Looks like maybe Maru's claws are kept trimmed, or maybe he just doesn't use them aggressively. :)

Both mine have claws and I'm having to teach one the word "gentile" so he knows to keep his claws in. If I can't teach him that, no more "crane hand game" for him. :(
