  • Virginia Tech was a gun FREE ZONE.

It was that that made the murder spree so big, nobody on campus could gun that maniac down in time.

  • @bruiser07. Yet another lame statement by a dumocrat...just go back to bed.

  • I see the college education paid off for a couple idiots lol. A bad grade...? Wow lol...if a criminal pulls a gun, and 24 lawfully armed students pull on he/she, the criminal, I'd say that the criminal would surrender unless they simply have a death wish. Think about this, a dead criminal, or your son on daughter just before their wedding, or birthday..who do you really want to see? My money is on the law abiding gun rights carrying student or students :)

  • And a black man is worried about being shot...

  • hmm students with guns in campus.. people generally arent very reliably sane when it comes to these issues. it would be better to just have more cops on campus because A: they can legally carry bigger guns in public. and B: they have more extensive training than any civillian institution has to offer.

  • @metalraider187 im currently in the police academy and the firearms training i have had from my CPL class is nearly identical to the taining in the acadamy. Its not just students carying, anyone over 21 who has a valid CPL permit can carry. And no one is going to risk losing their CPL for something stupid that they did. UT colleges have had this in law for awhile now, and they have had 0 incidents, and have seen a decrease in crime on campus.

  • @pbstarkiller i didnt know that, thanks.

But what i meant by cop training is more than just firearms training, they know how to detain someone with or without a gun and do it safely which is the most important.

  • @metalraider187 true, but we are allowed to use leathal force when mine or some one elses life is is iminent danger. Yes we can try to detain them, but we are justified to shoot until the threat is stopped if they pose a lethal threat.

  • @pbstarkiller yea but regardless of whether or not lethal force is justified you know every person shot dead whether they deserved it or not becomes a fucking media circus, its like either action causes instability on this issue.

  • @metalraider187 id rather it be the criminal shot dead than me or a random student

  • @metalraider187

The concept of liberty is very simple: Each individual has rights. Each individual has the freedom to make decisions for their lives. Government does not.

I actually carry a larger caliber than most police in my state. Also, police do not automatically get more training than civilians. Most police departments hold bi-annual qualifications and quarterly shoots. As a citizen, I guarantee I get MUCH more range time than police do.

  • the reporter says "if properly trained and licensed they should have access to handguns"

1st off you need a CHL (License) to carry (even on campus). To get a CHL you need to take a class course test and written/multiple question test, finger printing, and to see if your mentally dependent or not. so having a CHL says enough that you know better and properly trained.

  • Nobodys gonna be shooting anybody over a bad grade. Jeezus woman!

    Use your brain!

  • Yes I agree, most students who would go through the trouble to get a concealed carry permit and hardware to carry a weapon are going to shoot their professor if they fail an exam. Come on people! That's about like saying if I have a gun in my glovebox and someone cuts me off in traffic I'm going to follow them home and shoot them. Those who carry weapons protect themselves and those around them. Some people just don't get it. The 2nd amendment is there for a reason.

  • Why do people still take Texas seriously?

The state is a total joke.

  • @kirbyman1kanden7pf Because we Texans have watched you liberal gun hating states and how your schools keep getting shot up. We don't want that shit happening here, so we're making it legal for law abiding students who have passed the neccessary federal background checks to be armed & have a way to protect themselves in case some nutjob does go whacko and tries to open up on students. If you hate Texas so much, why watch news updates about us? Go blow your boyfriend and update ur twitter acount.

  • @centurion205 bullshit. This is so the NRA's members can sell more guns.

  • @kirbyman1kanden7pf We don't need new laws to sell guns. Obama's victory spiked gun sales two years ago. Guns have been selling like hotcakes since, and come November of next year, gun sales will spike again. Why? Cause every time a gun hating liberal Democrat is is office, there's always a risk of new and even more socialist gun laws that make it harder on law abiding gun owners. Guns sold when Clinton was in office, so it's not just due to race.

  • I wonder will the teacher even DARE to kick the stundent out of the class? Or i guess the teacher has a machine gun.

  • "SAY A TEACHER GIVES A STUDENT A BAD GRADE" Lady Your stupid. The CHL holders in this state are a little smarter than that and sane my dear. Accept this we need to be able to bring our weapons everywhere. We might end up saving your life.

  • If Texas is this unsafe that u need to carry a gun, than you will never see me moving there. I thought we left the wild west in the past?!!

  • @centurion205 And why REDNECKS think they have to use the F-bomb and other filthy comments to get there point across is beyond me. And i will stay in my state because there IS no need to "protect" ourselves.

