I've spent like the past hour looking at atheist videos and this is the first one that was able to simply state an atheists beliefs without having to repeatedly insult Christians at the same time. First time I have seen an atheist and maturity used in the same video.

Since the atheist is not making a positive claim of existence, the burden of proof falls on the believer, not the atheist. Atheists dont need to prove there is no god. They just need to prove that the believers evidence is true or false. THAT is the TRUTH.
@SkateChannel13 if you had watched the video, you would have heard me explain that an atheist doesn't have to know if there is a god or not. The question of god is one of belief, not knowledge. That is why I am an atheist/agnostic. It means I have no belief in a god because one has never been proven to exist. I don't rule out the possibility, but so far, no evidence of one exists. I can make the claim that certain gods don't exist because of their impossibility.
What I find interesting from the Christian outlook on atheist is that in a way, I think a lot of them (the hard core "Everything in the bible is god's word and you're all EVIL!!" "BURN IN THE LAKE OF FIRE RAWR!" ones) is that it's as if they don't even know what atheism actually is. Because of their own reasons to make them as hard core (upbringing, intelligence, mental disorder or whatever). It's as if there's NO seperation between believing in a different god and believing in no god at all.

I'll explain it for you. An atheist is what you get if you live your life normally without worrying about the afterlife. No more church on sundays. But that other stuff you do, hunting, working, laughing, etc.. thats all still ok. Atheist is life without mention of god or tribute to god. So atheism is... life without an effort to find a better life after your own.

I'm not sure that the definition for strong atheism is right. I think strong atheism is a positive claim for the non-existence of God but doesn't denote absolute certainty. But I don't especially like the distinction anyway.

Absolutely. Consideration should be given to the possibility of it being correct. I am an atheist agnostic. I don't know that there are no gods, I believe in none and the chance that they exist is low, fairy low. I keep an open mind but carry on as if gods do not exist. I am not certain of anything but I make working assumptions in order to get through my life. There is no practical difference between your position and mine. I assume you would change your mind if there really was evidence.

A "hard" atheist is someone who flatly denies the existence of any divine being (God does not exist). A "soft" athiest expresses disbelief in divinity (I don't believe God exists). An agnostic expresses uncertainty on the situation in general.

Ancient astronaut theory is what proves god (and really all deity religions) to be misinterpretations of advanced beings visiting earth in the distant past. Call me crazy, but i'll say the same to you if you think Earth is the only planet that has intelligent (LOL Humans intelligent, right) life on it.

I hate people who claim to be agnostics (or doubters) moreso than I hate theists.
Permanent agnostics are fence-sitters and intellectual cowards. They fail to recognize that their doubt makes them an atheist.
But temporary agnosticism is a reasonable position. But the fact of the matter remains, it's their doubt that makes them an atheist. They just don't want to admit they're an atheist. They would rather perch on the fence and claim superiority. This makes me want to vomit.

That is why I am an atheist/agnostic. It means I have no belief in a god because one has never been proven to exist. I don't rule out the possibility, but so far, no evidence of one exists. I can make the claim that certain gods don't exist because of their impossibility.

What I find interesting from the Christian outlook on atheist is that in a way, I think a lot of them (the hard core "Everything in the bible is god's word and you're all EVIL!!" "BURN IN THE LAKE OF FIRE RAWR!" ones) is that it's as if they don't even know what atheism actually is. Because of their own reasons to make them as hard core (upbringing, intelligence, mental disorder or whatever). It's as if there's NO seperation between believing in a different god and believing in no god at all.

