Wow S4turnzz, those are some really tallented UFOs, to throw us all off by perfectly aligning themselfs down to a gnatts ars hair to a professional grade astronomy software.They also seemed to rotate too quickly around themselves so that the frames in this video completly missed it. (Sure you will point me to another video next.) Glad we had these "erperts" to calculate it for us. I am sure they have not profited in any way with book tours, signings and appearances.

Using science software to vett UFO videos to see if they are legit should never be a negative thing. We want our experts to focus their efforts on the cases that defy all testing. Using astronomy software should be a welcome habit when applicable. To all, keep hunting and keep looking up!!
To give you an idea of how accurate Stellarium is. The time the Earth rotates in 1 second, and that movement in the sky is 1 arc-second. Not noticible to the naked eye. The software is accurate up to a precision of 1 arc-second from 0 A.D. - 4000 A.D for most objects, according to the software manual. The software can control a telescope as well. With this precision backing it, you cannot refute it.That is the kind of fingerprint accuracy was talking about.
Agreed Mandingo. Good point. I will also say that with all our mobile devices, there are many free planetarium softwares out there to download for phones. A good one is Google Sky App. If someone is video taping a UFO, or what they think to be a UFO. Tape it!! Then check as soon after the event as possible with your phone,it might just be stars. Stars can often put on some real flashy shows at times if they are real bright,reds,greens,blues refracting off the atmosphere.

holy crap. I did the stellarium thing. I also took the frame from the video GalaxyLore said said to focus on. I printed the frame out with my printer. Poked holes with a pencil on the 5 points of light. Played with the software and zoomed it out so it matched the size of the printed frame. I had to angle the paper just a bit, suppose due to camera angle or something. I could look though the holes at my monitor and I would be damed if every hole lined up. Jaw dropped. Tinley Park is stupid. stars
@mandingodick5 I watched a program on history channel about this phenomenon and experts calculated the speed of the lights and it a little slower than an passanger one, BUT at one point the lights halt to a stop and stand still. This obviously isn't done by stars. Also I would like to point out that they did test baloons and flares NOT EVEN CLOSE. Flares are very VERY diffrent. One more thing, the 2 lights ARE orbiting around the 3rd this is proven by a computer expert.
I went and Googled Stellarium.It is like the first friggin link.So I spend about an hour going through the software and retraced what TheGalaxylore said.It is pretty damn sound. I could see what the dude was saying.The guy is no dumbass either.I took a class in high school and what he is stating is not bull. Unfortunate this video does not reflect 3 red lights moving. All that can be examined is the video. It does accurately depict star locations. It is 5 stars. Little more than a 3 point triangle. I agree there is many triangles in the sky. However there is only 1 Altair, Vega, Deneb, and 2 close companion stars that clinch the deal. This is very much a IFO. Identified Flying Object. If there is something you see next time, hope you have a camera, I would love to see it and get just as excited.
"Somebody"? I saw them that night. I was walking around with some friends in Kimberly off 167th. PEOPLE saw it. Ask TP Police. There are billions of stars, therefore hundreds of millions of triangles, sure. But there were only 3 red lights and they were in complete contrast of the night sky. They moved, and did so with direction and deliberation. I spend plenty of time looking at stars. If you skeptics saw these "stars," you'd either be sure they weren't or that you were on LSD.

I don't understand why people would rather assume something as ridiculous as sky lanterns or flares (including these "experts") to explain the summer triangle when these are simply STARS in our Chicago night sky. The asterism, the summer triangle is as recognizable to me as the big dipper or the belt and the box of Orion is to a novice. I think we all can agree if the points of light were arranged in these patterns, big dipper for example rather than the summer triangle, there would be little discussion as it is recognizable to a wider audience. This is paramont to aguing the moon is a spaceship.
The moon is the moon, it just is. I tried to use a third party non biased software tool Stellarium noted below in a prior post, knowing that many want ilrefutable proof these are stars on the very night of the incident. I knew I had to take the topic back in time to the very night to debunk (THIS) video, I feel the software did that very well.
This video may be debunked but there are many many others that defy rationale. I have a genuine passion for the subject. Ask how much proof would you require to debunk (THIS) video? Should the burden of absolute proof in this subject be on the debunker, that's seems rather irrational. Should not the burden be on the promoter of UFO's. I think the issue is the accronym UFO should not instantly equate to aliens but rather just unidentified and you might see it more 50/50 as I do.
I certainly am not repressing anyones beleif system. I too believe in life in the Universe. Statistically it is impossible there would not be life elseware with a Billion plus
stars in our own non spectacular Milky Way Galaxy alone. There are more stars in the heavens than there are grains of sand in all the deserts on this Earth. Galaxies are also equally inumerable as Hubble Deep Field showed.
I cannot speak for HuskerFan who originally noted these were stars, but (s)he is absolutly correct. I personally have 18 years experience as an avid astronomer and I know the night time sky very well. I will leave it to internal debate if that qualifies me as an expert. I certainly am no novice in astronomy. I am also a 10 year resident of Tinley Park hence my interest in the topic. Stellarium noted below puts (this) video to bed.
We must accept that we have been arrogant to claim sole proprietorship over the Universe. I implore anyone to give Stellarium a try and retrace my steps. Regardless of your dire commitments to aliens it is a good learning tool. Enjoy.

