The bible actually uses the Greek word Stauros which means post or stake. There are many proofs that Christ was executed on a stake. However, if he was killed on a cross He still would have carried just the cross beam that still weighed around 100 pounds. Mel Gibson got the thieves right but not accurate on this scene for Christ.
