@MrJohnnie23 No. What I took from that smirk was a powerful message. It was that look that he knows what he's got to do and nothing is going to stop him. He didn't know they'd see eachother again, but that smile is like two warriors going to battle.

i swear. this will always be my favourate movie of all time. saving private ryan, we were soldiers, pearl harbour, goodfellas, black hawk down, and all the rest would still be second to this
I've been a huge fan of Al Pacino and recently shot an indie horror thriller with his sister Josette Pacino called "HOUSE OF MIRRORS." She's great in the film. Acting does run in the family
They have ONE scene together.Just one...and they couldn´t even find time to play the scene together.Concidering the satus of these two and this "classic" cup of coffe..you gotta wonder,WTF? Shooting the scene seperately. Guess there wasn´t room for both their egos. Since I found out about it,the scene made sense but I lost the respect I had left for all 3 involved. A classic scene that didn´t take place and if you watch the scene, you get it.Why not ONE shot of em both, huh?Wasnt needed?
"I do what i do best.I take scores. You do what you do best.Try to stop guys like me".-This line says a lot about Hanna and McCauley.Brilliantly delivered by De Niro.
thats a metaphor for school, al pacino stands for teachers, de niro for students, they do what they do best: cheat. Teachers s job is trying to stop them from cheating at tests
Al Pacino is my all time #1 actor of all time, but Bobby is bloody brilliant too. So much respect for these guys. I don't care if they didn't film this scene together, their films and acting performances will live for decades and decades to come.
I wish to christ that was at least one shot of Al and Robert sitting together at the table, in a side angle...Michael Man usually does shots like that.
@mjfreaklove Harry Potter is one of the best screen productions of all time, actors and production. Harry Potter isn't Hollywood either, I think you have your maps mixed up. You clearly know nothing about to the movie industry, try not judging an industry you know nothing about.
@JordanWells15 I am sorry if you are such an avid HP fan who knows shit about the movie industry since you adore so much a product and nothing more,I think I saw a couple of movies in my life which can clearly give me a clue about this industry.I hope you got my irony.P.S.I don't give a shit on the nowadays so-called ''statistics''.Go ask Pacino what he thinks about that joke called Harry Poker!!!I've made my point and I also am done arguing.
@mjfreaklove yeah hollywood movies had a good run. They slowley started dying around 1999 and kept going until about 2005. Movies are dead now. I havnt seen a movie worth watching twice since maybe 2006
@jono546 right on...When my father told me that I told him he was full of shit....But i googled it and he was right...They were making other movies at the time....
In this film DeNiro and Pacino are like the fox and the hound. They could have been the best of friends, if they weren't already the worst of enemies.
@Therealtaxidriver Don't agree with scumbag. He cares for his partners and tries to talk them out of something he knows will likely go very wrong. He also has much respect for a man who has the same ambition and morals as himself but just happens to be on the opposing end of the law. Scumbag he ain't.
I will not hesitate..not for a second....look on Deniros face..when he starts.."Theres a flip side to that coin"..is so classic.....cant get nuff of this epic movie....the epitome of cool..
HOLLYWOOD USED TO MAKE MOVIES ABOUT REAL MEN, NOW THEY MAKE MOVIES ABOUT VAMPIRE AND HOROR AND THEN WE WONDER HOW TO FIX ECONOMY, HOLLYFUCK WE TURN OUR KIDS INTO PUSSIES AND ALIENS , INSTEAD OF RAISING BOYS WITH TESTOSTERONE OUR SONS GROWING UP WITH E STROGEN , BTW OUR DAUGHTERS HAVE HIGH TESTOSTERONE WE TEACH THEM SOCER THIS IS HOW END OF THE WORLD WILL COME AMERICA OUR DAUGHTERS WILL PLAY BASEBALL AND LICK PUSSY SONS WILL COOK IN A KITCHEN AND SUCK COCKS , BUT DONT WORRY CHINA HAS 1.4 B !
Although you see what looks like both of them on screen together, you never actually see their faces at the same time on screen together....it's always the back of one of their heads.
you ppl dont understand how metaphoric this scene is....they were in character yeah but the whole conversation was parallel to they're acting careers...like when deniro says "we've been face 2 face" he was talkin bout starring together in godfather 2...& when he said " maybe we'll never see each other again" he was ironically saying maybe they'll never make a movie together again because everybody had been waiting on a pacino/deniro movie for like 20 yrs
