  • Just as lame as always. To bad he would go on years later to ruin the tonight show.

  • I used to think that Leno was once funny and then went soft. Wrong. He was never funny.

  • Like Jansen didn't grow in the depression....

  • This guy has a show on NBC now!

  • Woah at first I thought he was Gregg Rolie from Journey XD I was like "wtf? Oh it's Jay Leno...that makes more sense"

  • it would be tight if he still dressed and looked like this....

  • still wasn't that funny

  • Carson actually never found Jay funny. His bitch of an agent is what ensured his ties with the Tonight Show.

  • Oh my

  • @garagsale: Leno had no idea what was going on. NBC told him Conan agreed to the new slot before they asked, and he's tried to leave himself a few times - he can't go until his contract is up.

  • Whats that thing on Leno's head?

  • It's funny how many people blame Jay Leno for "taking the show back". It's pretty clear that NBC fucked up and it's neither Leno nor Conan's fault. I find both men funny and enjoyed both of their tenures, and although Conan deserves to continue Tonight, I'm not going to yell obscenities at Leno for being the one who got the show.

The clip itself here is pretty good, Leno at his best. Weird seeing him with such bushy hair.

  • @Jvm181

please. Leno sabatoged The Tonight Show with Conan O'brien by knowingly giving Conan a God awful lead in. Leno never wanted to give up the show nor does he ever want to retire. Leno is pathetically clinging on to the tonight show because he has nothing else going for him. The only people who find him appealing are baby boomers who like tired ,old, repetative humor.

  • What did Leno, specifically, do?

  • And now, Leno caused Johnny to roll over in his grave by taking the Tonight Show back after his time was up. Johnny would never have done such a thing to Jay like Jay did to Conan.

  • WOW...read all of these comments. Leno is taking a (well-deserved) beating.

  • Bleh...

  • "Johnny Carson inteviews funny man"

    Eh

  • Classic ASSHOLE

  • Jay Lenos luckiest day on earth was the invention of the applause sign.

  • oh my god the hair....my eyes! my eyes!

  • he sucked even worse then!

  • Wow thats some crazy hair... lol love jay

  • Carson should have taken his show back from Leno after 7 and half months.

Leno is not that funny while Carson was King of Late Night.

  • I LOVEEEE the funny night shows! They're soooo enjoyable! ;))))))

  • rodney dangerfield makes jay look like the sub par wanna be he truly is..

  • Leno is the best!

  • damn the chin looks even bigger!

  • jay was thin! LMAO

  • yeah, and his hair was black holy crap !

  • Yeah, Craig should move up. He's really good but a little too late for me most of the time. And Dave's been done for a few years now. Problem is that Dave basically owns Craig's show.

  • the comedian jay is ok, but he sucks at hosting

  • Nice hair. Where did you get it, at the dollar store?

  • i find lettermen kind of creepy and his top ten gets older everytime. not a fan of letterman. letterman should retire and craig should take over the late show! for goodness sake leno owns him every single night!

  • letterman makes more money than leno though

  • that's because letterman is the producer of his show

  • 2 things I will never understand in this world. How Jesus built the world in 6 days, and how Jay Leno got the tonight show...and anyone around when Johnny had it wondered the same thing.

  • That Jesus building the world thing... that was joke right?

  • no isn't

  • yawn

  • Ever hear the Sarah Bernhardt sleeping with Leno story (handcuffs, chains, etc.) What a freak

  • Big Suit, Big chin, AND, Big Hair

  • Jay wuz Stylin'!

  • Gotta love that green suit...

  • LOOK AT HOW THIN HE WAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Fuck Letterman!That clown!

    Leno Rocks.

  • HOLLA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • leno the man

  • The jokes weren't good but he bought that big voice on out of nowhere. Even at that age his personality makes him stand... still not as good as letterman though.

  • It doesn't matter what kind of material Jay delivers- his personality is so defined, most people will watch him every weeknight no matter how mediocre his jokes might be...or not depending on his writers for fresh material during a strike, either.

  • Awesome. I love Leno. Great clip!

  • I will say, however, that he has said better jokes...lol...not my favorite.

  • 1977!!! This really is historic. I was born and grew up in the '80s so this is kind of like a history lesson of what the '70s were like. COOL!

  • Leave Jay ALONE. So his brand of comedy doesn't suit you, big bloody deal. Quite acting like he's friggin' Adolf Hitler or something, jeez. I'm tired of people hating on Jay. If you don't like his jokes, go watch someone else. Letterman is child when it comes to losing the Tonight Show to Jay, which is why Jay continuously beats him in the ratings and kept going strong for years with the little support he had. Leno is a good man so don't base his character on some lousy jokes you didn't enjoy.

  • Hey Jay, If you're reading this, defend yourself!

  • lol

  • "We hope you enjoy this clip...In it, Johnny Carson inteviews funny man, Jay Leno. It's one of our favorite moments in Classic Television."

That is quite a teaser for 54 seconds of standup & no interview.

  • YES!! kirjapan - - "Letterman is a legend... he's the best... Leno sucks...

  • according to you

  • I cant watch Leno he is a suck up to his guests

  • wow, he sucked just as bad back then too.

  • Conan still kicks this lame jokesters ass.

  • leno wrong choice for tonight show --- leno is the worst with guests stupid questions boring.

  • Letterman is a legend... he's the best... Leno sucks

  • The thing about Leno - he never got any better - still just as lame. At least Letterman improves with age...

  • Amen to that, we only got 2 years of Leno left. Letterman forever!

  • Great clip. Thanks :) Leno is still the king of monologues.