Now I know there is life out there in the Universe, with Drake's equation being refined every year. The recent increase in detected exoplanets fueling the fire it is only a matter of time it becomes too painful to denounce life in the Universe.
The objects are very identifiable to someone that has the right software to confirm it was stars and their locations that night.The moon on that night was near full washing out much of the stars making an observer not see a lot of other stars for reference.
At no time in the video was there any aerial maneuvers noted, so any commentary to that effect is once again a group recalling and embellishing on the events of the night with UFO on the mind. We as outside testers are only left with reviewing the video and I have to say the video in this case really does tell volumes.
In the video it was stated by the witness that his son right away said that this was a UFO. The issue is once a statement is made like that, someone that had failed to gain a rational identification for and object will grasp to explain it and with someone in the group advocating that the object is a UFO then the group tends to be persuaded to accept that identification.
How am I so sure on the ratios, well thankfully a commercial airliner also stepped into the frame 2:14 and I have seen this many times while observing the Summer Triangle in Tinley park. The airplane only confirmed what I suspected, the distance between the points of light. It is a dead match. Stars in the night time sky are like fingerprints. Their pinpoint positioning in ratio to one another is deadly telling especially when you see the slight off centers ratios.
This is critical to notice as it is key to it exact identification. Now the star that it leans towards on the other side of the triangle is Vega the lower right corner of the frame. The star that is slightly closer on the side of the frame in the center is HIP98110. Knowing the ratio in distance and off center is key to its exact identification. The star towards to upper right of the frame is none other than Deneb, thus completing the Summer Triangle.
There may be more stars visible in Stellarium but that matters not. Recall the camera is only going to see the brightest. See that they line up exactly. Pay very close attention to distance ratios and any that are off center in the slightest. Notice in frame 2:04 that the star on the far center left is Altair with a very near star Tarazed to the right of it. Notice how it is not dead center and a little to the side more towards one of the other points of the triangle.
Look for Vega, Deneb, and Altair. Notice they make a triangle. You may want to slide the star label slider in the configuration to help you see the star names.
Now Go to the UFO video and pause on frames 2:04 or 2:05. These frames are very clear and camera motion free showing 5 stars in a very distinct pattern. There are 5 stars. Compare these frames to that which is in Stellarium.
Download a astronomy software that is freely available called Stellarium. Set the location to Tinley Park Illinois and rewind the date back to August 21 2004 any time between 8-11pm CST and pause the application. Set the light pollution to 5 or 6.I know because I live in Tinley Park and it is roughly about that level comparing the application results to that of what I typically observe in the sky on a good night. Face due south in the application and move towards the zenith, straight up.
regarding murphy416's remark as to knowing 'it was flares on balloons'. Please supply me with the dates, and the individuals names and contact information. I would also like to point out that the Chicago is an urban area and contains many city lights that drown out most of the stars, making the only the brightest stars visible in the night sky. This is NOT a UFO. These 3 stars (Vega, Deneb, and Altair) make up the asterism called the Summer Triangle. At 2:02, you can clearly see two stars (a major and a minor) that make up Altair. To the right is the star Deneb, above that is Alberio in the center, and Vega is the star at the top right. I am very familiar with Tinley Park skies, and yes stars do illuminate and "twinkle" at times, and is interesting to watch, but please educate yourselves before assuming this is a UFO.

