Yeah, except for all those religions where a man can have multiple wives. Like certain Christians sects...you know, the religion you support. Also, for life? Yeah right. Try for life 50% of the time. Real nice statistic there.
It makes me so angry these self righteous assholes think they have the right to judge how other people live. They try to force others to be like them by using fear. Everyone should have same right to marry the person they love.
Thats because your stupid fucking fairly tail book oppressed people that long. I love my partner who I have been with for 8 years now. How does committing yourself to another person affect you and your life? Why are you so interested in controlling other peoples lives? And how exactly will two people being married RUIN america?
Rick Warren fails. He clearly has not heard of eros .... which was the concept of love in greek culture. It was their concept of love but, it was not about the gender but, the ideal between people.
The bible says marriage is... the bible says marriage is... the bible says marriage is
So marriage is a religious institution? Then Government should get out of the marriage business completely and government should not recognize any marriage since it's a religious institution. It's called a separation of church and state.
Why do you even care about a book full of hate and magical lies? Can't you just get along without it? If you compare the bible to what we know today, not 2k years ago, it is a pretty hard story to follow unless you think like a 8 year old. Grow up and treat people like friends and stop trying to control everyone with a bible.
Mike, why do you think christianinty is "the religion" and what makes you think you are following the right god and even if there is a god why the F should we worship it if it made us so imperfect and hateful? There have been many profits other than the Israelite Jesus, Pat Roberts talks to god, Robert Schuller talks to god. Mohammad, Joesph Smith, ect. Why don't you follow all of them?
@mikecp23 - You have had a busy night defending this evil man who has repeatedly lied about what he has said on homosexuality and continues to say the most horrid, cruel, un-Christian things. This video is completely shameful, and your dozens or one line replies defending him only drag you down into his moral vacuum.
first off, i DONT agree with gay marriage AT ALL. secondly, i dont trust "mega" church pastors like this. he supported prop 8 and then he turned against it??? WHAT KIND OF CHRISTIAN ARE YOU?? he sets a real bad example as the wishy-washy christian. christians are not supposed to be wishy washy with our faith!! the Bible says homsexuality is wrong.....no matter how you feel about it!! so this guy is the biggest hypocrit ive ever seen. AND he supports obama!! JERK!! some christian! ha!
Where in the hell is he getting the number "5000 years"? Is he talking about the Ancient Sumarians? Because the bible hasnt been around that long. Just because the Bible consists of the "old testament", Which is the sumarian legend of creation, does NOT make the bible 5000 years old. And "2% of americans" are LGBT? Its actually 7%. Rick Warren is just another Pundit in prophets clothes.
I'm no fan of RIck Warren, but according to your standards maybe we should take away the tax exemption from Obama's hate-filled church and every other church that gets involved in politics. Those raise the red flag before Warren's Saddlesore Church.
I agree with you all the way, any church that enters the political spectrum to influence the country's direction should loose their tax exemption. I just have a special hate for Rick Warren cause I live very close to his bullshit church and I know the kind of person he is and the kind of people who go there.
What's this about a 5,000-year-old definition of marriage? For fuck's sake, the Bible isn't even that old, and it talks about how the Israelite forefathers were polygamists.
Yes, accept this is a private contract between two adults. It is not a religious or moral issue. The bible is just magical stories that incite hate. christian, jewish, islam, ect. All theist religions preach intillerance. Live and let live.
the founding fathers clearly stated that the constitution was intended to protect the rights of the minority from the members of the majority, so yes, we should let 2% of the population have equal, and fair protection under the law.
I did not make it up, and I do not plan on giving you a link... do what I did, and sit down and read some literature. I'd suggest looking beyond just the constitution, and reading some other documents written by the framers in order to better understand their intentions. A good book that has the actual documents, and explains them in lay terms is the Heritage Guide to the constitution. It's written from a very neutral stance.
Woah, woah, woah.... Every single culture on the planet for the past 5,000 years has had monogamous marriage? Have you read the Bible? I seem to remember a lot of polygamy going on in the early years. There are many, many different kinds of marriage practices throughout history and the world. To say that everyone has always been heterosexually monogamous only shows pure ignorance and lack of caring.
