  • Tell ya what, those are actually pretty quick for such an old bus!

  • love those leylands mate! Reminds me of my latter schooldays. I used to sit at the back to hear the engine and that fan roar lmao! None left down here in surrey, think they met their maker.

  • Seeking help to trace the history of an Atlantean Park royal 70s 680 Roe built

    Grateful for any info.

I am from the Wirral, now in Australia with the bus. I was told it was a Leeds bus and was imported for the film industry here.

  • how long have the leyland olympian have been serving the upper counties in the UK

  • did the bus go under spagetti junction?

  • lots of these are in were in south wales being used for school transport between '95 and '02 by edwards coaches

  • Northern Counties Motor and Engineering Company based in Wigan (no longer in existance). A lot of buses were done this style for Manchester/SELNEC.

  • This is the Greater Manchester design built by Northern Counties. I think that the biggest proportion of Atlanteans possibly had this body

  • Trust me these are in regular service until the forseeable future. Now is the best time to see them out on strange workings as it is our busy period. Don't forget we have two ex Prestons as well. Catch 'em while you can!

  • i think the roar from the engine. is the fan i thhink its driven by the engine for cooling

  • yeah it is, belt driven

  • Are these beasts still being used in regular service? We used to have loads round Rotherham & Sheffield but they got replaced by Dennis Dominators & they got replaced by Volvo B7 double deckers.

  • For now they do appear on the peak time services from Birmingham, but I don't think they will be appearing as regulars before too long, have heard that they are getting replaced.

  • Good it still has the GMT standard interior for the time. Stagecoach ones rarely had the interior changed to the horrible stripes and the did sell them onto other operators.

  • Memories of Manchester here! A good old northen but the Leyland Atleanten Built and bodied in good old Lancashire! No 1705 in a total of 1765 1st generation SELNEC/GMT buses with a Northern counties body. Shame these buses are no longer running in Manchester.

Great roar from the Leyland 680 engine sadly missed at least the ex Stagecoach ones went into further service elsewhere while most of the First Bus ones are now long gone in the knackers yard! I would love to own one of these own buses.

  • is it possible to send as an audio file?

  • might be able to, have to give us a couple of weeks for me to get it back onto my hard disk, I have currently deleted it off

  • I can not believe i have found a video of this bus, what a awesome bus, thanks man.

  • sounds like a beast does it have a gardner engine?

  • No it has a Leyland Engine
