Ignore Everyone you done the right thing to stop her from rearing like only pulling One rein! You are brillaint for Staying on and she didnt fall so i dont know what there chatting about!! x
put your hands forward when it rears and sit to it and deal with the bigger wen it comes down, my pony used to rear its not a problem unless you dont do anything about it
oh wow. im glad he's recovering from Foundering...I'm actually dealing with a horse who is Foundering so bad its in all four legs now! DX he's been so uncomfortable...we actually have him in a sling to relieve the pain...lol thats one feisty pony! haha i hope he's doing better! goodluck and goodjob at staying on!
Yes, you must pull the head to one side - even if their front legs are already up it throws them of balance. Then keep the head and neck bent to one side and kick until the horse goes forward, repeat every time the little bugger rears. In flatwork make sure your horse goes forward when you ask, remember he's got to stop to rear...

@iButterscotch If you don't pull their head to one side or the other then they can just as easily go over on you. Doing nothing is just as bad. If you get a horse's head to your knee they can't really do much of anything =] Control the head, control the beast.
@Riyzen i no this sounds weird but dont call a horse BEAST. and ibutterscotch is rite dont pull just lean forward and wait try 2 calm the horse by speakin nicely and try not 2 pannick
Cute horse! My horse rears when he is scared too so i decided to teach him how to do it on the ground on command and now he only rears acasionally :D I have a vid on my channel.
Well done for staying on. My pony rears on command, but every so often if i forget that she does rear and ask her to back up for example, she will just go straight up. Also if ive just finished having a gallop in one of the fields, she gets so exited that she goes up,slams back down, goes back up, slams back down for about 2 minutes...Its so frustrating :) x
well ridden..you almost came off but manged to stay on so congrats..my horse did this when a car wentpast..she was fine then BAM and over..my mum sold her :'(
If I were your mum I'd be a bit worried about your pony's liking for rearing. Afraid you lost the battle when she initially stopped. From that moment she was in charge. Noticed how she didn't respond to your kicks after she stopped - not good. Have few lessons so you can be quicker/more responsive so the rearing doesn't get worse. Otherwise she may come down on top of you.
nice riding. one of my ponys founders and i may be able to start riding him soon to. he spooks bad but nothing like that. nice job and good job keeping him from flipping.
I agree, the moment you allow them look at the "scary thing" it gives them the chance to spook and do someting that can result is someone getting hurt. Just keep them going and don't make a big fuss over the scary thing.
actually, what I do is I make them stare at the scary thing. If you dont say, theres a car coming by, you dont want to back him into a corner with his butt facing it. That'll only scare him because it limits what he sees :) but if you let him look at it and act like nothings wrong, they get the message and will only stare it down :]
I agree whenever my pony spooks I also turn him to look at the 'scary thing' then he realises 'actually its not that scary, i was just being stupid. as usual.'
my horse scares at a certaqin corner in the riding school cos it has a big bush and when its windy it sounds reli freaky and he just bolts, hes even worse when we are going into a jump so i just walk him really slowly past it again and again until he doesnt spook :)
AMAZING BALANCE! I remember I once rode a horse bareback through my friend's pasture and I turned the horse around to go fetch a dog, I almost fell off. I have no balance anymore!! XD You have guts!
I must say ... its all in the moment isn't it .. You shouldn't of pulled back at the start but most people would of done that ... i would of lol but you were brill to regain his balance especially without falling off..
actually the best thing to do with a rearing horse is to drop the contact.if you jag a rearing horses mouth he is gonna fall backwards.Lolz anyways im not here to preach!
I was pulling on only ONE rein. I was trying to pull his head to the side to stop him from rearing since he wouldn't go forward. If you've ever ridden difficult horses you know the safest thing to do if have their head at your knee, and them moving in a circle. Once he reared I pulled to the side to unbalance him so he would go to the SIDE instead of going over. So yes, I did unbalance him, but for the right reasons and with the correct affect.
That is what you are meant to do when a horse rears, the idea is that they spin in a tight circle, thus are forced to put all 4 feet on the ground and cant rear again, it looks like he is spooked by something (most likely the camera person) and the wind doesnt exactly help, well done for staying on and handling the situation! your pone is so cute!!! Ox
i agree, i had a "evil" pony whio i think was dropped on her head as a baby! lol. In reality she had had a very poor upbringing and had been numerously beaten and broken in horrifically. makes it understandable why she hated people after all that!
Well done for staying on, you look like a nice quiet rider xx

nice job staying on! i had a DEVIL pony named Remcp(atually he belonged to the barn i ride at) did not do a thing you wanted him to do! My trainer had touble ridng him! They wound up selling him to a boy who rode in rodeos and he is actually happier doing what he loves, torturing little kids! hahaaha he is actually mean in his stall or paddock too he bites sooo hard! Anyways tht horse i BEAUTIFUL but i love my pony and cant afford another one!
This is a very general and uneducated statement. Appaloosas are very intelligent and lovely horses. Any horse can spook at something, especially after 2 years of no riding.
