I hate the fact that I only got to experience this much better version of Journey Into Imagination once in my life. Even more unfortunate, I was only 4 at the time and barely remember anything :(
Whoever is responsible for the desecration of this ride should be shot! The original was utterly charming, inspiring and whimsical. It was complete with a catchy song and love-able characters. The ride system was clever and the overall storytelling was excellent. I still cant believe the mural in the que was simply removed or painted over. It breaks my heart to think that they just ripped out the old ride and replaced it with the crap that is there today :(
God how i miss old disney world and old disney rides, the new ones, and “refurbished” are just not magical to me. i am so mad they got rid of the old rides and shows, why couldn't they just build new stuff elsewhere, like in another state!
i read online that kodak ened there sponsorship with the attraction in last year and it said it means bad news for figment. and also i read that if they decide to change it that there going to to down the imagination pavillion. which means no more of the purple dragon we all know and love.
@MrChaos010 They better not take Figment out of the attraction. He and Dreamfinder are(or used to be) the heart and soul of the attraction. What would they do if they took Figment out. Just a note, I hate the current attraction as much as the next Disney fan. I just ask you, what would the imagineers put in the pavillion? Doesnt Disney own the character own the character of Figment ?
i love figment here is my first favorite disney character but i wish i could've went on the oringinal like u did. and i can describe figment perfectly two tiny wings eyes big and yellow honrs of a steer form head to tail heres royal purple pigment there vola you've got a figment
I was appalled after getting off the new one. Funny the next year after it opened THE LINE DWINDLED BY MORE THAN 3/4ths. bring us back the bright beautiful ride there once was. Its ok you can make mistakes just correct them please.
ok, how does the ride system work for the first really long scene with dreamfinder and figment??? Are we still moving and the "dreamcatcher" is moving too? Im a bit confused, i never recall going on that in its original state, Im 15. so yea, if someone could explain that it would be fantastic
@Dragonrider1227 The ride had a "lazy Susanne" type turn table in the beginning that was divided into 4 sections (4 shows could show simultaneously obviously at different points at any given point in time). then entered the 'dream port' and were on the single track that all cars followed. This occurred in what is now part of the ride queue of "into imagination".
@clayrox117 There were five identinal sets with Dreamfinder on his blimp. The rides vehicles, the set, audio system, set separation walls, and projection system all moved together around a 70ft diameter circle. Considered a marvel at the time. Look on bigfloridacountry for Martin's Smiths video. It explains everything.
@clayrox117 You and Dreamfinder were riding on a carousel that was 75 feet across. It had 5 identical show scenes so that 5 different groups could see the same scene within a minute or 2 of each other. One group would unhook from the track and hook onto the carousel while another group was unhooking and rejoining with the rest of the track and then onto the rest of the ride. It was so complex that it eventually caused problems so they got rid of it. I still miss this version.
I talked to Tony Baxter, the creator of the original ride, this weekend, and he really has some animosity for the current state of the attraction, but with Figment starting to reappear everywhere and Dreamfinder and Figment showing up at Destination: D, maybe we'll get them back? :/ We can hope.

@TwilightLink77 I personally would love it seeing as I live in California and Figment is such a cute and underrated character. And more people would start to know who him and Dreamfinder are. Personally I think they should replace It's a Small World with this ride!
I visited Epcot today. We now live in a bizzaro upside down world where the Mexican Boat Ride is nifty while Journey Into Imagination is the lamest attraction in the park.
How come it seems that whenever a good attraction goes down for refurb, it comes back way worse? They did the same thing to Alien Encounter they did to this; replace it with an uninspired, overly-obnoxious version.
@AdrenalineAddict610 alien encounter closed a year before my first trip to the magic kingdom, stitchs great escape SUCKED and i watched a video for alien encounter and WOW is it scary. this imagination from the 80s also looks better than the one i went on.
OMG THE COMPUTER IM PLAYING THIS VIDEO ON NOW HAS AN AUDIO MALFUNCTION AND REMOVES FIGMENT'S VOICE COMPLETELY!!!!! ALSO I CAN'T HEAR THE NOISES WHEN THE SPARKS GO INTO THE IDEA BAG! IT SOUNDS EERIE TO ONLY HEAR ONE VOICE IN THE RIDE... THE DREAMFINDER'S VOICE!