Footage was filmed on 21st August 2004. Incidently, in 2004, Chinese Valentines Day fell on 22nd August. (China would be on the 22nd by the time this footage was filmed).

UFO Hunters had a PROFESSIONAL Video Tech take multiple videos of this exact evening from different people in opposite directions, they estimate that the object is (roughly) 1000 to 1500 feet long/wide. I saw this on October 13 in Philadelphia (as did quite a few other people). It would be quite ridiculous to assume that people who don't even know each other staged the same hoax from multiple locations (did I mention that they didn't know each other?) at the same exact time would be impossible
I live near Tinley Park, but unfortunately didn't see this UFOs, although I'm told that it exited the area by flying over my town. My question is, why would UFOs be so interested in Tinley Park? I can understand why they'd be interested in military bases, missile silos, scientific research labs like Los Alamos, and defense contractors like Lockheed Martin, etc. But what is in Tinley Park that they are so interested in? As far as I know, there are none of the above type of facilities there.

ANd yes when it was overhead it didnt make any noise at all it was truly amazing. but yes there is a facility near orland park/ tinley park that has military stuff. For example the Military Armory right off of La Grange road.....

There are plenty of cases that cannot be explained in which hundreds of people have witnessed various UFO's (reference Belgian UFO Wave) and yet you have these skeptics who would claim that all of these people are morons and that what they were seeing was swamp gas which their brains naturally interpreted as UFO's.

this seemed to be directly above my house, i saw it with my own two eyes. it seemed they were closer until planes flew way way under them. they didn't just fly away either, they changed color then seemed to get much smaller then turn white and disappear. my neighbors and i watched it for a long time. it was strange. the three dots did not seem to move together like stated in the video- they seemed to move independently, but stayed grouped together.
I saw them for my 4th time, about a week ago , they did not decend and were going at too fast of a speed to be miltary flares, they faded one at a time untill u could see them no more. and still kept a perfect triangle formation

I was in Tinley Park that night in August. I saw the three lights but had no camera. I'm not sure what it was, but I can tell you that it occured literally, the day after the Chicago Air and Water Show. At a hotel in Tinley Park, IL.. Sam (the chubby guy with glasses) held a conference there for anyone who had seen the lights. We all came to the hotel and sat in a room and had a discussion about what we had seen. Was cool stuff.
EVERYONE LISTEN!!! this is what happened....They were mini hot air balloons that were tied together with some ropes and let into the sky. i own 3 of them and i light them off my pier. i know the person who did this...he is the one who sold them to me. they are called chinese lanterns and there mini hot air balloons.

Saw them tonight, July 3 2010, to the West of Park Forest, IL moving quickly south to north. Three orange red lights in an apparent triangle. Looked like road flares but very high and moving pretty quickly. No surface wind.
3 adults in my family have see the Black Triangles in daytime. 3 seperate sightings, all in in Northern Illinois. they were flying low, silent and about the size of a football field. however, people don't believe their stories. But greatest reason it is man made, is for the fact it actually has lights on the leading edges of the craft. The only reason aircrafts have lights is to be visually detect by other aircraft. Do you think an alien craft would only fly at night just to be detected by airplanes?
Idanley-Light is the result of energy-wave lengh in the visual spectum. Where its from and of course what exactly it is ...well it's very big. The case is still open and we are getting more information as well as new report now and then from the area.

If something travel billions of light years away, It would not have lights on it's craft (Would we put lights on the space shuttle). I grew up in tinley from the 50's thru 70's and once saw a ufo flying overhead I was with my two friends at the time.Dirk Spence and Jeffrey Pennington we were out in the woods near Bert Fulton school at night stretching our brain a bit and here this thing comes buzzing over head about 800 feet up.This took place back in 1968 or 69 we ran down devils hill and slipped in the weeds near the creek all I can say was I was scared but not that knuckle head Dirk he still makes me laugh.
I saw a triangular aircraft fly vertically, and then fly directly overhead on 3/19/2009 at about 6:20 a.m. It was probably flying at an altitude of 600 feet, at maybe 70 mph. The sky was lit. The craft was equilateral, with three small white lights, (no larger than a bright star), that were seemingly coming out of the corners of the object, as if they were not attached to the structure of the craft. It emitted a loud humming / rumbling sound

1500 ft. is how wide it was.....No Eyewitness said they saw smoke....camera or not... smoke is very visible...it could have been hazy but it wasn't...very clear night.....It only moved twice....all the other time it stayed in the same formation.....it was up pretty high...I doubt they could have controlled that depending on wind conditions.....

