They used to come by my hold house and make these sounds, i used to love them sooo much! since i moved i didnt here ONE single morning dove :'( now ill go on this video every morning, thanks :)
i love mourning doves : ) when i was little, i thought that their calls belonged to fairies (a misconception which i plan to reverse for a book that im working on)
haha. I saw one the other day and heard him cooing. We get a lot of these here in Sindh Pakistan too. He's not my fav as I like white ones but I love his sound.
I love mourning doves! They sound really pretty. We get a lot of them around here haha. When I was little I actually used to imitate their calls and they would "talk" back, it was funny. One actually landed on my finger, it was really cool (:
@halfcat1996 I've never had a bird land on my finger, you're lucky. Although, I have a video of this dove and its friend looking in my window like they're trying to get in the house. Maybe I should upload it?
@XBlackRoseAlchemistX Take a look at my latest video. A baby robin jumped out of the nest too early, but the Mom kept feeding it. I got a good video of it.
@TheWolfsCall Hey.You know that it is easy to mistake morning for mourning but the audubon society and many other bird experts spell it mourning. The birds sounds like he or she is in mourning. It is kind of difficult to figure out but i hope this helped you,
That's the sound i was looking for @ 0:17. I used to hear that sound outside and i used to whistle the same thing back and we would go back and fourth, it was awesome.
I actually have a female that is nesting on my balcony in a plant pot, I live in new york city and I have never seen this type of bird in this area, and there are 2 eggs in the nest.
I know it's not a Chicago-only sound, but WOW! This reminds me of so many Springs and Summers in my life. I've heard this bird a million times, wondering what it was.
@Vercetti272007 The dove was sitting right above a robin's nest under the deck. You can hear the robin flying away and chirping. That's when the dove looked surprised.
@Vercetti272007 I have tons of videos of wildlife in my yard, and I've tried for months to upload to YouTube, but 90% of the time they get corrupted. Only very short videos seem to work.

What is the sound they make when they fly away.
shadow12231337 1 year ago
@shadow12231337 Some pigeons seem to "grunt" with each flap of their wings. Like she's really working hard to fly away. That's my opinion.
jkontrad 1 year ago
@jkontrad Per Wikipedia, that sound is actually the air whistling through their wings.
themaritimeman 8 months ago
@themaritimeman Thanks for the info. I stand corrected.
jkontrad 8 months ago
@jkontrad No problem.
themaritimeman 8 months ago
@shadow12231337 The high pitched sound is actually their wings flapping.
agile1111 1 year ago
@shadow12231337 The sound they make when they fly away is made by their wings. When air goes through their feathers the wings make a whistling noise.
