Sometimes redneck repair could be good.. BUT.. this guy is way to redneck.. he does not know a shit about what hes doing, in this vid the fretboard will be a totaly mess before all frets are in place...
Ive watched a few of his videos and while he seems to know his sh1te, he is rough as all fukc. Guitars are delicate things to work on and require delicate hands and eye for detail. This guy appeared to work in an abattoir before he took to "working" on guitars. Dumbfounded how this guys makes a living off guitar work.
@Generaleenutts listen to wat he says moron he said in his workshop he has the proper tools he just showing how to put the fret it if u listened properly u would know why he was doing it this way
I wuldnt give my guitar to this guy... his metal thingy got slipped 2 times while he pressed just one fret... i think this neck will look like one big mess with like... 50 dents on fingerboard side and few on back side... i would use one term from call of duty... NOOOOOOB
trying to clamp a vice grip tool down on a flat piece of metal standing on it's side (fret radius tool) isn't a very smart idea IMO.. that's a really good way to gouge yourself or chip the fretboard.. I think you would have better luck laying it flat on the wider side and then pressing down, common sense there....
this is bad... this is really bad. hey buddy... put that brass radius insert, buy the rest of the f*kin' stewmac fret press setup, put it in your drill press - epic win.
I make guitars and would NEVER attempt this... I either hammer them or press them the right way... not with some god awful vice grip and "another person helping me when i'm at the workshop"... this is such bullsit
@MrGuitarDavid , yeah, I guess we should chill out indeed, LOL ...
I can't help coming back to this video, it really is the funniest thing I have ever seen on Youtube.
After half a dozen attempts he finally manages to get the tang in the slot, then holds it up proudly for the camera, and the ends of the fret are sticking up a quarter of an inch at each end.
If you put up a video on Youtube showing how to do something, you should at least have some idea of the correct way to go about it.
This guy is absolutely clueless, but one thing in his favor is that the comedy value is excellent, same with all the other Expertvillage guitar videos.
The others are all funny, but I think this one is the best yet, a slapstick classic, right up there with the best of Chaplin and Keaton.
How about to buy a Fretpress.. sad to use this redneck method if u are running a workshop.. check out the fret tools u can buy on the internet so maby u dont have to use those redneck methods to repair a guitar.
throw them vice craps away and use a plastic hammer frets are not that hard to install a slite tape with a hammer with a flat block of wood atop the fret and its in.
Once you master the fumbling, then you can work on taking out all the dents from the brass radius attachment. The problem of course is that you have fretted your thumb into the fretboard, so you have to first master unfretting your thumb and then move onto the dent removal process.
This is painful to watch. Everything is wrong. 1) Attach the board to the neck first. 2) put the neck on a sandbag or something that will absorb the blows. 3) HAMMER the frets in.
If you're going to use some kind of press, it's probably a good idea to attach the little "radius device" to the press instead of trying to steady it with your hand. ;)
The concept is good, but I will take the radius piece and hold with a block of wood with at groove sliced in to it, then I can apply mass pressure evenly without the thing slipping off; that should minimize leveling issues.
2:02 thats the best fretboard ive seen in my life !
