@animefreak1297 Hi there. The reason to why they are singing in a made up language is to make a more soothing sound, and to make the words flow better with the music. It's actually not far from what many other artists do. Not all lyrics makes sense, they just flow with the music.
@jedissson Hi there! I know that. I wasn't referring to this song. I was referring to other songs where they are singing in Volenska. If you read the discussion further down, you'll see what I mean. :)
I stood there, in front, shedding tears, among all the other people doing the same. Felt awkward but the atmosphere was so indescribably beautiful that there was no other logical thing to do. Rationality just quit itself in a moment of surrender to nothing but pure emotion. Damn. Best concert ever.
so i was just informed that he is not saying real words. now i respect and listen to all kinds of music, but wtf. that's not music, it's like playing a record and having a baby talk over it. it makes absoloutley no sense. at all.
@animefreak1297 So it's not a real language. Who cares? This band has produced some of the most beautiful sounds I have ever heard, and if that's not music I'd like to see your definition.
@animefreak1297 This song is sung entirely in Icelandic, as are parts and entire songs on other CDs of their. The rest of the songs are left to a made up language referred to as Vonlenska or Hopelandic....
@animefreak1297 It's not only real words, but they're beautiful, IMHO. To roughly translate, it starts out "Now you wake / everything seems changed / I peer out / but I can see nothing", and continues on up to the first chorus: "En hvar ert þu?" -- literally, "But where are you?" This changes in the second chorus to "En hér ert þu, finnst mér / En hér ert þu, glósóli" ("But here you are, I feel / But here you are, a glowing sun"). The song is a metaphor between a woman and the rising sun.
@xfallofmanx oh wow. well at least anime is a real thing. and I'm not gonna be too offended to be insulted by someone who has shitty drum playing videos on their channel. Kbye.
@animefreak1297 Hi there. The reason to why they are singing in a made up language is to make a more soothing sound, and to make the words flow better with the music. It's actually not far from what many other artists do. Not all lyrics makes sense, they just flow with the music.
@animefreak1297 Jonsi sings a majority of Sigur Ros songs in a made-up language called Volenska, or "Hopelandic". It's like gibberish that sounds good when put over music.
Iv never had privilege to see these live but even just the videos and cd's make me feel all emotional and stuff and I consider myself quite unemotional normally. Couple people I know have seen these live and said they just stand and stare in amazement, would love to see them live one day
I remember freshmen year of college one night I was blasting this song while stoned and I was hanging upside down out my window staring at the stars and during the final part I swear the building turned into a rocketship and I was blasting off towards those stars.
No worries. I heard in an interview with Jonsi that Sigur Ros will be back with another album sometime in 2011. The only problem there is the wait....
look at his face his literlarly pooring his heart and soul out in this song.. i know some icelandic but not enough to know exactly what his saying. but u dont have to know what there saying to know what its about. sigur ros works like that and i love them for it
this was the very best live performance i've ever FELT. cause that's what happened, their soundwaves communicate directly with your soul... hard to try not to cry. I never felt this connected with everything like during their set. Awesome
Amazing song, amazing performance, amazing band! This song is so unique! May it interest some of you to know that sometimes Jonsi performs this song with a second bass guitar? 2 Basses at the same time provides a richer sound at the beginning. Try watching that performance.
I've visited Lowlands almost every year. This must have been the best performance of all those years. Goosebumps all over. Teardrops too, sometimes. Most shivering moment: when the brasstards came on stage during Sé Lest.
Only the first Lowlands-gig of Arcade Fire came close to this experience.
Yo tambien lo tengo :) y si, es realmente bueno. Es como un sueño: delicado, harmonicamente caotico y lleno de sonidos oniricos. Suelo escucharlo en las noches cuando nieva.
I will never ever ever ever ever forget this preformance. I remember standing there and not being capable of moving because I was astounded by so much beauty... And when I finally did look around me, I saw everybody doing the exact same thing. Tear-filled eyes, a very big bunch of extremely happy people.
It's extraordinary that music can do this.
When I think back to this moment, I sigh and feel that intense happy feeling all over again.
@vishstick I was there as well, and I totally agree. I have been crying for an hour, during, and afterwards the performance. It was pure magic. A lot of people around me did the same, even the toughest guys....
The best concert I ever witnessed. People even started crying because of the music. You could hear a worm crawling over the floor between songs. Absolutely AMAZING.
Goosebumps time....their music touches the soul. The latter part of the album version provides us with the ultimate wall of sound! Jonti et al....please do Bestival next year. The beautiful Isle of Wight will be the perfect setting for your beautiful music....
I was at it and it the worst gig I have had the misfortune of attending,,,sound terrible, lots stupid drugged up people just smiling and saying isn't this special
@dot44loveletter : I don't know why you got so many thumbs ups, but clearly a man who compares music to drugs is mentally retarded. What you're saying is that drugs is the next best thing to Sigur Ros. Drugs is never good. end of. You have at least 55 fellow retards. Good job
@pishabness Music and drugs both effect the brain. I am not saying their effects are the same - few studies exist analyzing the brain and music - but there is a possibility that both produce similar and perhaps overlapping effects. While drugs are not/rarely beneficial when used recreationally, there exists a reason why they are used: the user finds pleasure in their effects on their brain. When you listen to music, you also feel pleasure. Therefore they can be compared. Forebear your insults.
What an amazing experience was this performance. I couldn't grasp what I heard, saw & felt. I knew their music from cd's and I knew it was special. But live...absolutely stunning.
Playing a guitar with a bow is so epic. :)
