Um, Not to support killing the cat or anything, but outdoor cats are cold-blooded killers and the fault shouldn't be placed on the owner of a bird if the bird was on his property.

I'd also like to say that dogs are less freeloaders than cats, because they actually consider themselves part of the social/family group and can be trained to help with a variety of tasks.