Its funny though how pretty much all of tinley park doesn't think its a ufo and tons of people from all these other far away places have done these tests and think its a ufo. The group that did it has done other crazy stuff before too. About 7 years ago they made their own fireworks show larger than our town's designated one. They were flares, really. I may have been drunk that night, but trust me, didn't have that much to even think that. Only thing i am unsure of, is if it was one or 3 ufo's.

For the record, I got a nice close look at this suposed UFO back in 1999. I would venture to say it is a "stealth blimp" used for radar testing. I got a good look at it as it passed by about 300 feet overhead. Deffinately blimp engines.
Over the Ottawa river(Canada) between the city of Ottawa and the Gatineau mountains i sometimes see what looks like common satellites until they start doing things that satellites don't do like make right angle turns or chase each other.Those i have seen clearly were reflecting the setting sun over the western horizon and would dim out once crossing out of the suns rays just like a satellite but some go straight up and some turn abruptly.Those i have no clue about but doubt they are satellites.
Wow S4turnzz, those are some really tallented UFOs, to throw us all off by perfectly aligning themselfs down to a gnatts ars hair to a professional grade astronomy software.They also seemed to rotate too quickly around themselves so that the frames in this video completly missed it. To give you an idea of how accurate Stellarium is. The time the Earth rotates in 1 second, and that movement in the sky is 1 arc-second. Not noticible to the naked eye. The software is accurate up to a precision of 1 arc-second from 0 A.D. - 4000 A.D for most objects, according to the software manual. The software can control a telescope as well. With this precision backing it, you cannot refute it.That is the kind of fingerprint accuracy was talking about.

Agreed Mandingo. Good point. I will also say that with all our mobile devices, there are many free planetarium softwares out there to download for phones. A good one is Google Sky App. If someone is video taping a UFO, or what they think to be a UFO. Tape it!! Then check as soon after the event as possible with your phone,it might just be stars. Stars can often put on some real flashy shows at times if they are real bright,reds,greens,blues refracting off the atmosphere.

holy crap. I did the stellarium thing. I also took the frame from the video GalaxyLore said said to focus on. I printed the frame out with my printer. Poked holes with a pencil on the 5 points of light. Played with the software and zoomed it out so it matched the size of the printed frame. I had to angle the paper just a bit, suppose due to camera angle or something. I could look though the holes at my monitor and I would be damed if every hole lined up. Jaw dropped. @mandingodick5 I watched a program on history channel about this phenomenon and experts calculated the speed of the lights and it a little slower than an passanger one, BUT at one point the lights halt to a stop and stand still. This obviously isn't done by stars. Also I would like to point out that they did test baloons and flares NOT EVEN CLOSE. Flares are very VERY diffrent. One more thing, the 2 lights ARE orbiting around the 3rd this is proven by a computer expert.

Unfortunate this video does not reflect 3 red lights moving. All that can be examined is the video. It does accurately depict star locations. It is 5 stars. Little more than a 3 point triangle. I agree there is many triangles in the sky. However there is only 1 Altair, Vega, Deneb, and 2 close companion stars that clinch the deal. This is very much a IFO. Identified Flying Object. If there is something you see next time, hope you have a camera, I would love to see it and get just as excited.

"Somebody"? I saw them that night. I was walking around with some friends in Kimberly off 167th. PEOPLE saw it. Ask TP Police. There are billions of stars, therefore hundreds of millions of triangles, sure. But there were only 3 red lights and they were in complete contrast of the night sky. They moved, and did so with direction and deliberation. I spend plenty of time looking at stars. If you skeptics saw these "stars," you'd either be sure they weren't or that you were on LSD.

The asterism, the summer triangle is as recognizable to me as the big dipper or the belt and the box of Orion is to a novice. I think we all can agree if the points of light were arranged in these patterns, big dipper for example rather than the summer triangle, there would be little discussion as it is recognizable to a wider audience. Should the burden of absolute proof in this subject be on the debunker, that's seems rather irrational. Should not the burden be on the promoter of UFO's. I personally have 18 years experience as an avid astronomer and I know the night time sky very well. I will leave it to internal debate if that qualifies me as an expert. The objects are very identifiable to someone that has the right software to confirm it was stars and their locations that night.The moon on that night was near full washing out much of the stars making an observer not see a lot of other stars for reference.