  • @doughboy22222222 You're wrong. In 1986, there were 26 states that were "May issue" and 15 "No-issue" as far as right-to-carry. As of 2011, there were 8 "May issue" and 2 "No-issue" (WI & IL) & WI is in the process of changing. IL will soon be the only state in the dark ages. 36 states are "shall issue" up from 8 in 1986 & 4 are "unrestricted" up from 1. Why the change? Because that's what law abiding people want. They're defending their rights. Do you think criminals will apply for permits?

  • hahaha how can you actually argue that allowing people to have guns is going to bring up violence? IF YOUR GONNA KILL PEOPLE, YOUR GONNA GOT A GUN REGARDLESS OF WHETHER OR NOT ANYONE SAYS YOU CAN. As if its that hard to get a gun in texas and put it in your backpack. YEA RIGHT! I don't trust the friggin government to protect me. History has shown that more people die under the rule of big government, than at the hands of their neighbors.

  • I'm a ccw holder and a college student and i have to either leave my gun at home or find a parking spot off campus and leave my gun in my car. If i could carry and someone "pulled out a gun for no reason" and he started firing id shoot to kill and not feel bad . And honestly if i get a bad grade im gonna start channeling very directed agression towards a teacher aimlessly among the student body, come on. And how logical is it for me to ruin my life by killing someone versus just walking away.

  • If people are all of a sudden allowed to carry guns and they "get mad or get a bad grade and will all of a sudden have guns their reaction will first be a bad one and they are going to pull out their gun and start shooting people", then why has this type of shooting NEVER happened at schools that do allow guns on campus? This type of crime does not happen, yet this is always the first reaction of people that are afraid of responsible people allowed to carry guns! ignorance is not bliss it's sad

  • Raquel Miller; your a dumbass

  • Youcan argue all day about whether this should be allowed or whether it should be outlawed but at the end of the day the hard facts tell the story (no pun intended) and these facts show that more people carrying firearms ersults in less crime.

  • Education about the issues is critical. A good article would talk about how concealed carry permit holders are shown by history to be very lawful and considered people, how often citizens use guns in defense, how they're careful and responsible about it.

If people complain about someone pulling it for no reason, ask them if they know that person would be charged and forbidden to carry/own a gun from then on, how seldom permit holders do any such thing.

  • College students....have any of you ever felt angry enough to kill your professor after a test? Seriously that girl needs to fuck off.

  • That girl in red was a total moron. She barely speaks English and she wants to decide the fate of other people? Pass the law. Let the anti gun sheep move to a "safe" place, like LA, or Chicago. Lots of laws there. As they leave, they will be replaced by honest, law abiding gun owners. As always happens, crime rates will fall.

  • Gun control=A shooter's best friend.

  • Campus carry sounds great in Texas but I am more interested in the Texas open carry bill. Gun owners have more options this way and even if one is in a place were you are prohibited to carry the fact that criminals sees others carrying very near by would make them think twice.

over all open carry would be a good starting point to get guns into other places when gun hates see that guns have become part of who we are like the constitution meant it to be.

  • If this law was passed a little earlier, this tragedy may have been somewhat averted.

  • Laws don't stop criminals. Ever. But Armed Citizens do Stop Criminals, Always. The most pitiful, morally reprehensible and contemptible thing was to see law enforcement take HOURS to stop the shooting at Virgina Tech. Your on your own students. I hope the students in the video think things through, not go with their Federal School Training of guns are evil. If you get a gun, get the best training you can afford so you don't look like a fool.

  • I'm 18 I can die for my country I can kill for my country why can't I have the same rights as people that are 21 and older???

  • Don't like it? GTFO! How many trained and licensed gun CHL carriers just fly off the handle for no reason? I've never heard of any.

  • Shall Not Be Infringed! Imaginary lines such as campus boundaries should mean nothing!!!

  • that black girl has no idea what shes talking about. They have had a law in Alaska now that you can Conceal Carry without a permit and we dont have nearly the kind of violence as the lower 48...... An armed Sociaty is a polite Sociaty

  • guess these morons dont understand a criminal will carry a handgun whether the law says they can or not and the only difference is the ones of us who follow the law will not be able to defend ourselves in case a criminal does decide to bring a weapon, and who the hell ever killed a teacher for a bad grade, what a joke!

  • The two black people, who hate this idea... I bet they will be the first ones to yell, "HELP ME!" when someone walks in and starts shooting. Tell that one black guy thats will leave the school over it... that I heard Virginia Tech has 30 something empty seats to fill, he can try to get in there. (And I mean no disrespect to the families and friends that lost someone in that tragedy)

This is simple people, every mass killing you see... ITS IN A NO GUN ZONE!!!

Why do you think that is?!

  • You have to go through a lot of backrgound checks to get one!! They din't talk to people who are Texans!!!

  • i think it should be passed!!!!check out my channe if you agree!!!!also asociatedpress can you tell me wat happens with this bill?

