Nobody stuck with Gears 1 or 2 because the games were easy. Apart from their brokenness, both games had a huge learning curve. I don't think Gow3 allows new players to develop the same level of Gnasher skill that I developed in the first two gears games, mainly because of Retro/SOS. I loved Gears because of the Gnasher, but since I'm smart I have to AR a lot more, which lacks the same adrenaline as an old fashioned Gnasher-battle; the game is less fun (than gow1 or 2) because of retro/SOS.
Sawed Off isn't a problem anymore but at the time of this video it was a wind up. And what's worse then a whole team of Sawed Off users? Somebody on your team stealing your downs with a Sawed Off even though there are 2 other enemies running towards him - some noob did this to me yesterday and for the first time in 3 years I actually made the effort to give him a negative review on XBL - player skill - player unfamiliar with game lol
@gstfullfocus that negative review just helps you since matchmaking tries not to put you with the person. If you wanted to decrease his stars you needed to go for the "Unsporting Conduct" option since that fits the crime that's what I do when i have players steal multiple kills from me. I let the first 2 or 3 slide depending if i think was an accident or not and if it continues I will then know his doing it on to boost his K/D.

1-2 Retro and Gnasher players mixed with some 3 Lancer and Gnashers is unstoppable. If the sawed of fails, retro and lancer / gnasher mop up easily. Sawed of can be countered if either 1 guy is using it or everyone ( As then you can back off ) but a mixture is unstoppable

I for one love using the gnasher a lot but i go and use the sawed-off sometimes and to tell you the truth the sawed-off also requires skill to properly use just like the gnasher because the range is not there and you have to think of when to use and not and how to use it specially right now that they nerfed the range. @savage2833 Well they don't play gears 3 because they don't have the skill to avoid the sawed-off its not that hard just check your corners and keep your distance. Also its not just shoot and kill if they don't know how to use it you wont get a kill and if the opponent is dumb enough to just stay there after the person wasted there sawed-off shot then its just stupid. I have had people shoot me like that and there out of range i just shoot back with my gnasher or lancer and bam problem solved.

@savage2833 WHAT??? your actually posting that. The online in gears 2 was horrible they took all the good things from gears 1 and broke them and then tried to fix them to some extent. Do you not remember the forums filled with legitimate complaints of several different issue plugging the game. The only time gears 2 was good and fair was in a LAN party because the online was just crap even after all the updates the online was not that good and you compering that game to gears 3.
@xITriWolfIx skill? Interesting choice in words. I think the sawed off requires a good sense of spatial awareness and timing. It does not require veru much aiming demands which is what most people would associate with skill.
@arCtiCvBi I get your point but all weapons have a different skill curve to master some are easy to use others more difficult but you can't just say that the sawed-off does not require skill as you said you need spatial awareness and timing as well as other factors that come in to it. I know that it does not require you to aim because the whole idea of the sawed-off is to be very close to them and to know when and where to use it. Your a pro player you of all people should understand this.
@xITriWolfIx I can say that...it requires very little skill to "master." Spatial awareness is essentially learning a map and timing is basically a trial and error of when to push. There's not much to the weapon. I don't understand the whole "you're a pro player you of all people should understand this." Of course I understand it, I just laid out exactly what it requires to use in the previous comment. Like a few of my other commentaries, check some of the recent ones.

Also if yous saying that it requires low skill why then when epic released the statistics for each weapon when the game came out, the sawed-off had very low numbers in kills and the
Lancer had very high ones along with the other AR and the Gnasher. The main reason for epic to chose to nerf the gun is because people were complaining.
@arCtiCvBi Also check my previous comments when I was replying to savage2833. I think the points I brought up are very valid as well as the main point stating that it does require skill. I have a question for you. Have you used the sawed-off at all or are you so pissed off at the gun that you wont use it? Test out the gun on a ranked match so you can see that it does require skill to use. Aiming is not the only factor in skill and if you think it is then I wont be able to change your mind.

I'd suggest catching yourself up on the series. The gun was nerfed after the video as testament to my reasoning (then) and yes I've used it. You would do yourself wonders catching up on my vids :)

@MrOliGames well lets start off with some simple facts. The first of which is the one shot range of the sawed off was reduced after this video was created. Second in this video, which is 5 months old, I clearly stated that "backing up" is a valid defense.
I play all the guns in Gears 3. There is no specific favorite gun. But default for me is Gnasher and (Retro or Hammerburst).
I think all guns are well balanced ... Remember ALOT (I mean ALOT) of people abuse the Gnasher and basically keep using it which is not good for the game (Aparently these people will win most times unless one guy counter them with Sawed off or something else).
Switching guns strategy is the best for the game. Start by Gnasher and you can change to Sawed off llater
@BravoMo1982 The damnable sawn-off was rather OP at the beginning (I know, I used and use the thing for Retro synergy)
But when they nerfed that range, they should have buffed that reload too.
Just by a little bit, not to campaign levels or anything, it's just that that reload was balanced for that range (although roving parties broke THAT via fire alternation)
I just hate when people use the gnasher just like a sawed-off. They run all the way up to me when I'm expecting strafe/wallbounce and it throws me off so much. -.-
true about the lancer, its very good when you definitely want to win or annoy the opposing team in my opinion :p it annoys me when I go up against a full team of just lancer but anyway you kan also deal with the sawed-off with a gnasher by simply downing them b4 they get to you or by wallbouncing your way out of its range witch may be difficult at times even if your very good at wallbouncing but idk i rather gnasher all the way and show noobs how its done !! :DD

I don't think they should nerf the sawed off they should make it more powerful by adding a 2nd shot or speeding up the reload or something and make it a power weapon!