I pray that the LGBT community will soon be able to marry legally. I'm a Christian, BTW.
"Every single culture on the planet for the past 5,000 years has had monogamous marriage?" Who said that? What's being said is that NO human society in 5000 years has EVER had "same sex marriage".
If the guy in the video accidentally said "one man one woman" in that context... so what? There has still been zero cultures, religions, etc with "gay marriage". Period.
Apart from the fact that there used to be church-sanctioned same-sex unions, a few hundred years ago. But hey, let's not bring facts into the rhetoric.
Snicker. It's always amusing when a long-disproven John Boswell thesis is stated as fact. I notice that you have to use the circumloction "same-sex unions" since there is zero evidence of anything like a "gay marriage", Church-sanctioned or otherwise.
It is? On what basis do you support this statement from? Is this your own philosophical opinion? If we all evolved from monkeys, aren't we all just animals?
Its called a democracy/monarch. Try taking a political science class at a local community college or something, ignorance is not bliss. This will help in your confusion. :)
if i wrote a book and claimed that it was the bible and said that only gays and lesbians could get married then would you listen. You are a jerk, they're just people and should have the same rights as everyone else, you jerk
One man, and one woman, FOR LIFE? Given that John McCain failed at this definition of marriage, I really don't give a shit about what he thinks about it.
How is marriage so fucking sacred? If you can do it completely shitfaced at three in the morning in a Vegas "chapel", it isn't sacred to me.
"Marriage" has always been STATE sponsored since it's inception as a subjugation and taxation tool.
Being LEGALLY "married" does not mean you are automatically a "good" person or kind, just or anything else. It means that you are listed on the STATE'S books for accounting purposes.
The state has been in bed with organized religion for centuries - they work hand-in-hand to maintain both their money and power.
God didn't create marriage, people created marriage, we should be able to do what we want with it. If you have a problem with it, you don't have to recognize it
Feel free to practice bias and bigotry wherever you find an outlet for your hate. As far as the laws of the land go, such unfairness can not and will not be accepted.
No more restricted public places, no more seperation according to "class", no more double standards favoring one and discriminating against another.
Those days are in the past. If you like to live in an unfair society, you'll need a time travel ticket to the past. The future is for those who can get along with everyone.
yes, Rick Warren, the moral majority throughout the world has repressed the minority for 5000 years... what exactly is your point?? continue the repression?? you lying douche bag.
that was an email message sent to his church members after they asked his opinion on the matter. he has never gone publicly for or against gay marriage.
I have posted 8 videos which explain how heterosexuality is sick, sinful and bestial. They are "Heterosexuality is a Sickness", "God punishes Heterosexuals", "Heterosexual Terrorism", "The Ugliness of Heterosexuality", etc. Watch them. They are revolutionary and convincing.
Here is a guy who has duped the Christian community with his book the "purpose driven life" when after the election he back tracks what he says here on the Larry King show and supports a Marxist man names Barock Husein Obama yes the I said Marxist man!!!!!
Has Rick Warren ever read the US Constitution?..... I doubt it
RICK
WHAT DO YOU BELIEVE? AND WHAT ARE YOU WILLING TO STAND FOR?
He isn't for or against proposition 8 per say. He is trying to say that marriage needs to be defined, and that its original definition is a man and a woman, and so to say other wise goes against culture. Basically proposition 8 is going against the definition of marriage, not that he is against man and man/woman and woman.
You're not attacking homosexuality, nor are you changing anyone's sexual attractions. All you're doing is opposing equal rights and equal laws for gays.
Please call your fear what it is instead of insisting you're "saving humanity". Heterosexual marriage has become not much more than a pathetic joke. Are you afraid gays could do a whole lot better?
There are no reasons for banning gay marriage, only excuses. It's time to do away with hateful bias. Live and let live.
"William Eskridge, a Yale law professor, has written that anti-gay prejudice has been marked historically by three characteristics. These are: (1) hysterical demonization of gay people as dirty sexualized subhumans; (2) obsessional fears of gay people as conspiratorial and sexually predatory; and (3) narcissistic desires to reinforce stable heterosexual identity, by bashing gay people. The primary historical traits of homophobia are thus hysteria, obsession, and narcissism."
Rick Warren is indeed a hypocrite and spreads the "untruths" of the Gospel and Bible. He is indeed a sad case and tons of people are following him and his deception straight into Hell. Beware people, compare what the bible says versus MAN.