  • Lets say it passes then some 100 students go off getting gun to carry. WHO IN THE HELL GONNA go AROUND CHECK THESE STUDENTS?

  • The other students with guns. If 90% of people are good shouldnt they have as much power as the other 10%?????

  • Way to go Texas. Lets hope others can work to save our condtitutional rights.

  • I think it is great and if you look at all the places that outlaw guns you'll see crimes have gone way up. People need to protect themselves and hold on to the 2nd amendment.

  • @daileysmokinjo yeah ok Hoss.

  • @daileysmokinjo not in any European country.

  • Guns keep us safe from others with guns, and governments gone wild. I'm talking Hitler wild. Remember Hitler disarmed the sitting ducks, I mean people, then he exterminated 40 million innocents.

  • This is a good idea. I'd much rather have my kids on a campus where there are law-abiding students w carry permits. Let the perps guess who's packing heat. Most concealed-carry training programs do a great job of teaching when NOT to shoot, & people who go to the trouble to get training & certification are not the problem. Why don't you ask the police to leave their weapon at the station when they come on campus to respond? Would that make you feel safer, too?

  • wow republicans proving their stupidity once again. i'm sure some kid with a concealed handgun and no combat experience or law enforcement training is really going to stop some maniac with an assault rifle and a bullet proof vest in a class room. more than likely the person with the handgun is going to accidentally shoot one of their innocent classmates, draw attention to himself and then be wiped out by the assault rifle toting psycho.

  • hahaha maybe now teachers will stop abusing their authority.

  • Raquel ! Say one of those Rednecks you go to school w/ pull out his piece. Remember that movie "HIGHER LEARNING"?

  • If passed, not a smar move; was considering Texas for grad school but definitely out of the question now. The whole country is slowly turning paranoid.

  • It will only escalate from here...

  • sounds good to me

  • i love Texas.

  • I also love Texas, but anyone who believes in any God should never be allowed to take office. It's obvious that God is only used as a political excuse for corruption and hyporcrisy. It is usually the case that the Godless are twice as trustworthy as the faithful.

  • Only reason why you need a gun at school is to protect yourself from others who also brought guns to school.

    Very bad idea Texas...

  • yes, very bad idea. i mean, why want to protect yourself after things like v tech and northern illinois? i think we should only allow the deranged and criminal to carry guns.

  • this is a good thing... Course id carry mine weather it was a law or not...

  • Ok, a lot of stupid comments, but the first culprit in this is the poor reporting. On August 1st, 1966 Charles Whitman opened fire on the campus of University of Texas in Austin from an observation deck on the 28th floor of the administration building.

Now we have the people that don't understand the concealed license requirements. I'm not going to go through them because if this issue was actually important to you then you'd look it up yourself instead of making blind claims.

  • Maybe there could be some kind of remotely activated trapping or containing device. You don't have to have a gun fight just because another person has a gun, You could have something other than flying bullets. You could have directable sound or light waves.. I heard that can disable. Guns / Bombs Nooo forget it.

  • This has got to be one of the worst ideas in the history of bad ideas. Why would a student need to carry a concealed weapon at a university? Some might argue that it's all about personal safety or second amendment rights, but there needs to be a limit. It's bad enough that someone can bring a gun illegally on campus, but this bill may be the catalyst for future school shootings. I'm not saying everyone with a concealed weapons license will commit crime, but why take a chance.

  • What's with the US? Why on earth would anyone need to have a gun on campus? The pro-gun people say it's to protect yourself against other people with guns on campus? WTF. In every other place in the world, civilized people don't need guns, and the unfortunate people who do need guns wish they lived in a place where they didn't need them.

  • Great idea........not. The people who shoot up schools have not feared death(kinda like most religions). Most of them write notes or make vids and count on dying. When a gun goes off. A person does not look around to see who he is shooting at. They will just fire at the "supposed" assailant. Not knowing if he is helping. And the most worrisome problem of a gun man is ammo shortage. It'll be like war time kill a man take his gun. Gun "accidents" on campus will become the norm.

  • idiots. this is the same state that has a creationist as the head of education......just so you understand how things work in texas

  • yes, i know, because someone being a creationist means they're an awful person. anyone who believes in any God must not be allowed to hold any office of power.

  • I'm glad I live in democratic NewYork

  • I'm NOT!!!!

  • Me too I love my dysfunctional state.

  • It is sad to think that even our universities have now become so dangerous that people think allowing concealed weapons in the classroom is the right thing. I don't, I believe universities will have to become like many public schools and have metal detectors at entrances. You don't have to worry about the sane people carrying the guns. You have to worry about the one insane one carrying the semi-auto. that kills 2 or 3 before someone can fire back & what about crossfire friendly fire deaths?

