  • Warren..keep dropping that knowledge, Bro'!

  • Awesome! I love the screaming lead in this song.... Great job!

  • is that Paul Gilbert?

  • Awesome :)

  • Bro, I am finialy finding to these Ernie - you tubes. I have looked in the past and couldn't find anything. Your got maybe a few years on me age wise, and I just started serious lead last year, so thanks a mil for these Ernie "lessons". No, I don't say this stuff is basic. ;)

  • dammit man you make it look so easy! XD!

  • Play your playing man so hot and soulful. You know what u doing. What your background on how you learned to play guitar. What you doing now.

  • It's a stone groove my man, wish you were in Jersey so I can lay down some bass. awesome lead too, Thanks.

  • Wow, awesome. Warren rocks.

  • very very good sir

  • awesome

  • This guy is so awesome.

  • That was awesome! Thanks for breaking it down for me, one of my favorite songs of all time! Isleys RULE!

  • Thank you so much for these videos - warren is one of the best things on youtube - hoping to see more videos from him!

  • Bad assed brother, great lesson, laying down some Isley Brothers, nice solo as well congrats. Keep playing my brother

  • This shit iz hypnotizin!

  • love the rifting brother

  • Warren breaks it down so smooth & sweet. This is such a simple song for most experienced players. It also makes a great open-mic jam-session song if you have a fairly decent complement of musicians. You can trade-off riffs with multiple guitarists, and bass players love it for its dynamic groove. Whether performer or spectator, everybody loves old-school! -EB :)

  • you've got soulllll brothaaa

  • nice one warren , you know that every day during the 60s and 70s , this guy turned on the radio , liked a tune , picked up the guitar , go missing for a hour or so , then returned to his friends and say, hey check this out!

You are an inspiration to any up and coming , young or old guitarist . WARREN YOUR THE MAN!

  • sounds like he's using a phase 90 pedal, could be a mxr.

  • Excellent!! This song is better than 97% of all the rythym & soul music out there today.

Old school is cool enough for me!

  • the magic happens on the pinky finger i see..what's that called when you change the pitch like that?

  • He's absolutely amazing! I could sit here and listen to him play all day long. Wow. =)

  • AWESOME!!!! I love breakdowns like this. We used to do this when I was growing up in Memphis "back in the day". We were astounded at the creativity of the artists from that beautiful, bygone era of great musicians , songwriters, and performers. Thanks for posting!!!!

  • someone get that guy this guy signed with a record label!

  • dudes a beast!!!!

  • He's pretty good!!!

  • Sounds like a phaser or phaser/flange combination. This guy is my hero.

  • Warren can really chop it up on the guitar! I'm gonna use this video as a reference point. My bro wants me to learn this song on the 6 strings and Warren does well in explaing the verse chords and even says the name of scale for the solo. Pretty epic.

  • OLD SCHOOL GUITAR PLAYER! Well cool, he's the best. Respect bro. Jim Synchronise Music, London.

  • One more guitar request The Whispers "and the beat goes on" I hope you guys have a chance to present the breakdown.

  • Awesome. Please break down more songs. GQ (disco nights) for example.

    Keep doing your thing!

  • Great job, Warren. Such a simple groove, and so easy to layer lead soloing over. Thanks so much for sharing this with us!

  • Where is Warren located? Does he play out professionally? I remember guys like him when I was growing around Austin, Tx they just picked up every thang they heard but never had a record out but all guitar players knew who they were. Love it!!

  • man thats a lead guitar dumby

  • Why do I have to be a dumby? What's a friggin dumby anyways? You're an ass. Thanks for the correction.

  • Its ashame all the big rock and roll bands take all the credit for what guys like warren have been doing for years.

No gimmicks, no bs, just pure emotion in these vids.

I think that instead of the fame and the fortune I would rather just sit in a basement and jam out with whoever wants to play for the rest of my life. Id be content with that.

  • I sure wouldnt say this was the easiest Isley tune. Its sure one of the best. I cant forget Earnie playing the lead to this on Don Kirshners. Awsome, endless sustain.

  • that was soo nice..i think i wanna play da guitar now :)

  • Cheers for this buddy, first song I've learnt from the Tube.

  • You gotta love these chops. Thanks for posting. I have been playing wrong till now. Nothing simple about this song trust me. I love those minor chords.................

  • Man that's great stuff! I have been playing guitar since age 13 and really appreciate this guitarist taking the time to disect and share his knowledge of these songs while enduring the arm chair quarter backing of many...

Thanks so much and keep the free lessons comming!:p

  • Funky brothas play on, you da best!

