@watchman241 I agree. Like it or not, the evidence is that the Protestants did start it--they would not give civil rights to the minority and responded with violence when the civil rights movement gained momentum. It's very sad that a majority believed they were doing the right thing, defending their faith and way of life, and didn't necessarily know why suddenly the Catholics were attacking them, but they did hit first.

I mean you drive up the falls and kill some catholics(taigs as you call us) and the IRA drive up the shankill with a few machine guns and try to kill the UDA men responsible(this is a good point because although the IRA did murder protestant civilans sometimes, the leadership knew killing civilians would be bad for the image and sectarian so they just targeted the UDA, UVF people who were doing the killings instead).

I don't think so. The PIRA walked into a Gospel Hall in Darkly and shot dead the congregation. No UDA or UVF men there. Also the Claudy Bomb no UDA or UVF men there.
It is spelt Teague not Taig and I don't call Roman Catholics Teagues. So before you start shouting your mouth perhaps you should take time not to sterotype people.

bollocks, your thinking of the INLA, and they didnt kill everyone, they are consider extremists even by the IRA. Like I said, the IRA didnt actively target civilians. Yes some volunteers murdered them from time to time in retaliation from catholic murders but the organisation wasnt targeting them in a campaign. Alot of the bombs, the UDA were supposed to be there but werent. Like the shankill fishshop. There was a uda office upstairs were adair was suppose to be but an accident happened.

loyalists murdered nearly 1000 catholic civilians and were equiptment and trained by the BA from some point onwards when the brits couldnt get the SAS to murder all the IRA leaders. The loyalists just used the equiptment and training to murder evermore catholics as the loyalist murder rate increased to its peak in the late eighties and early nineties.

I actually agree with you there; obviously if people of Northern Ireland don't want to be part of another country (say, a united Ireland), then they shouldn't have to be. Likewise, Northern Ireland nationalists shouldn't be expected to be loyal to another country (UK). The power sharing stormont government is the perfect solution, its all about give and take. I don't believe in forcing other people to do what they don't want to do at all & I certainly have no love for Sinn Fein, trust me on that

How did they start the conflict? By declaring war on the IRA that had been around for 60 years? They started the war back in 1912 and they continued it for decades, the UVF only came in the 60s

Sorry, sorry, I think I missed something. How exactly were the civil rights protestors in any way controlled by the IRA? Sounds like rubbish to me. Just an excuse, no less, to beat some Catholics unconscious. And how dare John Taylor say that they did not campaign for his rights; he was part of a community that was administrated over by a Protestant, gerrymandering government. Christ, the stupidity of these people is absolutely galling.

Civil Rights movement had many protestants like my parents.Never raised the border issue but wanted reforms. Paisley, Trimble & others saw a chance to fill the void using fears of protestants & were effective with religio-politics. This vid shows the revisionism of reactionary bigots who made fortunes on the backs of protestants whose lot wasn't much better than catholics. They stoked the flames of bigotry/divide & rule without dirtying their own hands or enduring the hardships of loyalists.

It's all so ridiculous. I'm sure if you checked far enough back in the historical records, you would find that both Protestants and Catholics are from the same bloodline. The signifier Protestant and Catholic means very little indeed.

Protestants are a breakaway sect of the Catholic church. They 'protested' against the Vaticans tyranny and reformed in, IIRC, the 16th century into believing the bible is Gods word, and not the Popes interpretation of it(the Bible).
