I'd be happier if both participants had Ph.D.s in Theology. Catholicism is a strongly theological religion, and close knowledge of the Bible is no substitute for the ability to understand how the Biblical *data* are inter-related & controlled by other branches of theology than the purely Biblical.
Academic degrees can't save, but they *are* evidence that a certain level of intellectual competence in a subject has been attained.