Funny, I just saw a Larry King interview that contradicts his statement here. I heard about the statement that Miss California said about gay marriage. I applaud her for standing up BRAVELY and TRUTHFULLY!
"They professed themselves wise, and became fools,..."
Paul is chronicling clergymen, not gentile misdeeds. The Church nurtured
the vise and blames others. Do we see and deny for status? Others have seen and questioned. Who chooses your steps and whom does it benefit? It is your mind, your heart and your choice.
Interesting..I just watched a video on Larry King where Rick claimed not to be a Prop 8 activist.Hmmm.sending letters out to other pastors seems like activism.
He's a horrible horrible liar, and it's a shame that so many people are misled to believe he's a moral person because he keeps thumping his little magic book.
RW supports prop 8 He has also stated he has not participated in any prop 8 event. That is not lying. He is not a hypocrite. Call him an activists if you want but he is only endorsing prop 8.
Rick Warren is the weakest man around. He's very seeker friendly, not teaching the truth of God's Word at all. I strongly urge folks to stay far away from this weak willed man. He's a sad case.
Please keep your religion out of my government. Ever since the 50's the nuts have come out. The founding fathers kept it out for a reason, to keep us free.
Turn the sound down, and look at Warren's face. He looks about to break down. I see an incredibly sad human being. I see immense sadness around his mouth and eyes. What does this mean?
not sure if that's a slip or a calculated sign to his people. The video is pretty sloppy. I thought the mega-churches were a little more polished than this. He comes off as a guy recovering from a six-day meth bender. Probably got some ass sex too.
yeah... and it's also him making false blanket statments about the "universal historical definition of marriage." there are so many cultures and religions where marriage was not 1 man 1 woman. often it was 1 man several women. that doesn't fit into rick warren's reality tho, so he excludes the fact.
hilarious! now he says he is reaching out to his fellow gay clergy on lary king. but friends, it's a little bit of wonderful. after iowa and vermont and obama, let him repent. he is afterall a businessman.
I'm just curious, can some one please please answer me why any one can say no to incest (after sterilization so no children are born with a disorder) or polygamy, if the sole argument for gay marriage is the so called "love" or the so called "human right"?
rick shame on you. your limited scope of understanding GOD and his love for all his children is so scary. This is the reason christianity has caused so many wars. NOT FOLLOWING JESUS. love thy neighbor, as thyself. Judge not, lest you be judged. SHAME ON YOU RICK WARREN.
Your understanding of Love must be derived from reality tv shows or Hollywood movies for you to assume God is OK with the gay movement. I wont claim you'rr not a Christian based on your comment, for Salvation is not based on works, but i can definitely assume you have quenched the Spirit, for His conviction seems to have been ignored by you. May be even worse, you may have been handed over to "the desires of your heart" - Romans 1:18-32 - you should really read this.
Hey Rick Warren - did you happen to see what you said on Larry King last Monday night, oh yeah you said that you never came out publicly against Prop 8. I am pretty sure you lied, guess you're going to Hell like I am since all sins are the same!
The only problem with people who insist that no religion supports gay marriage, is that everybody isn't religious. Even religious people believe different things. Marriage is a legal right not a religious. You can have religious ceremony if you like, but the law doesn't recognize marriages that take place in churches any more than it does two drunks who get hitched in Vegas. That is the straight marriage model you are defending.
You seem to know a lot about the legality of marriage. I'm just curious, can you please tellr me why any one can say no to incest (after sterilization so no children are born with a disorder) or polygamy, if the sole argument for gay marriage is the so called "love" or the so called "human right"? No one on this page seems to have an answer to it but everyone feels like they got something to say.
Every civilization going back 5,000 years? Hmm...I wonder what that means for those "civilizations" that have already recognized "same-sex marriage":
Belgium
Canada
The Netherlands
Norway
South Africa
Spain
Sweden
They're doomed. And the other 14 states with legal recognition in the form of civil unions? The apocalypse is upon them.
The world will be a better place, not a worse place, when we recognize every type of human being. Homosexuality has been around for 5,000 years too, Warren!
"The world will be a better place...when we 'recognize' every 'type' of human being." ??? Recognize? Type? First of all, they are not hard to "recognize." Second, I'm not in favor of dividing the American population into groups or classifications - that's what Germany did in in the 30's. Why do you need to identify people by race, gender, or sexual orientation? Why can't we just call people ...uh...people? or American? Get over this classification hyphenation bull-crap.
