORLD without doubt

  • what a great bassline!

  • The original backing vocals were done by Grace Jones which is why the girl is wearing Graces Cowel outfit designed by Jean Paul Goode

  • untrue. grace jones had no input on this record whatsoever

  • Sorry mate but you should get the original record!

  • I have it. Alex Sadkin produced the thompson twins, he also produced some of grace jones work. At no point did they work together

  • ok i just checked and she did. sorry. im off to chew on a big slice of humble pie. :-(

  • I dont know, it has something about it!

  • See my post and get the album! Its a good song!

  • I think that that was VisiCalc on the computer green-screen. It was one of the few spreadsheets available in the mid-eighties.

  • Shall I shut up now..?

  • A behind the scenes look at life in a German pedestrian crossing light factory, "Look left, look right..."

  • wow! and there he goes messing about with a real one at the end!!

  • Is that a rubber chicken he puts in his top pocket at 01:46..?!??

  • artistic expression & LSD are a lethal mix!!!!!!!! what the heck was that ? ERM

  • were any animals harmed in the making of this video?