@npsalm121 Actually that is exactly correct. I was watching it on my brother's computer and the speakers are part of the monitor. They are not doing well, so fortunately one of the computers has a separately-installed Altec Lansing speaker system that has been doing great and lets me hear that cute little voice!!! But sadly it does not sound that way on the ride anymore. It sounds more mature and less fun, a perfect match for today's version.
I love this version!! I went on the new ride and it was the first time I was on a ride thinking about what my schedule looked like for the following week. So boring!!!
Hopefully this version or at least something similar to this one will return to Epcot very soon because since there version of Captain EO returned July 2,2010.
@WDI2008 They are returning Captain EO for a year because Michael Jackson died. A cast member told me that it would be a year. What do you think they will do at the end of that time: Bring back Honey I Shrunk The Audience or try to make something new (which may fail depending on what they put)?
@Hallamfoebell The return of Captain EO is only temporary and they brought it back because Michael Jackson died. I now see that this is a chance to live part of old Epcot, so I'm gonna see it next time. But I do miss the area music from Honey I Shrunk the Audience. There was a mysterious absence of the music, then I saw the Captain EO sign. And today Mickey's Toontown Fair closes to be built over by Fantasyland... I will post a video of the Barnstormer that I took last summer as a tribute.
@DisneyfanBeckers I wonder if Rick Moranis dies then will they put up Honey I shrunk the Audience? Okay what about the living body wars is that still up? Where we are the kids eyes? I dont think its the body wars but its near there.
@Hallamfoebell I am sorry but honest to say that last time I was at Epcot in November, I wanted to go into the Wonders of Life building to see if anything was still there, but the only original thing in sight was a mobile on the ceiling. The place is now used as a festival center for the Food&Wine and International Flower and Garden Festivals. My dad pointed out where the old rides and shows were, and those places were roped off. Btw I've posted my Barnstormer video if you're interested.
@DisneyfanBeckers Man that sucks they should give everyone a dvd of the shows and a map of things they dismantle. whats the barnstormer video? So we dont get to see Rick or Robin in Journey into imagniation ride just Eric Idle? Is the interactive stuff upstairs still there?
@Hallamfoebell it has not been removed, but only a downstairs portion of Imageworks is open. And the Barnstormer video is Goofy's Barnstormer June 2010 on my channel.
@Hallamfoebell Yes. If you want to know what's open and what everything is like today, you can go to the Disney World website. Epcot's International Flower and Garden Festival is coming soon. And if you want a rush, go up to the url on this video page, delete 7nhEEBPnuro and paste KlLvKPYdzkQ in its place. It's not violent or anything, but the first time you see it it may seem pretty scary. It's a preview for the Star Wars the Clone Wars three-part special. It has me worried for those Jedi X_x
@DisneyfanBeckers What about those professors at Hogwarts? I will proably go 2012 next potter convention. are you sad to see the old attractions gone/ I am. Whats the Garden festival like?
@Hallamfoebell I know almost nothing about Harry Potter. The Flower and Garden Festival has lots of flowers, plants, and character-shaped bushes called topiaries, you can learn about different plants and flowers, there are children's activities like crafts (I made a pipecleaner rose once), and gardening advice and products. It's a beautiful time to see Epcot. The Land pavilion has a "Behind the Seeds" tour available any day, showing neat agricultural studies. Also did you see the Clone Wars vid?
@DisneyfanBeckers Oh I vaguley remember that one is that the one with alligators in tanks you can see and the vegatables are growing not in the ground? Is that still in operation? The only behind the scenes I have done is the Scuba diving at Epcot. I heard now its all about the business. Which is sad since I wanted the soaps and Shampoo and Conditioner you could have taken home and the T-shirt you used to get.
@Hallamfoebell Well, the ride you are thinking of is a boat ride called "Living With The Land". It is still open, and it is only one of the rides inside The Land building. There are also a couple of restaurants called Sunshine Seasons and Garden Grill, and a couple other attractions, Soarin' and Circle of Life.
@Hallamfoebell Yes, and everything that is at Disney World is on their website. Oh and this is for Imagination: recently I have seen pictures of the Dreamfinder around Epcot like at the Imageworks gift shop and Mouse Gear, a large gift store in Future World. The pictures were just put up around 2010, and I have heard rumors about another refurb to make Imagination more like the original. I hope they do it!
