  • I had a beautiful '73 Brougham with around 75K, 440 and duals. I drove it from the FAR north 'burbs of Chicago to Terre Haute, Indiana on about 3/4 tank of gas, raining all the way and the A/C running. I figure the car was getting about 22 - 23 MPG; not too bad for a land yacht. I loved that car; smooth, quiet and the 440 still had plenty of power. This was a pre-convertor engine. I still have the original AM/FM Stereo radio and it works perfectly.

  • Cool! When can we see videos of the Dart?

  • I'm sorry, but I find the aftermarket speakers in the dash to be a bit, well, aftermarket. Shifting from 2nd to 3rd is amazing.

  • @Thunderchicken1997 Tell me about it! The previous owner mutilated the dash and installed those atrocities. :/ I have sold the car now anyhow. Got a 73 Dart Sport now.

  • take that to the autobaun in germany no speed limit dude !

  • @raydonato42276 It would probably run out of gearing around 130-135mph. Just a guess.

  • do over 100 easy ., i know where you can get the 140 mph interested ?

  • Id suck your cock at full throttle if you arent afraid of the speed

  • The state trooper probably saw you speeding there and said "Ah, screw it."

  • BTW, is it usually that loud, or did you flip the air cleaner over to magnify the sound?

  • Holy shit! That thing can MOOOVE considering it's age and weight! :) :)

  • 15-60pmh in just 8.5 seconds?? amazing.

  • If that has the same rear mine had, I guarantee if you shift it yourself, you can get 70 mph out of 1st gear and 100 out of 2nd gear......

  • Must be in the midwest USA someplace. I have a soft spot for old 70's era large Chrysler products!

  • These cars didnt have much power cause of all the emissions crap but they had enough and who the fuck cares about speed when you are riding in such luxury and they are still so fun to drive. Just peeling out is fun. I have a 78 tbird and a 70 plymouth custom suburban and i drive a 96 grand marquis as my econo car.

  • I love the 70's land yachts. I drive a modern land yacht... 03 Crown Vic. Would love a 72 Newport but the Crown Vic can get 20mpg average lol.

  • Great sled you have there, look after her. They dont make any of the new crap like these babys EVER

  • Damn...that thing shifted from second to third at 90 MPH??!!

  • @MrZdvy --- yeah that bitch was gone right ., fuckin'a dude !

  • Hey Bruce, It's like your old New Yorker !!!!! GLO !!!

  • It may be a smogged up 440 with tall rear end gears... But it's still a 440! No replacement for displacement.

  • I own one to it's awsome. And a 1977 neeport

  • lol i know its going to be hard to park cuz that car is big but i think i would be good and i have a lot of chrome parts for the engine so the 440 is going to look good cnt wait

  • Shift from second to third @ 90+ . . . COOL!!!

  • im 13 and my step dad is giveing me his 4 door 75 chrysler new yorker brougham around this summer

  • Brings back memories for me. I had a '77 Newport myself. My late uncle gave it to me as graduation gift in '82. I used to call it "the living room on wheels". Typical Chrysler ride, comfort, and power. It was loaded pretty well with the creature comforts. The analog clock always amazed me. Like many analog car clocks of yesteryears, they usually stopped working. Or gave you all kind of wacky time keeping. Mine was always right on the mark....Thanks for the ride down memory lane.

  • congratulations to your lovely New Yorker, thats truly a REAL STYLISH SEDAN.

I would love to bring over your car to Germany for a test drive on German Autobahn

(TOP SPEED TEST ;)...I am sure the big Engine can crank the Car to allmost 130-140 Miles :) Good sound your car has!

  • Damn, Chrysler sure built bullet proof cars back then!! I had a 69 and a 70 newport with the HO 383 V8, and miss them to this day. Nice car!!

  • Sounds good. Was the gas back then different for it to run different?

  • @adape0884frank This video was from 3 years ago, I am running nothing special for gas. Just 89 octane(with mandated 10% ethanol) from the pump, the lowest my local gas station offers. My 440 with low compression pistons and open chamber heads will let it run on even the worst quality gas without trouble.

  • @adape0884frank Back then, fully leaded premium was still available.

  • The only thing I see that I don't really like is the steering wheel :(

  • @SilvaTone2203 And you know what, I agree! I liked the factory 3 spoke steering wheels that were offered for this car far more than the one that mine got on the assembly line! Oh well, beggars can't be choosers, I have far too many projects to worry about this right now, someday I might find a 3 spoke wheel that matches, sigh*

  • @aboomanation Don't get me wrong I like the middle part, its just the outside part with the brown grip makes it look weird..

  • @SilvaTone2203 Ha, yea, that part is strange, and I am guessing it is not factory. Some previous owner must have put it on. I just can't wait for winter to end so I can drive it again:)

  • @aboomanation Oh man Your so lucky to have this car.. :D

  • Owe I am pretty sure you have more then 215 HP that is with those old restictive catalytic convertors,,,,

  • @mechanicwarrior20 Understood, but my car is the last year for no catalyst for Chrysler cars. My 76 Cordoba had one, the 75 New Yorker did not, but came with single exhaust, a leaned out Thermoquad, an economy minded cam grind, and a whopping 8.2:1 compression ratio. I don't like trying to guess hp numbers, but I believe that my New Yorker is putting around 190 hp to the ground, as it moves good for being 5,000 lbs of massive uni-body luxury car.