The sawed off is actually easy to beat. What I hate is when you use lancers, retro lancers, and hammerbursts that people scream like little girls. Saying you lancing noob, this is ridicolous the lancer has been in gears one and two it was useless in both games, now gears of war 3 has made it useful, some people still want to play the dumb gears way of just using shotguns. I also hate that people call hammerburst users modders because of their amazing tapping skills why can't they accept it?
@nmmmable Gears has ALWAYS been a shotgun oriented game and that's why a lot of people who played gears 1 and 2, complain. But I don't think it's so much that people hate the lancer etc., it's the stopping power that comes with it. I mean you can be roadie running straight at somebody shooting a lancer and you will practically stand still! Even if you try and side roll, there is stopping power included. If they take that out or lessen it, i think people wouldn't be as mad.

They patched the sawed off. That video showing the sawed off having a greater gib range than the gnasher is no longer accurate. They reduced its gib range. I think it's about the same as the gnasher now. It still needs to be nerfed furthur IMO.

Sawed-off users should be glad they can get a kill with it to begin with. The gun has a shameful origin and it was created as a hand-holding device. If you still want to wear a bib that's your problem. It was designed to work only within melee range and that's what it now does. You may actually be forced to learn the game properly as your noob cannon is not coming back.
Both Cliff Bleszinski and Rod Fergusson both said that it was for newer players, or for those not good at the gnasher. Not only that, veterans of the series all know that the gnasher has a huge skill curve to separate the pros from the noobs. With the sawed off, you can walk into a room, not even look directly at a person, and send them kingdom come. And if you miss, then you just run out of there to reload and try again.
the sawed off is a weapon for veteran players. They can get an enormous amount of kills. It kills in one shot. You have to look directly at players to kill them and the gnasher can kill in one shot as well and you can send them to kingdom cum as well. If you miss you are a noob.

No, you actually don't have to be directly facing someone to kill them. It fires in a wave. These guys have done videos testing it.

If many hardcore players don't like the sawed-off, Epic should just create a hardcore or MLG playlist that excludes it. I really don't care if I die by it. I think it's pretty awesome seeing your character blown to bits for miles.
Am I the only one who used the sawed off in the beginning but after playing the game for a bit finally learned how to gnasher? The whole purpose of it was so you could get used to the game and then switch up.

Personally I don't get mad when I die via SO because the person using it has admitted they have less skill than me simply by choosing that gun. Let them use the no skill SO for the easy kills, I'll end up killing them more with my Lancer and Gnasher combo eventually because I have skills :) Dont get mad at SO users guys not everyone has the patience to master a skillful weapon so they need an easy "I win" weapon, however shallow the victory may be in the eyes of a skilled player.

Just keep your range and make him waste his shot to take down a sawed off whore. Lancer is a bit overpowered if used correctly. Only players I seem to dislike atm is sawed off users who camps on the edge of a wall and have crazy wallbounce skills.

@mps927 ArCtyC was a professional long before the Onza was around. Nothing wrong with using a different controller that doesn't have any illegal mods just because you like the feel better.
Although honestly ArCtyC I can't see how you use the Onza, I played with mine for a month and a half and I just couldn't get used to it, it still felt weird. I'm hopefully going to get a custom controller before the next GoW event :D

Haven't gotten too much SOS bs, just the same magnetic chainsaw trash from gow2 but i didn't know about the lancer multiplier. I'm done with hammerburst, it always conveniently runs dry a shot away from my kill, and someone steals it. The Retro is beast if you burst fire.
Rarely even see SOS being used but I always play tdm.

arctyc i get why you dont like the ss. it does not develope a players skill and promotes a lame way of playing, all in all ss is a cheap shot. but theres a good site to it aswell, hopefully it will help new people get into the game. without ss total newbies would be getting smashed and will probably quit the game. with the ss they might stay a little longer, and surely some will even stay with the game and hopefully realize the ss's flaws and move on to the gnasher. i say the more the merrier!
I think the strongest gun is retro-lancer the lancer seems strong but when kill your opponent your ammo is so low you have to fuckin load the gun for at least 21 seconds
I am mainly a hammerburst user, but I use lancer from time to time when the sawed-off comes out to play. I've always felt that the lancer is far harder to use than the hammerburst because all you need for the hammerburst is a quick trigger finger.