--PART1--well im a steam punker and i wasnt sure if he was in a air/steam ship or not ...but after seeing his goggles and hat...i knew he was...see the reason they didnt bring it back is cause right before they built it back something happend to steampunk...punks figured that the "punk" in it meant it was a punk style...soon they took control and now punks, emos, goths, devil worshipers, ect control it...im a steampunker...a original...i do it for the steam and fun and the other stuff this guy does.
actually, usually there's NOBODY in line anymore. but maybe if they bring captain like they're doing to disneyland to replace huney, i shrunk the audience, they might update the ride and make a 4th version and bring back dreamfinder! :D
A while back, there were rumors about a 4th version, and bringing back Dreamfinder. However, considering that time that has followed since, and how Disney has not said anything reguarding a change in that ride, I can only say that there won;t be a new version anytime soon.
Believe me, It really hurts me to say that, because I honestly thought there would be a new version.
I understand that. Right now they are focusing on the Fantasyland Expansion (because of competition with the new harry potter expansion to universal's islands of adventure)
the new verison is crap it was my first time to wdw but my parents have been there a few times so we went to epcot and we went on the ride because it was only a 5 minute wait and it looked kinda (crap) cool (not really) so we went on it it sucked soooo bad i wanted to cry (not really) the old verson is waaaayyy better please disney get ride of the new verson replace it with something cooler
I'm hoping with Lasseter revamping CA Adventure that he'll come through EPCOT and do some improvements. Just kills me they took out this ride since it was so timeless. Since when does imagination ever become dated?
Don't get me wrong, Figment is my favorite character and Journey Into Imagination is (was...) my favorite ride, but the first (and last) time I went back in '98 NO ONE except me and my family were riding it. Imagination might be timeless, but before they replaced the old one hardly anyone cared about it anymore.
That's not to say if they brought it back no one would ride it now, however...
Thankyouthankyouthankyou for posting this!!! For about 7 minutes, I got to relive my childhood :-) When are the Disney Imagineers gonna focus more on creating new attractions and less on bastardizing their classic ones?
I actually like the new ride (though visually, it definitely does not compare to the original) the only thing I REALLY don't like and think lacks imagination now is the new Imageworks. Totally lame!
@Dragonrider1227 i totally agree with dragon! the new one is fine, it's the 2nd version that made people get so mad, that it made them hate the 3rd version. they hated dr. nigel channing! LOL
i agree, i hate the new version of it, they took sooo much out of it, it looks so empty, the fact that its all about your senses like smell, taste, hear, its really boring, the original was soo much better, they should of kept it the way it was, colorful and amazing not boring
@moonbunnychan I dont even ride the new one, I think the less and less people ride the current one, the more the imagineers get it through their thick skull that they failed on replacing this ride. ASSHOLES they are!!
@AdrenalineAddict610 Ther is a rumor thats out there...but only a rumor...that the Original Imagineer of the ride is going to make a new ride using the latest technology. It is said that Michael Isner was responsible for removing the original ride. I hope it is true. I loved this ride. Isner removed 20,000 Leagues under the Sea and Mr. Toads Wild Ride.
The new head of Disney is said to have met with the original designeer.
Remember when the Image Works was upstairs?? There's like nothing in those pyramids anymore. They should make use of that space. I LOVE the architecture of this place. And all of Future World for that matter!
That was my favorite ride at Epcot. I was sad and pissed when Epcot decided to replace Journey Into Imagination with a boring version in 2000 and a annoying version in 2002 of the same name.
The nostalgia kills me, watching this vid brings back memories, that and Kiki's Delivery Service.
there are rumors that in the 2002 version whoever was in charge made the last scene as more of an insult to Figment fans rather than a finalie .... like a "Oh! You wanted Figment back? Oh! well there you go here's a whole room full of him!!!"
Yeah... he might laughed his ass off and saying to Figment fans "Don't worry, Figgy Fanboys. I'm laughing at you, not with you! That's what you get from bitching at Journey Into Your Imagination!"
It's nice for Whoeva Whatshisname to resurrect Figment, but do we need to have a bunch of Figment Clones sing like they are at the wrong attraction?