  • man mr layhe would love that car..his got "instant covertabled" into a "shitmobile"

  • I don't know shit about cars, i just know that i'm getting one of these in the next year or two after seeing this.

  • @Tsull123 Better take out a fuel loan if you plan to drive it often

  • @Tsull123 I hope you can afford 9 mpg.

  • From the good time when America was America, now this good time is gone, and so will America Soon.

  • @johnsenkenn We will take America back, just wait.

  • How's the gas mileage? I'm thinking about buying my friend's New Yorker, I forget what year but I think it's between '74 and '78.

  • @666789443 15 mph highway, more or less depending on my foot. In the city it is not very good (it is a 5000 lb car with a 7.2 liter engine), but dang fun! I run 2300 rpm at 60 due to undersized BFG's (245/60/15) and American Racing wheels now. My New Yorker could really benefit from a lockup or overdrive transmission. I get stares, thumbs up, compliments, and funny looks from Prius drivers!

  • i rather have a old chysler than a rice car i enjoy this video

i hope your not gonna do in burn outs wash and wax here well alberto

  • Beautiful! Is it the 400 cui or the 440?

  • Wow, the thing has great top end

  • That appears to me more like 310HP or more. I don't care what's said about the torque that heavy machine would have left most firebirds/camaros in the dust starting from a rolling speed like that. Oh yea c'mon and destroy me for saying that-lol-

  • Gorgeous car...wow I love the throaty sound of it upon flooring it...Too bad it didnt have "Rich Corinthian leather" :)

  • It would be cool to have a car like that but at the same time I'd hate to drive it thinking how much gas I'm wasting.

Man does that thing have some get up and go!

  • American luxury at its best!

  • Ok like what the he'll I was so shocked to see that beautiful boat fly

  • Now you see why 383/440-powered police cars were so popular ;-)

  • Nice ride.

I like the 70's cars. Specially the biggest ones!

    Have a Mark IV myself.

  • too bad its limited to only 100 mph :(

  • @MHASSANF Oh, it goes much faster, but no point, as the speedometer only reads to 100, and the car floats down the road so smooth, it is hard to get a feel of the road at breakneck speed. With the 2.76 rear gear, and 1:1 final drive of the 3 speed torqueflite, this beast should be able to reach 130 before the rpms get too high. I guess the only way to know for sure would be to have a gps, and I do not have one, or get pulled over and ask the cop how fast I was going i guess.. XD

  • @aboomanation i dove a 78 new yorker a few times and it had some serious power. it had a rebuilt 426 hemi in it with a nice intake and headers. 0-60 in this thing was crazy for such a giant mass of a car. it makes me want one even more

  • Beautiful cars...!!

Mine is stored for vinterseason, but will out on the road as soon the snow leaves...

Regards Bjørg og Svend Erik Thorstensen.

  • man that car sounds like a beast.i see you get good acceleration also.

  • how hard was it to put those headers on your doba?i still got the stock b.s.

  • @mellonsed With the headers I have on my doba, after removing the old factory exhaust manifolds, the tie rod had to be removed, as well as the factory shift linkage. That is where I had to go for a floor shifter. Mine is an old cable floor shifter from B&M. The tie rod goes through the headers when it is all done. I wish I knew what brand my headers are, but I bought them used as a strapped for cash high school student. There may be a brand that does not interfere with the shift linkage.

  • @mellonsed My best friend owns a 1979 Cordoba, he also had to remove the column shift linkage to get his headers in. The ones he has are Hooker headers. He put in a new B&M cable floor shifter. The sound of headers on a small block mopar engine is nothing short of spectacular! 8) His channel is Thinkinman79 here on youtube. Check it out.

  • sweet ride ,what mods you got on your car?

  • @mellonsed The New Yorker has an all stock bottom end other than a new timing set, with an Edelbrock Intake,Edelbrock 750cfm mechanical secondary carb, and Edelbrock valve covers and air cleaner assembly. The exhaust manifolds from the factory remain, just 2 inch glasspack dual exhaust setup installed by the previous owner. Also 8.5 mm plug wires, plain old copper spark plugs, and an orange ignition box.

  • It's the top of the town!

  • Sweet! I miss driving a vehicle with a long hood out in front. I've been mostly a GM guy, but I sure would love to get a hold of one of these old boats too.

The only thing though. If I kicked it down like that I wouldn't be watching the speedometer. I'd be watching the gas gauge!

  • @JeffN727 I was always a GM guy, I got a cheap Chrysler Cordoba when I turned 16, and have changed my ways to mopar since. XD I do like all of the older cars though, from Studebaker to Pontiac and all in between. The prices of clean 70's Chryslers is still in a climbing stage, better buy one now while they are relatively cheap, before the mass majority get demo derbied. These C bodies are more rare every day. As far as gasoline use, literally, IT SUCKS!

  • nice ride man

  • @HAVOKTR Thanks! Glad people like it, makes it worth while to post videos of this stuff.