2 of the best actors in our generation! what a great film. Righteous Kill missed the opportunity to repeat or exceed what Michael Mann did with Heat. Oh well, Heat is a rare gem
It's amazing how in action films like this, sometimes two guys just talking is more intense than anything else in the film. Same goes for Joker and Batman in the Dark Knight interrogation scene.
They weren't really together in this scene. It was shot separately. There was never a zoomed out shot showing them together in the same table. The camera just went back and forth. I felt cheated when i found out. But don't get me wrong, its still a great film.
@RGN07 that's how a lot of movies are made. They are together, however its different "takes" of the scene, which is why in a lot of movies if you look closely at over the shoulder shots, you may notice subtle differences in original position of the "not shown" character.
@RGN07 Not true. In interviews, Pacino has said they did the scene together (without rehearsals), and according to imdb and my own viewings, the true letterbox format shows that they did share some shots. It's just this version of the scene which may make people suspect that the actors didn't actually sit down and get filmed together.
@ianschulz1 Ok then. But if that is so, then the director did a poor job. All he did was create the impression that it was done separately. How could he let such a great scene like that be questioned?
@RGN07 You don't know what you're talking about. I've seen pictures from the set showing them together at the table listening to Micheal Mann. Besides, it's obvious from the smirks that they we're both there doing the scene and had alot of fun doing it.
@PatTheRiot Jesus christ you get some stupid motherfuckers commenting. The smirks were nothing but finely acted, premeditated actions to imply that, both men - despite their obvious disparity - silently understand one another and even translate a little bit of respect for the other in that moment; a genius touch if you ask me.
So no, there was no real life 'enjoyment' (tho they probably did enjoy it) interfering with a scene that was FILMED. All planned. Stop being a fucking idiot.
@acrobbo Or it could have also been intentional to show the homo-erotic tension in that scene that make wannabe actors (read: closet queers) go nuts over this on youtube.
@PatTheRiot Or, it was put in to separate the smart film-lovers from the dunces; the ones that understand that anything on camera is intentional and not a sneakily little improvisation that the director of a multi-million dollar budget film would miss.
@gaijin3 If you can find the 2 disc DVD of HEAT, watch the special features section with Micheal Mann "Creating a Scene" & in the restaurant scene they act together & Micheal Mann did a simple 2 shot scene rather than not complicate it with 2 of the greatest Actors. It took De Niro & Pacino approx 11 takes to nail it.
if im there and i got to put you away i wont like, but if is between you and some poor bastard whos wife you goin to turn in to a widow,,brother you are going down,,,,thats a bad ass lineeeeeeeeee
@2salonika Original song is called "New Dawn Fades" written & recorded by Joy Division. The Heat version is re-mixed by Moby & still called "New Dawn Fades".
That place is one of the last remaining "Bobs Big Boy Resturants'. its located in Burbank Ca. There used to be plaque where this scene was filmed. Not sure if its still there. This Friday i'll check. On Fridays they have big free car shows.
@Fordje66 The line is just ironic, if you've seen the entire film u should get it.

RGN07 3 months ago
@RGN07 You don't know what you're talking about. I've seen pictures from the set showing them together at the table listening to Micheal Mann. Besides, it's obvious from the smirks that they we're both there doing the scene and had alot of fun doing it.
PatTheRiot 3 months ago
@PatTheRiot Fuck you, how dare you say i don't knw what i'm talking about. i was with the crew on location you fat fuck. Go suck eggs.
RGN07 3 months ago
@RGN07 lmao, You fucking clown troll. Just go google picture micheal mann al pacino deniro and you'll see they we're face to face. Dumbass kiddo. LOL
PatTheRiot 3 months ago

PatTheRiot 3 months ago
@PatTheRiot Or, it was put in to separate the smart film-lovers from the dunces; the ones that understand that anything on camera is intentional and not a sneakily little improvisation that the director of a multi-million dollar budget film would miss.

Pacino and De Niro did not act in this movie together at the same time. Check out the editing people. You never see them together.

@gaijin3 Agree, you beat me to this post. I felt cheated when i found out.