Thanks for posting this video. Great images and editing. It helps me bring back memories of the 80's and besides, it shows exactly how the attraction looked like. Greetings from Brazil.
@Dragonrider1227 That's how it is with most Disney sequels. It's rare that one is as good as the first movie.
I really miss this ride; it was my favorite as a child. The Image Works was amazing, and I loved the lights on the floor that made music, but now they're all just awful, terrible noise! D:
Disney has a way of creating something that is incredible, then abandoning it when they find something else that gets their attention. Problem is, those shiney things often kill the original. Look at the latest sequels over the past 10 years. HoND is another example. They had a great thing with Figment and wrecked it. This attraction came into my life when I needed it most. I rode it continuously and created beautiful artwork after. The inspiration is in the heart.
What's HoND? ??? But anyway, I gotta admit that when I rode the original in '90 (I was six at the time) it did inspire me to want to use my imagination quite a bit more than the new one does. I thought maybe that was 'cause I was getting older though ^^; All the original ride needed IMHO was better dialogue and perhaps to be shorter.
in a way though, we should possibily count our blessings. I read somewhere that if they hadn't made these changes, then they would've lost Kodak's sponsorship and the only other company interested in sponsorship (Fujifilm I think) wanted to turn it into some generic Roller Coaster
This ride ROCKED the way it was. I contacted Kodak after it closed the first time. They told me they felt the ride needed updating, that they were sure that Figment fans would love it. They assured me that the new ride would remain true to Disney traditions, but that they felt it was time for a change. After seeing the first reopening, I complained to management. I got an email from Kodak saying they were going to change it to add more Figment. They changed it again, but..they just don't get it.
Well, let's not kid ourselves. As good as this ride was, as much as it gave us, it had it's flaws. The dialogue for instance was some of the most CORNIEST dialogue ever. I also understand the old ride was far too complex and kept breaking. That said, the new ride does lack eye candy which was one of the best things about the old ride but no one said the imagination was just about giving us lots of things to look at.
My only REAL complaint is the lack of anything interesting in the new imageworks. I still find the ride itself fun *especially better than the second one* but If any place lacks imagination, it's the new imageworks
Thank you SO much for posting this! I went to Epcot a few weeks back and was really disappointed with what they've done to the Imagination complex. It was so much better when I was a kid. The top floor isn't even open anymore. I hope they have plans to bring it back to it's former glory. Disney seems to have gone to more flatscreen tv's around the park than animatronics. I think they're getting lazy perhaps. :(
Actually, the part where you are going into the ride itself, there was a walkway there that cast members used to go to the break room. I had just started working there and she introduced herself. Best job; pay sucked though.
Ok, think I'll clarily the replies I made. This is definately NOT a complaint and I loved seeing this. But this is not the full, original ride. At 5 min in, the ride changed to a Kodak theme with the music "Making Memories." Even w/out that part it was a million times better and Eisner stormed off when he saw the redo. So did I, but I think they noticed him more hehe.
Glad to hear they are trying again...wish they would just bring the 1st one back. Anyone know the plans??
The Making Memories song you are referring to with the Kodak theme was not ever part of the attraction itself. There was no Kodak theme ever on the actual ride. The song you are referring to is currently featured in the preshow for HISTA next door.
Sorry, I haven't watched the comments page here in a while, I forgot to say that I was proven wrong apparently, and I think there WON'T be a new version, considering the timeframe
This was one of the best rides at EPCOT. EPCOT was awesome in the 80's! Could someone please tell me why they changed it to the awful new version? It even smelled good. Remember? It was like grape Mr. Bubble!
I heard a lot of stuff with Kodak not being able to continue sponsorship because of financial problems. However, with the opening of PhilharMagic (also sponsored by Kodak) around the same time as Imagination closed, I don't know how much truth there is there. Also heard Eisner didn't like the attraction nor the characters of Dreamfinder or Figment. That's why the second reincarnation of the ride had neither of the characters. Those are just rumors though.
I did some research and you were correct about Eisner. Apparently he had the idea of tying every attraction at WDW to a movie. That way it would increase sales of the movies and the merchandise along with it. Figment and Dreamfinder were not tied to a movie but the the British comedian, (forgot his name), was a part of a Disney owned movie that had just come out at the time. The movie was terrible.