At no time in the video was there any aerial maneuvers noted, so any commentary to that effect is once again a group recalling and embellishing on the events of the night with UFO on the mind. In the video it was stated by the witness that his son right away said that this was a UFO. The issue is once a statement is made like that, someone that had failed to gain a rational identification for and object will grasp to explain it and with someone in the group advocating that the object is a UFO then the group tends to be persuaded to accept that identification.

How am I so sure on the ratios, well thankfully a commercial airliner also stepped into the frame 2:14 and I have seen this many times while observing the Summer Triangle in Tinley park. The airplane only confirmed what I suspected, the distance between the points of light. It is a dead match. Stars in the night time sky are like fingerprints. Their pinpoint positioning in ratio to one another is deadly telling especially when you see the slight off centers ratios.

This is critical to notice as it is key to it exact identification. Now the star that it leans towards on the other side of the triangle is Vega the lower right corner of the frame. The star that is slightly closer on the side of the frame in the center is HIP98110. Knowing the ratio in distance and off center is key to its exact identification. The star towards to upper right of the frame is none other than Deneb, thus completing the Summer Triangle.

There may be more stars visible in Stellarium but that matters not. Recall the camera is only going to see the brightest. See that they line up exactly. Pay very close attention to distance ratios and any that are off center in the slightest. Notice in frame 2:04 that the star on the far center left is Altair with a very near star Tarazed to the right of it. Notice how it is not dead center and a little to the side more towards one of the other points of the triangle.

Look for Vega, Deneb, and Altair. Notice they make a triangle. You may want to slide the star label slider in the configuration to help you see the star names.
Now Go to the UFO video and pause on frames 2:04 or 2:05. These frames are very clear and camera motion free showing 5 stars in a very distinct pattern. There are 5 stars. Compare these frames to that which is in Stellarium.

Download a astronomy software that is freely available called Stellarium. Set the location to Tinley Park Illinois and rewind the date back to August 21 2004 any time between 8-11pm CST and pause the application. Set the light pollution to 5 or 6.I know because I live in Tinley Park and it is roughly about that level comparing the application results to that of what I typically observe in the sky on a good night. Face due south in the application and move towards the zenith, straight up.

I would also like to point out that the Chicago is an urban area and contains many city lights that drown out most of the stars, making the only the brightest stars visible in the night sky. This is NOT a UFO. These 3 stars (Vega, Deneb, and Altair) make up the asterism called the Summer Triangle. At 2:02, you can clearly see two stars (a major and a minor) that make up Altair. To the right is the star Deneb, above that is Alberio in the center, and Vega is the star at the top right. I am very familiar with Tinley Park skies, and yes stars do illuminate and "twinkle" at times, and is interesting to watch, but please educate yourselves before assuming this is a UFO.

Footage was filmed on 21st August 2004. Incidently, in 2004, Chinese Valentines Day fell on 22nd August. (China would be on the 22nd by the time this footage was filmed).
So, either the lights are Chinese lanterns..
OR an intelligent life form has flown to earth to float above America for no reason, and despite being invisible to radar, they forgot to turn their external lights off.

UFO sightings really aren't peculiar at all.
Think of it like this - the Universe is almost infinitely large, so advanced civilisations are bound to live somewhere out there, and perhaps they had to abandon their own planet and are now looking for a new home?
Maybe our planet is interesting because they have spotted life here?
If you think of it from that perspective then UFOs seem completely normal to me, and maybe we will be UFO travellers ourselves in a few billion years, you never know.

I think the explanation by noclip14 below seems to tick all the boxes.They seem to be 3 separate flares/lanterns suspended under helium filled bags with men holding uniform length fishing line at ground level.
I am a little puzzled how the guys from UFO hunters calculated 1,000 ft across as the distance between the lights. How did they know how far away or close the lights were???

