Nothing tops ELO's timeless original, but this is a great cover version. It doesn't try to simply mimic the original. It does what good covers should do - work with the different talent and style of the cover artist.
The ambient instrumentation make this really bad the vocals and melody I don't mind the hyper synth but the background would be better a little more classical.
dispite my love for ELO's version of this, i think this version is good. it seems odd to me that people say they only like one version. the only bad thing is that nois in the first 5 seciond, otherwise i see nothing for ELO fans to hate.
by the way, if you do think this is has ruined it, try the alvin and the chipmunks version. THAT is a bad version

Just found this chick... great voice! Covering my favorite band of all time... BONUS!! I can only imagine her and Jeff Lynn doing this as a duet. This is not as good of course, but glad she has good taste. Her Keane cover sounds good too. :D