  • Campuses make good places for mass shootings since everyone there is defenseless. Many lives could have been saved already if concealed carry was allowed on campus.

  • Favorited for the guy saying, "anyone that wants to walk on could just do it."

that alone, gives me the heeby jeebies.

  • dude imagine a fight ...its gonna go wild west style

  • HURRAY!!! A step in the right direction !!!!

I'm very glad to here this

  • Only in my home state could this bullshit actually pass.

  • GOOD!!!!!

  • The 2nd amendment works you freaking socialists! Admit it!

Good citizens that are armed will work.

Declaring no weapons at school just takes away guns from the good people and we all know the criminals aren't gonna follow that law so let's have the people that follow the law have guns.

Let's not give the criminals a free pass to shoot up a school.

The 2nd amendment works and our founding fathers a geniuses.

  • Will the students be in an "organized militia"?

That's what the second amendment stipulates. Aren't conservatives supposed to be strict constructionists?

  • This is a great idea in my opinion.

Because you'll have people with a concealed carry license who are over 21 with guns.

A person that goes through the whole legal process is most likely not a criminal.

And with the passing of this measure...a big warning would go out to any students planning on shooting up a school.

And this measure would provide a wonderful deterent...not only as a threat and a warning to an assailant but it woulf provide defense for the school during shootings.

    Go texas!

  • alex3914

They may not be a criminal if they pass the concealed license process, but what about someone who seriously loses it over something like a breakup and is in the same class as their former girlfriend or boyfriend? Or worse yet the same class as the ex and their new love interest? People lose it all the time and do dumb things. It could be a real mess...I'm for metal detectors at all building entrances and no guns!

  • good point. There are already kids going to school with those same issues. Then taking it out on every one they can. what this does is allow one to protect themselves against those that are going to come in and start shooting up the place.

  • Crime on campus will decrease. It is an excellent idea.

Forget about the Fear Brokers. This is what America was built on.

  • Thats texas, they need to find a way to kill their kids faster, rather than train cops better

  • Sure, because cops just teleport to the location of a crime in an instant like in Star Trek and save the day with their government magic!

  • one more thought. how are more bullets flying around going to help in the event of a school shooting? won't that increase the odds of injury and/or death?

  • It's a deterent.

And a good citixen won't be shooting that gun.

And you think the criminals are going to follow the gun control laws?

    You're damn skippy they won't.

    That's why.

    And you just learned something.

    Freedom works.

  • BOMBS WORK TOO! THATS NEXT UP AFTER GUNS damn skippy

  • BOMBS WORK TOO! THATS NEXT UP AFTER GUNS damn skippy

  • @hellsday wow youre dumb

  • wow. you know they say its so the students can defend themselves, but today's society is so damn law suit happy that i bet even if someone was just defending themselves the family of whoever was shot would probably sue anyways.

  • WTF?? "if properly trained and lisenced" seems like a bit of an understatement. How many university students are "properly trained" with firearms and "properly trained" to engage a shooting psycho on a rampage? This law is beyond ridiculous. Not only will the disturbed kids be able to walk around campus with a handgun freely but so will a bunch of immature wannabe self-proclaimed heros. These young "heros" will likelier put themeselves in harm's way because of the false comfort of a gun.

  • Just wait until someone gets killed... thats when these idiots learn.

  • lets have Semi automatic weapons in hospitals too? Why not elementary schools as well, old people homes, and day care centers. There is ALWAYS the possibility of someone being nuts and brining a gun to those places, so we might as well have "safety guns" like we have safety axes. This is all nonsense.

  • Slippery Slope

  • It's called the 2nd Amendment.

  • "in an organized militia"

    I don't think so.

  • So 1, undiagnosed/undocumented mentally ill person can carry a gun on campus. I'm all for defending oneself but all it takes is a mentally unstable person and someone will be dead.

  • If they are mentally ill and want to shoot someone, do you think guns being illegal on campus will stop them from killing people anyway?

  • This bill is for you, professors who want to give to much homework!!!

  • MWAHAHAHA! Hell yeah! You better delay the due date of that term paper... or else!

  • thats whats up!!

"Oh so you wont go out with me"

*click click*.. "whats up now bitch!!!!"

or "You gave me an F I think you made a mistake this should be an A"

*Click" "I really think you should consider making this an A"

  • Damn, Texas owns...........

  • THIS is absolutely ludicrous who the hell thought this idea up anyway? Im well aware that if a student is pissed or w/e they can just go and get a gun, but if hes pissed and he has the fucking thing on him already...........wow this is just dumb bad texas! Bad bad texas!

  • at least someone can fire back if shit pops off lol

  • crazy.