Actually you got the Eisner stuff backwards. When he saw the 2nd version he stormed off in a huff, disgusted at how much worse they made it after taking Figment out of it. I'm 100% sure of this since I remain a loyal Figgie fan and still miss the original ride. Just wish Eisner stopped the maddness BEFORE they destroyed the 1st version, which to me was done in classic Disney style and I adored it!
Anyway if you and the post below check you'll see it was the 2nd ride Eisner hated!
One more point (and btw the post I referred to below is now above my reply LOL).
Prior the them destroying it with with 1st refurbishment, the Kodak part of the ride, where the music changed to "Making Memories" had already been pulled and they had slapped some nonsense in. So there was a gaping hole for a chunk of the ride. Rather than fix that, they destroyed the entire thing IMHO. But it ran for at least a year or 2 like that, so while Kodak def figured in, it was more complicated.
I've been going to WDW, from Italy, for 23 years every year and miss Epcot's old rides. These new generations are destroying everything, they have no truly good ideas and can't say they are creative.
@almiriade I disagree with your and the others' overly-negative stances.
I also agree with DragonRider that the current version of JII is pretty good and is something much closer to the original than the highly-maligned 1999 redo was.
The new version also fits Epcot's theming very well.

@DisneyfanBeckers same thing happened to me, then i realized i didnt have both earbuds in! so, maybe one of your speakers doesnt work?
npsalm121 1 year ago
@npsalm121 Actually that is exactly correct. I was watching it on my brother's computer and the speakers are part of the monitor. They are not doing well, so fortunately one of the computers has a separately-installed Altec Lansing speaker system that has been doing great and lets me hear that cute little voice!!! But sadly it does not sound that way on the ride anymore. It sounds more mature and less fun, a perfect match for today's version.

Hopefully this version or at least something similar to this one will return to Epcot very soon because since there version of Captain EO returned July 2,2010.
WDI2008 1 year ago
@WDI2008 They are returning Captain EO for a year because Michael Jackson died. A cast member told me that it would be a year. What do you think they will do at the end of that time: Bring back Honey I Shrunk The Audience or try to make something new (which may fail depending on what they put)?
DisneyfanBeckers 1 year ago
@DisneyfanBeckers I wish they kept Honey I shrunk the Audience
Hallamfoebell 11 months ago
@Hallamfoebell The return of Captain EO is only temporary and they brought it back because Michael Jackson died. I now see that this is a chance to live part of old Epcot, so I'm gonna see it next time. But I do miss the area music from Honey I Shrunk the Audience. There was a mysterious absence of the music, then I saw the Captain EO sign. And today Mickey's Toontown Fair closes to be built over by Fantasyland... I will post a video of the Barnstormer that I took last summer as a tribute.
DisneyfanBeckers 11 months ago
@DisneyfanBeckers I wonder if Rick Moranis dies then will they put up Honey I shrunk the Audience? Okay what about the living body wars is that still up? Where we are the kids eyes? I dont think its the body wars but its near there.
Hallamfoebell 11 months ago
@Hallamfoebell I am sorry but honest to say that last time I was at Epcot in November, I wanted to go into the Wonders of Life building to see if anything was still there, but the only original thing in sight was a mobile on the ceiling. The place is now used as a festival center for the Food&Wine and International Flower and Garden Festivals. My dad pointed out where the old rides and shows were, and those places were roped off. Btw I've posted my Barnstormer video if you're interested.
DisneyfanBeckers 11 months ago
@DisneyfanBeckers Man that sucks they should give everyone a dvd of the shows and a map of things they dismantle. whats the barnstormer video? So we dont get to see Rick or Robin in Journey into imagniation ride just Eric Idle? Is the interactive stuff upstairs still there?
Hallamfoebell 11 months ago
@Hallamfoebell it has not been removed, but only a downstairs portion of Imageworks is open. And the Barnstormer video is Goofy's Barnstormer June 2010 on my channel.

@DisneyfanBeckers Is China the world show case still open?