On CNN this week, Rick Warren said 'during the whole Proposition 8 thing, I never once went to a meeting, never once issued a statement, never -- never once even gave an endorsement in the two years Prop 8 was going' -
Warren was going to be confronted with THIS video by George Stephanopolous this weekend on ABC. Realizing this, he cancelled his scheduled appearance. Coward. Liar.
The only people more dishonest that the mob are the cops. Followed by religious people.
wait you meant "than" i think. in another subject, this guy is an idiot. i don't listen to how pastors and priests interperate the bible because it doesn't matter. it matters what regular people read the bible as, if people just listen to what the pastors tell them its the same that the catholics did to teach their members of the church and to keep them illiterate. not all church people are liars or bad people. dont judge. i dont support or care about homosexuals. i dont get why it matters
Not once in this or any other interview did he say that gay people didn't exist, which is what your statement "History is full of gay people" implies.
Rick stated that in EVERY culture and in EVERY religion, marriage is defined as one man and one woman.
You may not like history and you may not like religion, but you can't change what either one of them can demonstrate over the past 5,000 years.
As a biologically correct male (that means "straight" for politically correct folks), I have the same rights as you and I am prevented from doing the same things as you under the law. You see, I can't marry another man either.
The bottom line: Gays want SPECIAL rights and the constitution (Thank GOD for the men who drafted it) doesn't give specific citizens SPECIAL rights.
lol., what is a biologically correct male? maybe GOD should have given you a biologically correct brain and neurotransmitter system. you're lost, sorry. Get a life
You and I must live under the same law. If you don't like the law, tough! It applies to all persons equally. I can't marry a person of the same sex and neither can you.
God designed marriage as a special union. He designed it to reflect the relationship between Christ and the church (the "bride of Christ").
You and too many others want to take two end pieces of a puzzle and make them fit together when they were never designed to do that. "Inies" go with "outies," not with other inies.
Well, the US Constitution does not recognize the relationship between Christ and the church... it doesn't recognize any one religion... this isn't a discussion about how your church defines marriage, or what your beliefs are on the subject, it's a discussion about equal protection under the law, and granting the same rights to all classes of people.
Oh, and I find that the "end pieces" of the puzzle fit together just fine ;)
Warren is correct in that he didn't make a public announcement. This video was made only in his semi-regular video email to his own church. As such it is know in Christianity as a "local church issue".
I think as a public figure with a huge congregation who video taped this, Warren is not so naive as to think this wouldn't be available to the general public. He made himself a figure beyond the "local church" a long time ago.
That he has a large church doesn't require him to keep silent to his church. He regularly sends video email to church MEMBERS called "News & Views" & touches on anything from a new parking lot on campus or what the church is supporting in Rwanda.
I find it interesting that those on here who are for "tolerance" & angry at Warren for his stand on traditional, Biblical view of marriage call him some pretty harsh things & judge his motives as if THEY were God. Can you really have it both ways?
Hey Warren!! Didn't Jacob, the grandson of Abraham have two wives, sisters, actually? And when Abraham couldn't get Sarah pregnant, he went knocked up her slave girl, whom God recognized and made a mighty nation of.
And clearly, "every religion" doesn't include Islam, where the men marry more than one woman.
Neither example that you cite contains a "Gay" relationship. And you will not find any example of a gay relationship in the Bible that was approved by God or God's appointed priests, kings, prophets, or people. In fact, what we DO FIND is that so-called "Gay's" were an acceptable target of God's wrath and continue to be - although, He desires that they repent from their sinful way of life and believe in His Son so that He can save them from eternal punishment and even BLESS THEM.
We don't want to "take civilization back 5000 years," Mr. "Getplaning;" we simply want to keep things as they are and as they have ALWAYS been. You and the minority want to change our country for the worse - by embracing what is unnatural. I'm sure that you realize that 87% of the American population says that they are Christian.
Now Rick Warren, via his publicist A. Larry Moss, is claiming he never campaigned or was part of an official advocacy group for Prop 8., so that doesn't make him an "activist."
Yeah, for 4,000 years marriage for a woman was determined by her dad... when she was 14 years old. And the man was generally 30 years and up. Furthermore, the father of the child had to pay a dowry. Is this what he supports?
