I like your interpretation of the song. I thought I'd share my interpretation too.

Every time I hear this song, I think of a boy who wants to escape into the city. So he starts thinking of the city life and what not and he starts seeing the place he lives in morph into the city he'd like to be in. I guess that means that though the transition will be big, he will be ready for it cuz he already is living the life he wants to, just not in the 'right place'.
