Want smart education?

Then empower kids to learn how to be entrepreneurs early on in life. Schools should teach the subject, after all these kids are either going to work for a company (profit or non profit) or create their own path by owning businesses. Let's really teach them real life lessons. Why do we still have to follow the industrial age style of education while we are in digital, service- oriented age?

This was the best question of the night. Of course, being a teacher, I might be a little biased, lol. Still, out of all the NCLB questions that were sent in, I'm glad this one was chosen. It was superb. I'm just sorry that all the candidates were not given the opportunity to respond.

I spoke to DK personally about NCLB in '04; I drove all the way from Palmdale to Orange County to do so. Based on what he shared with me then, I don't think he'd support reauthorization today. He was appalled at the focus on testing, blaming, and punishing; he's focused on a position of support, not control.

It needs to be scrapped. Loads of schools did not make AYP yet only the poor schools that must accept Title One money are subject to the sanctions and restructuring. The achievement gap goes untalked about in non Title One Schools. Meanwhile teachers and students in Title One schools are strong armed into following mandates that are neither scientifically sound nor good for children.

Good question...I think by now everyone who pays attention realizes that NCLB is a backwards system that rewards schools who don't need funding and punishes schools who need it most. I was pleased with all of the Democrats' answers about how NCLB needs to be scrapped and new initiatives have to be adopted.

I wonder if the Republicans would follow suit or continue to protect their president by continuing to support this ineffective piece of legislation.