Realistic?! A real sawed offs barrel is 1.2 inches less then a foot, a full shot gun (not sawed offed) is just under 5 feet. The full shot gun has a real effective range of around 15 feet, so if 5 feet of barrel give 15 feet of range then 1.2 feet will give 3 feet, in the beta and first retail before updates the sawed off did 6 feet. So fuck off with your realistic shit and get your facts right.
The sawed off is is useless now. People who get killed by it needs to quit there bitching. Sure when the game first came out the SOS was ridiculous in its range. But i am a Gnasher player and i must say using the SOS as it is now. The gun is terrible and will hardly hit jack shit. They need to keep the range the same and keep the SOS spread or they should bring the SOS how it use to be before the updates were applied to Gears 3 and make it a power weapon
um i use all guns but the hammerburst but i have no problems with the sawed off with or against it, ive clutched a 8v1 in tdm sandbar with just the sawed off so i say hell yeah

@xITriWolfIx I can say that...it requires very little skill to "master." Spatial awareness is essentially learning a map and timing is basically a trial and error of when to push. There's not much to the weapon. I don't understand the whole "you're a pro player you of all people should understand this." I have a question for you. Have you used the sawed-off at all or are you so pissed off at the gun that you wont use it? Test out the gun on a ranked match so you can see that it does require skill to use. Aiming is not the only factor in skill and if you think it is then I wont be able to change your mind.

I play all the guns in Gears 3. There is no specific favorite gun. But default for me is Gnasher and (Retro or Hammerburst).
I think all guns are well balanced ... Remember ALOT (I mean ALOT) of people abuse the Gnasher and basically keep using it which is not good for the game (Aparently these people will win most times unless one guy counter them with Sawed off or something else).
Switching guns strategy is the best for the game. Start by Gnasher and you can change to Sawed off llater

But when they nerfed that range, they should have buffed that reload too.

The sawed off is actually easy to beat. What I hate is when you use lancers, retro lancers, and hammerbursts that people scream like little girls. Saying you lancing noob, this is ridicolous the lancer has been in gears one and two it was useless in both games, now gears of war 3 has made it useful, some people still want to play the dumb gears way of just using shotguns. I also hate that people call hammerburst users modders because of their amazing tapping skills why can't they accept it?

But I don't think it's so much that people hate the lancer etc., it's the stopping power that comes with it. I mean you can be roadie running straight at somebody shooting a lancer and you will practically stand still! Even if you try and side roll, there is stopping power included. If they take that out or lessen it, i think people wouldn't be as mad.

They patched the sawed off. That video showing the sawed off having a greater gib range than the gnasher is no longer accurate. They reduced its gib range. I think it's about the same as the gnasher now. It still needs to be nerfed furthur IMO.

Sawed-off users should be glad they can get a kill with it to begin with. The gun has a shameful origin and it was created as a hand-holding device. If you still want to wear a bib that's your problem. It was designed to work only within melee range and that's what it now does. Both Cliff Bleszinski and Rod Fergusson both said that it was for newer players, or for those not good at the gnasher. Not only that, veterans of the series all know that the gnasher has a huge skill curve to separate the pros from the noobs. With the sawed off, you can walk into a room, not even look directly at a person, and send them kingdom come. And if you miss, then you just run out of there to reload and try again.

the sawed off is a weapon for veteran players. They can get an enormous amount of kills. It kills in one shot. You have to look directly at players to kill them and the gnasher can kill in one shot as well and you can send them to kingdom cum as well. If you miss you are a noob.

Personally I don't get mad when I die via SO because the person using it has admitted they have less skill than me simply by choosing that gun. Let them use the no skill SO for the easy kills, I'll end up killing them more with my Lancer and Gnasher combo eventually because I have skills :) Dont get mad at SO users guys not everyone has the patience to master a skillful weapon so they need an easy "I win" weapon, however shallow the victory may be in the eyes of a skilled player.

I am mainly a hammerburst user, but I use lancer from time to time when the sawed-off comes out to play. I've always felt that the lancer is far harder to use than the hammerburst because all you need for the hammerburst is a quick trigger finger.

Realistic?! A real sawed offs barrel is 1.2 inches less then a foot, a full shot gun (not sawed offed) is just under 5 feet. The full shot gun has a real effective range of around 15 feet, so if 5 feet of barrel give 15 feet of range then 1.2 feet will give 3 feet, in the beta and first retail before updates the sawed off did 6 feet. So fuck off with your realistic shit and get your facts right.

The sawed off is is useless now. People who get killed by it needs to quit there bitching. Sure when the game first came out the SOS was ridiculous in its range. But i am a Gnasher player and i must say using the SOS as it is now. The gun is terrible and will hardly hit jack shit. They need to keep the range the same and keep the SOS spread or they should bring the SOS how it use to be before the updates were applied to Gears 3 and make it a power weapon

um i use all guns but the hammerburst but i have no problems with the sawed off with or against it, ive clutched a 8v1 in tdm sandbar with just the sawed off so i say hell yeah

I use the sawed off and the retro all the time. stop bitching cuz it killed you becouse as long as your dead and dying over and over again its gonna wash rinse repeat.
