Good video. I have a 90 LS400 and have only had it to a little over 130mph. Not because it wouldn't go faster, I was just easing, but because I lost my nerve. Not from the speed of course, but of the cops. If I knew there were no cops, I'd love to run it up to a buck fifty.

they have an unrestricted spead of 168mph, i can change down a gear at 135,
people think these are heavy but they only weigh 1600kg, 600kg less than a bmw 740i, and a 0-60 time1.3 seconds quicker. i have had a bmw and a jag xj8, but they cant even get close to these on power.
i had an xj8, v8 jag, my lexus blows that off the road, people think they are slow, but they certainly arent, especially over 100, i can almost do that in 2nd gear, they are 1.8 seconds quicker off the mark than an xj8, and 1.4 seconds quicker than the bmw 740. the top gear guy jeremy clarckson has a vid on youtube saying that at 70 they are 8 decibels quieter than a rolls royce. the build quality is out of this world, mine has done 182,000 and is like a new car,
what car is it? its all about power to weight ratio, but what is so surprising to people is that the lexus ls400 does'nt look quick, as its big and heavy.

The car's a 1.8T Jetta, basic bolt ons (tuned, exhaust, intercooler).
I don't know why so many people doubt lexus. It is the best selling most reliable lux car on the market for a reason. Are the newest ones as good as the 90-94s? Clearly not. The first genereation Lexuses were 60% hand built and calling them overengineered is almost an understatement. You can call it what you want but I have gone 147 with no problem and the acceleration and ride was still smooth as silk. The people who say bad things about lexuses are the german car nuts.
German cars are fantastic, but at that point in time, lexus had them whipped. BMW, Merc weren't even in the same universe as these cars, they went back to the engineers and copied the body design so that the air will flow above and below the car like the LS did.
I had one (it's called a Toyota Soarer in these parts) and it was the same. Nothing amazing off the line but it just didn't stop accelerating from then on.
No problem for an ls400 it will do that all day long. Fantastic over engineering by toyota/lexus. Those who dont know should go buy a french car so we can laugh at them some more.

The car is truly going at 155 mph; If you observe carefully the speedometer, you will see 2 different speedometer readings; the larger (outer) semicircular one is callibrated in miles per hour while the inner smaller one is callibrated in kilometers per hour. The speedometer needle clocked the outer reading at 155 miles per hour. Satisfied?
Thats a trick guys, he is using a special magnet which pulls on the speedo kneedles, and his friends are shaking the car:) well known trick here is britain, we invented it.
You should have had the radio off, to better hear how AMAZING it is that the LS400 can be going 155 MPH with virtually no road noise. What a superbly engineered car.

It rides a little harder but nothin you won't be able to get used to just avoid big holes because it gives the car an aggressive drop. My front end dropped about 2" while the back dropped 1.8" so considering the drop it rides pretty well

And my car has over 310,000 miles on it + I am the 7th owner... What must be the new cars like? A dream!!!
Exactly, when I bought mine (UCF10-II - the same engine as the original LS 400 from 1989), I took it to an official dealership for a complete check (including electronic diagnostics). What they found was regular maintenance only - front brake discs and pads, front absorbers, fluids, belts, POSSIBLY spark plugs, cables. Also, some idiot put wrong tyres on it (H-spec up to 130 mph). For example, I got some Japanese brake rotors and pads just for $220 including postage. WOW!
And the smoothness of the ride is just AWESOME. I sat in quite a few cars, but this is really spooky... Even the used cars dealer was amazed by the car - he used it for 3 days to check it out. (And his car is Audi A8 4.2)
In my 1994 LS400 (180 kW/245 hp), which has a 4-speed automatic transmission, you can do 226 kph/140 mph in 3rd gear (i.e. with overdrive off). If you leave the overdrive on, the car auto-shifts into 4th gear at 212 kph/131 mph. The car does 88 kph/54 mph in L, 147 kph/91 in 2. The nice thing is that you can select the gear manually (4th - D with overdrive, 3rd - D w/o overdrive, 2nd - 2, 1st - L).
damn i did the same thing on my ls400. I have 5 of them and they all in good condition. plus v8 really kicks. i got up to 155 on all of them but i did it at a track not on a freeway or highway... did it once and i almost lost it.
Sweet but, seriously, get somebody else to hold the camera next time. You can drive that speed and be safe if you're a good driver, but doing it with one hand on a camera is pretty reckless
You might want to take care of all those indicator lights before you do this again...but then again, why do you need tail lights when you are going 155?
Ya I have L.E.D.'s for bulbs so it doest register in the system. Also the check engine light is on cause my trac control doesnt work lol. So it's all good haha
if your traction control dosnt work then it will just make the TRAC light stay on solid. if you your check engine light is on and the trac off light goes on with it then its somthing other than just trac control. id check your codes. my 91 did the same thing.

I have the car over 2 years and love it. It drive like a charm doesnt feel like 18 years old car.

Its no fake. My LS drives 243 km/h on gps while the speedometer says 250 km/h. I once had the speedometer at 265 km/h. So byebye BMW ;)

Yo I got regular suspension but I got KYB GR-2 shocks with Tanabe Sustec DF210 springs so it's been lowered bout 2" thnxs man