UFO Hunters had a PROFESSIONAL Video Tech take multiple videos of this exact evening from different people in opposite directions, they estimate that the object is (roughly) 1000 to 1500 feet long/wide. I saw this on October 13 in Philadelphia (as did quite a few other people). It would be quite ridiculous to assume that people who don't even know each other staged the same hoax from multiple locations (did I mention that they didn't know each other?) at the same exact time would be impossible

I live near Tinley Park, but unfortunately didn't see this UFOs, although I'm told that it exited the area by flying over my town. My question is, why would UFOs be so interested in Tinley Park? I can understand why they'd be interested in military bases, missile silos, scientific research labs like Los Alamos, and defense contractors like Lockheed Martin, etc. But what is in Tinley Park that they are so interested in? As far as I know, there are none of the above type of facilities there.

this seemed to be directly above my house, i saw it with my own two eyes. it seemed they were closer until planes flew way way under them. they didn't just fly away either, they changed color then seemed to get much smaller then turn white and disappear. my neighbors and i watched it for a long time. it was strange. the three dots did not seem to move together like stated in the video- they seemed to move independently, but stayed grouped together.

I was in Tinley Park that night in August. I saw the three lights but had no camera. I'm not sure what it was, but I can tell you that it occured literally, the day after the Chicago Air and Water Show. At a hotel in Tinley Park, IL.. Sam (the chubby guy with glasses) held a conference there for anyone who had seen the lights. We all came to the hotel and sat in a room and had a discussion about what we had seen. Was cool stuff.

EVERYONE LISTEN!!! this is what happened....They were mini hot air balloons that were tied together with some ropes and let into the sky. i own 3 of them and i light them off my pier. i know the person who did this...he is the one who sold them to me. they are called chinese lanterns and there mini hot air balloons.

Saw them tonight, July 3 2010, to the West of Park Forest, IL moving quickly south to north. Three orange red lights in an apparent triangle. Looked like road flares but very high and moving pretty quickly. No surface wind.

What they saw was strange indeed, but it WAS terrestrial.
It's known as the "Stealth Blimp", an enormous, flying triangular craft powered by silent propulsion systems and invisible to radar.
Lockheed was contracted in 1981 to develop this craft as a mammoth transport and airborne surveillance platform for the USAF.

But greatest reason it is man made, is for the fact it actually has lights on the leading edges of the craft. The only reason aircrafts have lights is to be visually detect by other aircraft. Do you think an alien craft would only fly at night just to be detected by airplanes?

Idanley-Light is the result of energy-wave lengh in the visual spectum. Where its from and of course what exactly it is ...well it's very big. The case is still open and we are getting more information as well as new report now and then from the area.

If something travel billions of light years away, It would not have lights on it's craft (Would we put lights on the space shuttle). I grew up in tinley from the 50's thru 70's and once saw a ufo flying overhead I was with my two friends at the time.Dirk Spence and Jeffrey Pennington we were out in the woods near Bert Fulton school at night stretching our brain a bit and here this thing comes buzzing over head about 800 feet up.This took place back in 1968 or 69 we ran down devils hill and slipped in the weeds near the creek all I can say was I was scared but not that knuckle head Dirk he still makes me laugh.

UFO hunters tested the supposed garbage bag, fishing line, flare theory, didn't work.
Wind blew the balloons all over so they were not stationary, and the flares lights went in and out, because they are flares.
Also, if you did this as a hoax, why would you debunk it? Wouldn't you perpetuate the myth rather than admitting to it?

I saw a triangular aircraft fly vertically, and then fly directly overhead on 3/19/2009 at about 6:20 a.m. It was probably flying at an altitude of 600 feet, at maybe 70 mph. The sky was lit. The craft was equilateral, with three small white lights, (no larger than a bright star), that were seemingly coming out of the corners of the object, as if they were not attached to the structure of the craft. It emitted a loud humming / rumbling sound

That came down to the ground. They just held the line so the heights didn't change. And the formation changed because they kept moving where they were.

1500 ft. is how wide it was.....No Eyewitness said they saw smoke....camera or not... smoke is very visible...it could have been hazy but it wasn't...very clear night.....It only moved twice....all the other time it stayed in the same formation.....it was up pretty high...I doubt they could have controlled that depending on wind conditions.....

For the record, I got a nice close look at this suposed UFO back in 1999. I would venture to say it is a "stealth blimp" used for radar testing. I got a good look at it as it passed by about 300 feet overhead. Deffinately blimp engines.

Over the Ottawa river(Canada) between the city of Ottawa and the Gatineau mountains i sometimes see what looks like common satellites until they start doing things that satellites don't do like make right angle turns or chase each other.Those i have seen clearly were reflecting the setting sun over the western horizon and would dim out once crossing out of the suns rays just like a satellite but some go straight up and some turn abruptly.Those i have no clue about but doubt they are satellites.
