Typically, Northern breeds, like the Shiba Inu or its relatives, like the Akita Inu... look like either a fox or a wolf.

Need I say more? lol

They all capture my heart, yours definitely included. lol

Shibas are very loyal. However they have a very strong personality. They are not for everyone. Make sure you get plenty of Shiba time before taking one of these dogs for you. Just like any dog, they need a pack leader with a stable environment. Most are not to well with kids, they do not like the fast moving.

I heard from AKC and other websites that Shibas are good with kids, just respectful, not irresponsible ones.

I don't think you can ever be 100% sure on how a dog will react with a kiddo. I assume if you have the dog from a puppy with the child they will be just fine. This does not change the fact that Shiba's don't typically enjoy fast movement around them.If a Shiba has a strong pack leader, they should be pretty balanced dog they may not have to many 'demands'.

my dog plays the exact same way.. same breed.. probably older though. he pounces into a crouch and then spins in a circle, and then runs and jumps on you. its really scary. haha. i think its more of a challenge than anything.
