  • If an Acela Express train was late I would be pissed because it's my favorite Amtrak train on the NEC! I've seen it before but haven't ridden on it! I want to ride it so bad!

  • They are almost never late, but it does happen sometimes.

  • When I was at Newark today the Crescent (Train 19) to New Orleans was 50 minutes late & a Regional train to Boston was 1 hour late! The Amtrak trains on the NEC that are mostly late are the long distance trains, especially the Crescent.

  • The only thing that would cause a Regional to be late is an issue with a passenger or something malfunctioning on the train. Regional 141 (a busy southbound morning train from Springfield, MA) was having engine problems the other day (most likely with the pantograph) and ended up having to cancel the train near Stamford, CT and put the people on 95. That's something that could cause a train to run an hour late. Even still, 95 only ended up being around 24 minutes late.

  • thats nothing i waited for a train that was 2 hours late

  • That's true. I was at Newark Penn Station today & the Crescent (Train 20) was 45 min. late from New Orleans & A Keystone train from Harrisburg was 8 minutes late!

  • They Keystones aren't usually late since I believe Amtrak owns the line it runs on. 8 minutes isn't that bad anyway. There's usually AT LEAST one day in the week where the Silver Service is over an hour or more late. That's actually an improvement to their on time rate before. I don't know how bad trains like the Cardinal or the Crescent are but I know that all the long distance services are similar to the Silver Service. They're usually a bit late.

  • I want to take an Acela Express train to Newark or New York myself but unfortunately I have to catch one from Philadelphia since they don't stop at Trenton! I also want to ride on either a Regional or a Keystone train.

  • Nice one, murjax! Looks like you enjoyed your trip on Amtrak Regional #174. How were the seats by the way?

  • The seats were good thanks. The Regional is a good train. It's reliable and fast. The Acela is even better (I need to ride it sometime). I would stay away from the long distance trains because they aren't so good and reliable. They're slow and usually late. Unfortunatly, I have to take the Silver Meteor in order to get up there. At least it's better than flying. :)
