  • Just heard this AM on NPR "Jazz After Hours" that Mr. Brookmeyer had died a couple of weeks ago. He could make a valve trombone sound like it had a slide more than anyone I've heard or known. What a HELL of a musician who could turn out such beautiful melodic solos. Wish I'd payed closer attention to him thru the years, but I discounted him because he didn't play the slide... My loss. Bob will live on in his recordings; please put more of him on Utube.

  • We Will Miss Him JAZZ ON

  • Rest in peace Bob...

  • RIP Mr Brookmeyer

  • This must be 1979 or 1980, since Sco is playing his old Gibson ES-335 and not his now omnipresent 1981 Ibanez AS 200.

  • Try Eb Cm7 A halfdiminished Fm9 Bb7 Eb , Eb Cm7 .... B79 E^

  • 3:55 to 5:30 LOL!!!!!!!

  • Ahhhh Moonlight in Vermont. I am 71 and have been a jazz fan for more than 55 years. Moonlight is one of my favorite ballads. Superb!

  • Proof that you don't need to demonstrate a 10-octave range and a tongue like a serpent to be a musical mo.f..ker. Bravo Bob!

  • It gets tiresome listening to idiots on this site prattling on about whos the best trombone player and whos crap, I notice none of this on this clip, a nice change. So many people rate all the other guys, fontana, JJ, Kai et al. But njust listen to this, I got so fed up of idiots here in England slagging off valve trombones, so I went and bought an old King and bloody glad I did!!! great sound always from Brookmeyer, lots of interesting collaborations.

  • what is the name of this song?

  • Damn, what a great, great, great sound and technique by this master of valve trombone. Thanks for posting. I really enjoyed the tone of this.

  • This must be before 1981, since Sco is playing his old Gibson ES-335 -which is on the cover of his album ' Who's Who'. Beautiful tone 7 playing from the guy on the valve 'bone.

  • I interviewed him once, almost 20 years ago. Very intellectual and honest man.

  • I wish more people played valve trombone. It's funny to see Sco with a 335... thanks for posting!

  • @linusjazz I do , a German rotary valve in C with a very great tone. Played a lot of trad , swing and also my own version of Moonlight in Vermont.

I hope to fond more of BB and Jimmy Guiffre, Jim Hall

  • fantastic recording!!

but i miss the upload in which the duo of Jim Hall& Bob were playing 'Valse Hot'

  • @GitSassy

I agree, that was a great piece!

  • Awesome !

  • He's always been a brilliant performer!...does it get any better than this?....

  • Lol they spelled Scof(f)ield's surname wrong.

  • love the make me smile album w/ bob's arrangements....tjones/mlewis big band

  • Bob is the BEST!!!

  • What a wonderful example of this great player!!

If he was a saxaphone player he would be in the hall of jazz giants.

  • He is in the hall of jazz giants and he will be there forever!

  • oh. my. goodness.

  • late 70's?

  • Brookmeyer has the BEST tone ever. I have so many of his albums, and every time I hear him it's like hearing it again for the first time. He phrases his musical ideas so well, and they're all so interesting. Great song, played by great players. It's good too see some close ups to show how strong Bob's embouchure is. That's how Trombone should be played!

  • @DrBones2 he was calling himself bobby when he was with clark terry

  • @DrBones2 what about those lines? He's on my list of horn players to transcribe, but it will be a pain to get it to fit well on the ol' 6 string octave wise.