I know, it is just easier to ignore things that don't agree with you. That don't make it right Mr. Warren.
WOW! Rick Warren = Liar. In his recent Larry King interview he denies making any claim of supporting prop 8. He made it too easy for us. Wonder what he's gonna come up with next.
From Wikipedia: Appeal to tradition, also known as proof from tradition, appeal to common practice, argumentum ad antiquitatem, false induction, or the "is/ought" fallacy, is a common logical fallacy in which a thesis is deemed correct on the basis that it correlates with some past or present tradition. The appeal takes the form of "this is right because we've always done it this way."
Didn't he go on Larry King saying he never supported Prop. 8? Did he not say on Larry King that he never issued a statement pro or against Gay Marriage? Hmmm....maybe this was his evil twin brother posing as the honest Reverend.
Rick Warren claims in this video that gay marriage is not only a Christian issue, that it is a humanitarian issue as well. Yet in the same breath he declares that GOD (presumably, his God) created marriage to be performed in a certain way.
It's remarkable how ridiculous your words can sound when issued through your sphincter.
"Every culture, for 5,000 years, and every religion, for 5,000 years, has said the definition of marriage is between one man and a woman."
This statement is false. For example, the ancient Hebrews, evidently Rick Warren's favorite culture, practiced polygamy 5,000 years ago. In fact, King Solomon, according to the Book of Genesis, was the wisest human being the world has ever known. Apparently, King Solomon had 700 wives and Yahweh did not seem upset about that.
Why is it so important not to change the def. of marriage?
Let's use the same argument for a different purpose.
Slavery has been a vital institution for 5000 years. It's not just a Xtian thing, every culture in the world has used slaves. Let us not change what God has set up as it is described in the bible. Why change the definition of slavery to mean it's a bad thing? It's not about discrimination it's about free speech. If a pastor should preach pro slavery it could be a hate crime.
Both McCain and Obama were lying about what they think of gay marriage. Neither one has the slightest problem with gay people, personally. But they thought they had to be retrograde on this issue to have any chance of winning. That's going to change in the near future.
"Every society & religion for the past 5,000 years?"
Wow, you really don't bother learning about history, do you?
And if what has been done for the past 5,000 years were to be a yardstick for what we should be doing in the first place, perhaps we should still have slaves?
I find it funny that Christians ignore the fact Jesus was angered at those who profit off religion yet they reach way back into the Bronze Age Book to justify their open hatred for others.
Of course without hypocrisy modern day Christianity simply could not survive...The norals of the bronze Age do not mesh with morals of the modern world...I am do happy these Bronze Age folks are no longer in a position of power.
i know its so blatant and clear to any thinking person but good god. isn't it sad to see a grown man talking about the bible like its the word of god. he sits there attacking gay people while munching on his lobster. i take it he is against slavery yet the bible is fine with it. these people really need to have their heads examined. or just read the damn book and realise it to be the joke that it is written by superstitious people at a time when noone knew how the world worked
Just because gay rights are protected, it does not mean you support them Rick. Just quit it before you, and all fundamentalist leaders become irrelevant.
Rick Warren, you've been caught lying on Larry King. You have lost all credibility as a religious leader. Your word means absolutely nothing. You sir, are a bad excuse for a human being.
Last night Warren told Larry King, "During the whole Proposition 8 thing, I never once went to a meeting, never once issued a statement, never -- never once even gave an endorsement in the two years Prop 8 was going."
Thank goodness for YouTube. You have to wonder why all of these conservative extremists keep on lying in spite of proof. They must think Americans are stupid.
Why is it that Christians are so full of hate? I thought their martyr touted love and forgiveness and we are all god's children, etc. Maybe they are more in love with idea of having something to piss and moan about than the promise of eternal salvation.
Uh, Rick. Where's that part in the Bible about DIRTY ROTTEN LIES? I think it's in there somewhere. I mean, I'm not the pastor of a mega church or anything, but pretty sure it's in there.
Why did Rick deny saying any of this on Larry King? Is this Youtube statement a fake? I am really outraged and can no longer support Rev Rick if he truly lied about all of this.
Yeah, except for all those religions where a man can have multiple wives. Like certain Christians sects...you know, the religion you support. Also, for life? Yeah right. Try for life 50% of the time. Real nice statistic there.