I know people don't like to think about this. But the church of Satan basically has the same belief. The Anton Lavay people claim to be atheists or at least extreme atheists. So that is why people mix the two. Satanists claim the idea too, so it sounds like an interanl quarrel on the matter to me between the groups. I've always seen strong atheism a the type which beliefs there is sufficient or at least some positive evidence against the existence of God. Weak atheism on the other hand holds no such evidence, but simply dismisses the mostly pathetic excuses for proof of the theistic claims. I don't know whether aliens exist or not, as I haven't met any or seen concrete evidence I can't say I know they exist and I can't say I know they don't exist. I am an agnostic as regards to aliens. The name of a school of thought deserves a capital letter only if it is based on a proper noun (the name or courtesy title of a person, or a place) or if it is a religion. Atheism doesn't qualify any more than stoicism or modernism, although Pythonism and Marxism do.
Nobody can have proof of the non-existence of gods, it's an impossibility, strong atheism is dogmatism by definition. There's nothing weak about remaining open to the possibility of new evidence. Faith kills. Abandon it.

I understand that it is very easy to form a wrong impression of somebody by reading a single short reply. Sometimes however somebody who is brilliantly perceptive manages to hit the nail on the head first time. I marked you down as somebody who likes the sound of STRONG atheist because he likes to be thought of as a man, not a weak pussy. That was a trap I fell into for many years. Then I rationalized what I actually believe and how little I know. Are you a pig-headed atheist? I'm not.

Then how can you say that you KNOW that there are no gods? Science has not proved that. It will probably never be able to do that, not because science is lacking but because gods are defined in such a greasy way that they cannot ever be proved not to exist. Don't be swayed by the sound of the phrase, strong atheist means dogmatic, non-rational, pig-headed faith based atheist. Feel free (as I do) to strongly assert, defend, and propound your beliefs but don't mistake belief for knowledge.

Science doesn't have to prove that gods don't exist. That there are no gods is the default position because the existence of gods has not been proven. That there are gods is a positive claim. Positive claims require proof.
For this reason alone I know that there are no gods (existence unproven) in the same way that I know that evolution (proven) is fact.

You seem to be peddling the wishy washy "I'm not sure" view of agnosticism which I regard as fence sitting.

Does science KNOW that aliens don't exist? Of course not. The rational approach is open-minded agnosticism. Always. In every circumstance. All beliefs and theories are provisional. Religious people think capital letters and punctuation count as argument, you seem very, what's the word, oh yeah, dogmatic, about your atheism.
There's nothing wishy-washy about being strong enough to admit the possibility of new evidence revealing error in one's beliefs. If the evidence changes so will my mind.

Absolutely. Consideration should be given to the possibility of it being correct. I am an atheist agnostic. I don't know that there are no gods, I believe in none and the chance that they exist is low, fairy low. I keep an open mind but carry on as if gods do not exist. I am not certain of anything but I make working assumptions in order to get through my life. There is no practical difference between your position and mine. I assume you would change your mind if there really was evidence.

Agnostics, they believe you can't know either way so reserve their judgement. Though, I think if they were to really examine their own thoughts closely they would know what they believed.
You can't prove/disprove the tooth fairy, yet it seems stupid to reserve your judgement, so why make an exception for this imaginary god?

Reserving judgment on questions that have not been conclusively answered is the default position in logic and science.
There is much about the universe that we don't know about at this time. Nobody knows how large the universe is, nor do we know where it all came from.
Historically, there have been many respectable scientists and philosophers who've described themselves as agnostics. Are you calling them stupid?

This is more for the benefit of people who might take you seriously, rather than for you. Feel free to ignore it.
A "hard" atheist is someone who flatly denies the existence of any divine being (God does not exist). A "soft" athiest expresses disbelief in divinity (I don't believe God exists). An agnostic expresses uncertainty on the situation in general.
I didn't bother watching homeboys' video all the way through, but I strikes me as the sort who won't get roped into semantics arguing.

@fatman295 your wrong. an athest dont belive. you say that we belive there is no god, but there is no belief involved. there is a big difference between. "I don't belive there is a god" an "I belive there is no god." one requires belief, the other doesn't.

This is the perfect definition of atheist.
The prefix 'a-' means 'non' or 'without'
'Theist' means believer in a God or Gods.
Thus, atheist means 'without belief in God.'
Not all of us are 100% certain, but none of us believe in God.