Hallamfoebell 11 months ago
@Hallamfoebell Yes. If you want to know what's open and what everything is like today, you can go to the Disney World website. Epcot's International Flower and Garden Festival is coming soon. And if you want a rush, go up to the url on this video page, delete 7nhEEBPnuro and paste KlLvKPYdzkQ in its place. It's not violent or anything, but the first time you see it it may seem pretty scary. It's a preview for the Star Wars the Clone Wars three-part special. It has me worried for those Jedi X_x
DisneyfanBeckers 11 months ago
@DisneyfanBeckers What about those professors at Hogwarts? I will proably go 2012 next potter convention. are you sad to see the old attractions gone/ I am. Whats the Garden festival like?
Hallamfoebell 11 months ago
@Hallamfoebell I know almost nothing about Harry Potter. The Flower and Garden Festival has lots of flowers, plants, and character-shaped bushes called topiaries, you can learn about different plants and flowers, there are children's activities like crafts (I made a pipecleaner rose once), and gardening advice and products. It's a beautiful time to see Epcot. The Land pavilion has a "Behind the Seeds" tour available any day, showing neat agricultural studies. Also did you see the Clone Wars vid?
DisneyfanBeckers 11 months ago
@DisneyfanBeckers Oh I vaguley remember that one is that the one with alligators in tanks you can see and the vegatables are growing not in the ground? Is that still in operation? The only behind the scenes I have done is the Scuba diving at Epcot. I heard now its all about the business. Which is sad since I wanted the soaps and Shampoo and Conditioner you could have taken home and the T-shirt you used to get.
Hallamfoebell 11 months ago
@Hallamfoebell Well, the ride you are thinking of is a boat ride called "Living With The Land". It is still open, and it is only one of the rides inside The Land building. There are also a couple of restaurants called Sunshine Seasons and Garden Grill, and a couple other attractions, Soarin' and Circle of Life.
DisneyfanBeckers 11 months ago
@DisneyfanBeckers So those are there right?
Hallamfoebell 11 months ago
@Hallamfoebell Yes, and everything that is at Disney World is on their website. Oh and this is for Imagination: recently I have seen pictures of the Dreamfinder around Epcot like at the Imageworks gift shop and Mouse Gear, a large gift store in Future World. The pictures were just put up around 2010, and I have heard rumors about another refurb to make Imagination more like the original. I hope they do it!

actually, usually there's NOBODY in line anymore. but maybe if they bring captain like they're doing to disneyland to replace huney, i shrunk the audience, they might update the ride and make a 4th version and bring back dreamfinder! :D
funspot101 2 years ago
@funspot101

I'm hoping with Lasseter revamping CA Adventure that he'll come through EPCOT and do some improvements. Just kills me they took out this ride since it was so timeless. Since when does imagination ever become dated?
brandnewjenn 2 years ago
Don't get me wrong, Figment is my favorite character and Journey Into Imagination is (was...) my favorite ride, but the first (and last) time I went back in '98 NO ONE except me and my family were riding it. Imagination might be timeless, but before they replaced the old one hardly anyone cared about it anymore.
That's not to say if they brought it back no one would ride it now, however...

TriAngle1614 3 years ago 2
there are rumors that in the 2002 version whoever was in charge made the last scene as more of an insult to Figment fans rather than a finalie .... like a "Oh! You wanted Figment back? Oh! well there you go here's a whole room full of him!!!"
kind of thing ... >=P
MoNzTeR969 2 years ago
Yes, I've heard rumors like that.
Yeah... he might laughed his ass off and saying to Figment fans "Don't worry, Figgy Fanboys. I'm laughing at you, not with you! That's what you get from bitching at Journey Into Your Imagination!"
It's nice for Whoeva Whatshisname to resurrect Figment, but do we need to have a bunch of Figment Clones sing like they are at the wrong attraction?
TriAngle1614 2 years ago
you are aware that the finale in the original journey into imagination was filled with figment too right T_T

skullbasher115 1 year ago
@Dragonrider1227 That's how it is with most Disney sequels. It's rare that one is as good as the first movie.
I really miss this ride; it was my favorite as a child. The Image Works was amazing, and I loved the lights on the floor that made music, but now they're all just awful, terrible noise! D:
CrystalChord2010 1 year ago
Disney has a way of creating something that is incredible, then abandoning it when they find something else that gets their attention. Problem is, those shiney things often kill the original. Look at the latest sequels over the past 10 years. HoND is another example. They had a great thing with Figment and wrecked it. This attraction came into my life when I needed it most. I rode it continuously and created beautiful artwork after. The inspiration is in the heart.
pralikano 3 years ago
What's HoND? ??? But anyway, I gotta admit that when I rode the original in '90 (I was six at the time) it did inspire me to want to use my imagination quite a bit more than the new one does. I thought maybe that was 'cause I was getting older though ^^; All the original ride needed IMHO was better dialogue and perhaps to be shorter.