Where does it say this in the Constitution? You have a link to support that statement or did you just make it up?
mikecp23 2 years ago

I'm a Christian, BTW.
triggergnu 2 years ago 4
"Every single culture on the planet for the past 5,000 years has had monogamous marriage?" Who said that? What's being said is that NO human society in 5000 years has EVER had "same sex marriage".
If the guy in the video accidentally said "one man one woman" in that context... so what? There has still been zero cultures, religions, etc with "gay marriage". Period.

He isn't for or against proposition 8 per say. He is trying to say that marriage needs to be defined, and that its original definition is a man and a woman, and so to say other wise goes against culture. Basically proposition 8 is going against the definition of marriage, not that he is against man and man/woman and woman.

Pastor Rich Warren is right. Men created marriage to control women. The tool is violence.
The Apostle Paul, in The Book of Romans,1:22
"They professed themselves wise, and became fools,..."
Paul is chronicling clergymen, not gentile misdeeds. The Church nurtured
the vise and blames others. Do we see and deny for status? Others have seen and questioned. Who chooses your steps and whom does it benefit? It is your mind, your heart and your choice.
God gave everyone choice.
Choose wisely.

Your understanding of Love must be derived from reality tv shows or Hollywood movies for you to assume God is OK with the gay movement. May be even worse, you may have been handed over to "the desires of your heart" - Romans 1:18-32 - you should really read this.

South Africa
Spain
Sweden
They're doomed. And the other 14 states with legal recognition in the form of civil unions? The apocalypse is upon them.

Second, I'm not in favor of dividing the American population into groups or classifications - that's what Germany did in in the 30's. As a biologically correct male (that means "straight" for politically correct folks), I have the same rights as you and I am prevented from doing the same things as you under the law. You see, I can't marry another man either.

You need to read the 14th amendment to the constitution... equal justice under the law.
docaloc36 2 years ago
You and I must live under the same law. If you don't like the law, tough! It applies to all persons equally. I can't marry a person of the same sex and neither can you.
God designed marriage as a special union. He designed it to reflect the relationship between Christ and the church (the "bride of Christ").
You and too many others want to take two end pieces of a puzzle and make them fit together when they were never designed to do that. "Inies" go with "outies," not with other inies.
Arcy37 2 years ago
Well, the US Constitution does not recognize the relationship between Christ and the church... it doesn't recognize any one religion... this isn't a discussion about how your church defines marriage, or what your beliefs are on the subject, it's a discussion about equal protection under the law, and granting the same rights to all classes of people.
Oh, and I find that the "end pieces" of the puzzle fit together just fine ;)

I think as a public figure with a huge congregation who video taped this, Warren is not so naive as to think this wouldn't be available to the general public. He made himself a figure beyond the "local church" a long time ago.
bookeliz 2 years ago
That he has a large church doesn't require him to keep silent to his church. He regularly sends video email to church MEMBERS called "News & Views" & touches on anything from a new parking lot on campus or what the church is supporting in Rwanda.
I find it interesting that those on here who are for "tolerance" & angry at Warren for his stand on traditional, Biblical view of marriage call him some pretty harsh things & judge his motives as if THEY were God. Can you really have it both ways?

Warren is throwing the Bible out there again.
Man, you're a moron.
AllStarKase 2 years ago
Neither example that you cite contains a "Gay" relationship. And you will not find any example of a gay relationship in the Bible that was approved by God or God's appointed priests, kings, prophets, or people. In fact, what we DO FIND is that so-called "Gay's" were an acceptable target of God's wrath and continue to be - although, He desires that they repent from their sinful way of life and believe in His Son so that He can save them from eternal punishment and even BLESS THEM.

Rick Warren says here:

Rick Warren is a liar.
What is it about "Christians" that they are willing to believe a liar?
I conclude they are delusional.
