If you have reasonable suspicion (Slurred speech, dilated pupils, glossy eyes, smell of alcohol Etc) then you have enough reasonable suspicion to perform field sobriety testing. If they fail that now you have probable cause for DUI in which a breathalyzer is administered. Its a ladder of continuum in which each stage needs to meet certain minimum in order to move up. And its just more evidence the officer has for court.