  • Great analysis of the chord structure of the song.

On the lead, you played the pentatonic scale, but didn't even BEGIN to touch the true breadth of Ernie Isley's soloing.

Still, I enjoyed the video ... keep 'em comin' :)

  • You gotta love older guitarists that take time to show you things and damn they rule!

  • man this is great! such a tight song, im new to playin guitar so i jus wanted to know if anyone knew on what fret do you do the h/o,p/o on the chords cm7 and fm7? thanks

  • ERNIE ISLEY IN '08!!! That;'s right, I said it. :-D

  • Damn, this is pretty cool. I think its Ernie isley himself on guitar. Little solo at the end is the best!

  • I finally nailed it. Thanks again!! :)

  • very nice, i could not find the chords anywhere. thanks, i picked it up pretty quick. awesome job!!!

  • thanks man i really apreciate it and that guy on the guitar man he is really good i wish i was as lucky as u to know a guy like that

  • respect man

  • Wonderful! Thanks!! I've been hooked on this song since I first heard it many years ago. This will be my next lesson for awhile.

  • Sweet man! What effects is he using if any or is that just the valveking's sound? Thanks.

  • check my comments, i posted the setup in there. peace

  • Big Ups Warren...definitely top notch.

  • From 0:12 to 0:21 - pure heaven for my ears. :)

  • Warren, u da man! Ernie would give u props for that one.

  • Man! You are awesome! I have only met a few guitarist that could play the Isley Brothers and they were very good - just like you!

Is there anyway I can get some video lessons from you? All I can say keep playin' and three thumbs up!!!

  • Hey, I thought these were video lessons? haha!

I should get a website to put lessons up. Maybe make some small change for strings and pedals etc. in the process.

  • How did you learn did you take lessons, or learn on your own. Did you start at 5 years old or 29Yr old. Your style is so smooth, how can I get my playing that smooth.

  • You need to breqak down the brothers doobie some time soon. Keep Forgetting or Long train running. Plz do Keep Forgettting.

  • Very good touch. Some people shred, some people have soul in there finger tips. I like your style

  • Hey PLUMBdogg you a sho nuff happenin thang dood....thanx fo the tips and stuff.

  • hey bruh, what you're doing is incredible. will you be doing "footsteps in the dark in the near furure?

  • warren u the shit dogg

  • You are the best man, and you talk about it like it aint nothing, Wow. What strings are you taping with your pinky to get that small change to your notes.

  • wow that was good man!

  • Thanks to Warren for doing this one. He sounds great, sings great, and does a beautiful job with that rhythm. I will be practicing!

  • Much appreciated!!!

  • Very good work PLUMBdogg thank you dont hear this kinda stuff anymore. The stuff they have out now is crap so really there's no need in listening to it unless it's Hendrix or Eric Clapton old music. If im driving I have to have Tom Sawyer by Rush.

  • damn, this is one of the most underrated solos of all time. what effects are warren using?

  • boss me-50 using square wave fuzz and some phaser

  • Right on. Thanks for responding to this as I was going to ask the same thing.

I'm about 4 months into learning the guitar and Ernie Isley was one of the a small group of guitar players that inspired me to pick up the instrument at the age of 31.

Ultimately, I'd like to be a member of a community that is trying to bring this kind of sound back to the forefront. At the very least, remind people of the sound...

  • @PLUMBdogg Have you ever thought about adding these songs to a tab site like ultimate guitar?

Would love to have it...Want to play this very badly lol

  • brillllllllllll

  • Shit ol Ernie be playing his rhythm riff using Cmin7 on the 3rd but you play it betta

fuk ol Ernie cause now u da mo-fo man please sho us some mo cause dis shit is good ma man and I give this this 5 mo fo Starz!

  • yeah ernie works to hard to play that from the third fret, it's the same chord but quicker and easier access. big ups to you on catching that, it was brought up before we started recording.

  • But it actually sounds a tad bit different playing it from the third fret, even though it is technically the same chord.

  • so which one do you prefer then? the only benefit i see is if you're gonna SLIDE up to the next chord and keep the slide audible.

  • but ernie still tha man!

  • ya Ernie the man has been fo 50 year now but now Warren the better man now cause he come here and show us the goods and I prefer his smack on Cmin7 cause the available finger work more layed down and out that shit is good.

We want to see Warren do some mo!

  • that was tha MUTHAFUCCIN LICC major big upz brah...REO O.G. SHIT

  • Thank you nobody plays old school.

  • Thanks , i enjoy you very much.

No one ever showed me so simple how to play who's that lady...your great...