Dragonrider1227 3 years ago
in a way though, we should possibily count our blessings. I read somewhere that if they hadn't made these changes, then they would've lost Kodak's sponsorship and the only other company interested in sponsorship (Fujifilm I think) wanted to turn it into some generic Roller Coaster
Dragonrider1227 3 years ago
This ride ROCKED the way it was. I contacted Kodak after it closed the first time. They told me they felt the ride needed updating, that they were sure that Figment fans would love it. They assured me that the new ride would remain true to Disney traditions, but that they felt it was time for a change. After seeing the first reopening, I complained to management. I got an email from Kodak saying they were going to change it to add more Figment. They changed it again, but..they just don't get it.
pralikano 3 years ago 2
Well, let's not kid ourselves. As good as this ride was, as much as it gave us, it had it's flaws. The dialogue for instance was some of the most CORNIEST dialogue ever. I also understand the old ride was far too complex and kept breaking. That said, the new ride does lack eye candy which was one of the best things about the old ride but no one said the imagination was just about giving us lots of things to look at.
Dragonrider1227 3 years ago
My only REAL complaint is the lack of anything interesting in the new imageworks. I still find the ride itself fun *especially better than the second one* but If any place lacks imagination, it's the new imageworks

Thank you SO much for posting this! I went to Epcot a few weeks back and was really disappointed with what they've done to the Imagination complex. It was so much better when I was a kid. The top floor isn't even open anymore. I hope they have plans to bring it back to it's former glory. Disney seems to have gone to more flatscreen tv's around the park than animatronics.
VeryFineWhine 4 years ago
The Making Memories song you are referring to with the Kodak theme was not ever part of the attraction itself. There was no Kodak theme ever on the actual ride. The song you are referring to is currently featured in the preshow for HISTA next door.

castellariclan 4 years ago 2
I heard a lot of stuff with Kodak not being able to continue sponsorship because of financial problems. However, with the opening of PhilharMagic (also sponsored by Kodak) around the same time as Imagination closed, I don't know how much truth there is there. Also heard Eisner didn't like the attraction nor the characters of Dreamfinder or Figment. That's why the second reincarnation of the ride had neither of the characters. Those are just rumors though.
Sorria86 4 years ago
I did some research and you were correct about Eisner. Apparently he had the idea of tying every attraction at WDW to a movie. That way it would increase sales of the movies and the merchandise along with it. Figment and Dreamfinder were not tied to a movie but the the British comedian, (forgot his name), was a part of a Disney owned movie that had just come out at the time. The movie was terrible.
castellariclan 4 years ago
Actually you got the Eisner stuff backwards. When he saw the 2nd version he stormed off in a huff, disgusted at how much worse they made it after taking Figment out of it. I'm 100% sure of this since I remain a loyal Figgie fan and still miss the original ride. Just wish Eisner stopped the maddness BEFORE they destroyed the 1st version, which to me was done in classic Disney style and I adored it!
Anyway if you and the post below check you'll see it was the 2nd ride Eisner hated!
VeryFineWhine 4 years ago
One more point (and btw the post I referred to below is now above my reply LOL).
Prior the them destroying it with with 1st refurbishment, the Kodak part of the ride, where the music changed to "Making Memories" had already been pulled and they had slapped some nonsense in. So there was a gaping hole for a chunk of the ride. Rather than fix that, they destroyed the entire thing IMHO. But it ran for at least a year or 2 like that, so while Kodak def figured in, it was more complicated.
VeryFineWhine 4 years ago
I've been going to WDW, from Italy, for 23 years every year and miss Epcot's old rides. These new generations are destroying everything, they have no truly good ideas and can't say they are creative.
almiriade 3 years ago 2
@almiriade I disagree with your and the others' overly-negative stances.
I also agree with DragonRider that the current version of JII is pretty good and is something much closer to the original than the highly-maligned 1999 redo was.
The new version also fits Epcot's theming very well.
