The couplings and nozzle are 1 1/2. The larger hose gives more volume. But saved us from having to buy all new adapters and applioances. Also many thousands of older building with fire cabinates have 1 1/2 connections.

I've always wondered this, if you have a 1 3/4 line what nozzle do you put on it, because there isnt a 1 3/4 nozzle?
